  • Hey, why was the film all red?

  • Buddy, you must be a millionaire owning all that equipment. I'm sure a 16mm projector (Bell and Howell, Singer, Eiki, Kodak) would cost around 600-800 american dollars. A 35/70mm projector with DTS sound, I'd say around 200-300 thousand american dollars. I'd just settle with a PS3 and 40" LCD TV. They cost around 1500 american dollars.

  • @Rlotpir1972 You honestly think a 35/70mm projector costs $200K? You're orders of magnitude off, especially with the fact that theaters are going digital all the time.

  • I was fortunate to see "My Fair Lady","Cleopatra","Karthum" and some other movies of 70 MM Multi track (6 I believe) in 1970s at Saphire an Unique 70MM Theater.Since the projectionist was a friend of my brother , I could go to the room and saw the projector(s!)

We miss them nowand really sorry

  • How much does a film cost on 35mm, or even 70mm

Or do you just rent the films.

  • Totally fantastic - sadly I only have room for a digital rig these days - also 'Phillips fed', but not quite the same!

  • Hey can anybody tell me if kodak still makes 65mm/70mm film with the magnetic stripe 6 track? Or is that obsolete?

  • OUTSTANDING... SIMPLY "OUTSTANDING"!!

YOU ARE TRULY A MOVIE MAN!

  • I worked for years on a pair of these beasts, nearly everything we ran was in 70mm mainly road show stuff. They certainly don't make projectors like these any more, they weigh a ton. The DP75 which followed is a lightweight by comparison. Nice set up, you've obviously got too much money ! LOL.

  • Superb setup Ben. Id love to come and check this out for myself sometime. :)

  • What a great projector and sound system. I have 2 Century's 70/35mm in my home theatre but hardly use them because of trying to find movies. I only have the old mag sound set up. Your system is wonderful and must have cost a fortune. Thanks for the post. What size is your home theatre. Mine seats 20 and just installed a gold curtain and masking in front of my screen like the old days.

  • Thanks for your kind comments, the setup was built up over a few years and the seating I have is about 6 and the Room is about 8ft x 14ft.

  • Hey, I know that DTS player. ;) Weird to see something that used to be in my home on the other side of the big "pond". How is it working out for you?

You have a great set-up there. Very nice!

  • @joshjens

It works fine thanks, although sometimes it fails to Boot up correctly.

Thanks for your comments nad glad your enjoyed the Video.

  • Hi, Ben

So nice to see Your fine set-up - and the original (white light) soundhead.

I miss both that and the spool boxes on mine.... -and the need of changing

to 70mm...! ( -the latter taking two minutes !!)

This august, my two DP's have been on duty for 50 years - at my place for 36 with 3 show average per day. I hate to think about digital killing these two very dear children of mine - or at least putting them out of work, and I'm in no hurry !!

All the best from Malling, Denmark !

  • @biografmand

    Hi,

Thanks for your kind comments, we try to keep the DP70 Flag flying over here in the UK as well

  • Questions:1- Is the DTS reader mounted where the 35mm mag cluster was mounted at? 2- Is there a beam spreader in front of that ORC 1000 lamphouse that you mount when doing 70mm presentations? True, "JJ's" were easier to do a switchout, but doing one in a Simplex XL35/70mm unit requires the manual water jacket trap changeout with redoing the coolant hoses. Good luck

  • Nice machine, but the JJ's are SO much easier to change from 35mm to 70mm...literally a gate swap and intermittent show swap...flip the rollers over and you're done. JJ wins for me.

  • I've been told those projectors are extremely heavy. How did you manage to get a DP70 in your house? Somone mentioned you need to rent an engine hoist just to handle the projector head.

  • Amazing video. I think I saw some shots of you at the BFCC with a Westar. How about doing a similar film for that projector as well? That DP70 is really nice.
