Hmmm... being a lifelong fan of Speed Racer and anime in general I'm going to have to give credit where it's due. While I did not like the movie itself for a number of reasons I did honestly enjoy the music (this song in particular) and I did like the technicolor feel to it from an artistic standpoint. Those are two areas I think they got it right; otherwise, meh, I really hope someone tries again in the future to adapt Speed Racer. Sorry guys. I really really wanted to like movie.

I love this movie because when I am watching it, it feels like I am watching an episode of the show, which is how an adapation should be. It captures the essence of the show very well.
The movie captured that "technicolour-feel" of all the cartoons from my childhood. The critics panned the film because it was all cgi-ed and over-the-top. Well, that was the Wachowski brother's intention in my opinion. They've always been fans of anime styles. A really unique film that can be re-watched over and over again.

Isaw this movie and I was really surprised. I thought it was gonna suck, but for an adaptation, this was pretty good. IMO, this movie proves that some adaptations can be good. Great movie.

The music for this movie was great! When we went to see it, there was a little girl a couple of rows behind us. When Speed crossed the finish line with all the swirling colors, she said "My eyes hurt now!"
I for one watched this show as a kid in the '70's and again in the '90's. As an artist, the producers did justice to this film. I agree that the film did not get a good rating as some movies with a lot of sex and violence. I've seen a lot of anime in it's original Japanese version. Talk about a ripoff when it is dubbed for the American audience. Let's hope there's another Speed Racer Movie.
I remmber YEARS ago they were talking about Johnny Depp as Speed in the Speed Racer movie (they wanted to make it in the 90's). This would have made money (to me) if the used Frankie Muniz at his height of fame (Malcolm in the middle). I also didn't like how they advertised it, they should have cut a deal with cartoon network to show it (the cartoon) a month or 2 before th movies release. The trailers were awful.
A sequel was planned for this movie, but it was canceled because the movie was a box office flop. Its too bad, since this was a great adaptation and a great movie.
This was a brilliant made movie. The Wachowski Brothers were really, REALLY smart for creating the anime, graphical type scenes for the races and the story was perfection. The whole Racer X to being the brother of Speed (just like the comics and the cartoon) and the Pops racing going under until Speed brought it back up. The script was perfect. The cast could of been better if they chose a different villain in my OP.

First off, this was a good movie, and a highly underrated one at that... but, that's how I see it.
Anime can't be killed, just shat on. And while America has made their share of mistakes, Japan has given us some pretty poor stuff as well... and lately, I haven't really enjoyed any of the more popular stuff, such as Bleach, Naruto...).

I'm a big speed racer fan. I haven't seen the new movie (I missed it) but I'm really digging this cool theme that they made and how it incorperates the original Japanese and American bits and blends them nicely with some new stuff. I like it!

All these comments about how it had a short run and how you missed out... true, it didn't have the play time it deserved but I saw it five times during the theatrical run (4 standard, 1 IMAX). What it really comes down to is people that wanted to see it not getting off their lazy butts and giving the film a high initial box office yield. "I wanted to see that [again]." Then you should have.
Indeed. In Australia it played for an even shorter period than in the US and I was very busy in the period but I still saw it three times. I loved it every time.
The score is just fantastic. You can tell Giachinno really did his homework when composing for this movie. It's certainly a treat for Speed Racer fans. (Bonus points for inculding snippets of the Japanese "Mach Go Go Go" Opening theme.)
For me, this is by far one of the best movies of the Summer and soon to be the most underrated flick of 2008. I was really surprised at how faithful it was to the original cartoon. Props to everyone involved with the film. It's become one of my favorites.

this isn't out in NZ yet, but wow... its like the first remake to ever do a good job of remaking the theme tune. I grew up with this show teaching me from a young age that the speeding ads are all lies and that speeding is great :P
I was raised on Speed Racer. When I saw the movie, it was like the anime had come to life and I think it's a shame that this awesome show has been so diluted by remake after remake that no one cares anymore. It's a great movie based on a great show.
I have the same felling that I was watching one of the episodes of the show and it really pissed me off when the film critics killed this liveaction anime style concept and at some point the film critics are going to get it in the mouth.
It was the film critics that started the problem and I wanted to see the film twice for the details but nope they took it out and I was really pissed off that it happened.
I think that critics who give good films like these such bad reviews are really advertising it. The reader can go to the theater to see for themselves, and they'll probably like it, regardless of what the self-proclaimed "King of Moviegoers" reviewer says.
This movie was so awesome, I can't believe so many people never even gave it a chance. I have a feeling this one will eventually reach cult classic status. It's a shame. :(
The movie was fantastic. Retained many elements. Speed drove the Mach 6 during races that were on race tracks, but he drove the Mach V on open road races.

This was the only part of the film I liked - THE CREDITS!!! (Excluding that downright obnoxious "revamped" theme by Ali whoever and some other whatevers)
The music for that film was easily the worst thing about it, the rest was great. They would have been better off just using rock songs, as a pose to that MV dreck of a composer from Prison Break.

I'm a big speed racer fan. I haven't seen the new movie (I missed it) but I'm really digging this cool theme that they made and how it incorperates the original Japanese and American bits and blends them nicely with some new stuff. I like it!

All these comments about how it had a short run and how you missed out... true, it didn't have the play time it deserved but I saw it five times during the theatrical run (4 standard, 1 IMAX). What it really comes down to is people that wanted to see it not getting off their lazy butts and giving the film a high initial box office yield. "I wanted to see that [again]." Then you should have.

Indeed. In Australia it played for an even shorter period than in the US and I was very busy in the period but I still saw it three times. I loved it every time.

The score is just fantastic. You can tell Giachinno really did his homework when composing for this movie. It's certainly a treat for Speed Racer fans. (Bonus points for inculding snippets of the Japanese "Mach Go Go Go" Opening theme.)

For me, this is by far one of the best movies of the Summer and soon to be the most underrated flick of 2008. I was really surprised at how faithful it was to the original cartoon. Props to everyone involved with the film. It's become one of my favorites.

If they had played this song as he was coming across the finish line at the end of the movie, I don't think it would have had the same effect. Good call. Does anyone else feel like they shouldn't be allowed to drive after watching this movie? Maybe it's just me, but I get so freakin' pumped.

this isn't out in NZ yet, but wow... its like the first remake to ever do a good job of remaking the theme tune. I grew up with this show teaching me from a young age that the speeding ads are all lies and that speeding is great :P

I was raised on Speed Racer. When I saw the movie, it was like the anime had come to life and I think it's a shame that this awesome show has been so diluted by remake after remake that no one cares anymore. It's a great movie based on a great show.

I think that critics who give good films like these such bad reviews are really advertising it. The reader can go to the theater to see for themselves, and they'll probably like it, regardless of what the self-proclaimed "King of Moviegoers" reviewer says.

The movie was fantastic. Retained many elements. Speed drove the Mach 6 during races that were on race tracks, but he drove the Mach V on open road races.

lolz it says mach 5 go....yet in teh movie speed drives the spawn of it, the mach 6.....there is a cartoon called speed racer the next generation that apparently shows why speed has the mach 6....he blew up teh mach 5 and speed is speed racers son so yeah

The music for that film was easily the worst thing about it, the rest was great. They would have been better off just using rock songs, as a pose to that MV dreck of a composer from Prison Break.
