  • My alltime favorite song and still holding! Have seen 3dn in concert countless times, still have posters hanging to this day, incurable fan that I am.... I have this dvd, it is totally awesome. Three Dog Night, like fine wine, only get better as time marches on!

  • Oh, I remember the day that Columbia records sent me my 1st 3dog nite album. I was at Kent State's Small Group Drom. then the next year the national guard was shooting at me on my way from class that was cancelled. See they didn't tell us students that Class was cancelled.

  • their missing one of their founding members; which one?

  • WE USED TO LAUGH @ THE WHITES ON 'AMERICAN BANDSTAND' WITH DICK CLARK - MOVING OFF BEAT SHAKING THEIR HAIR, LOL!!!....AND THE MUSIC..UGH!!!. - BUT THEN I EXPERIENCED 3 DOG NIGHT!!!! - I STOPPED LAUGHING!!!! - BADASS -I LOVE 'EM

  • THE 2ND VERSE IS PROOF THIS GUY MAY HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE 1ST WHITE MC'S

  • Over forty years later and still groovy daddy-o!

  • That's Cory! That's him being his goofy, cute self!

    And there's the smile! *sigh*

  • thanks for posting this video...this song should be played in a faster tempo like the original song

  • I just saw these guys in concert saturday they put on a good show

  • where's the guy with the beard and the long brown hair (right, middle or left?)

  • @Canaboy12 Mike Allsup is on the far left.

  • @Canaboy12 -they all have had long brown hair + beard sometime in the last 40+ yrs , so....

  • they'still got those awesome, distinctive voices! last night 's concert was a great flashback to the good old daze! It was wonderful to see so many young people there enjoying the music!

  • more ppl should like this kind of music. it's classic! LOVE IT.

  • This great Randy Newman song performed the best way by Three Dog Night

  • We saw them last Saturday in Manson, Wash.! Great show!! Hope they come back!!

  • dam good song.

  • Seeing Chuck Negron next week ... hope he does this song and Liar. I had so many 3 dog night 45's ... still have them. Last 3 dog 45 I bought was Old Fashioned Love Song ... then I think I grew out of them. Now I'm growing young again.

  • Most Awesome!

  • fantastic! Saw them last night in concert! Great as ever!

  • Saw them at the Moon Dog Coronation Ball in Cleveland 2 yrs ago.....They were awesome......Played this tune perfectly !!!

  • Elementary school & unknowingly tripping at a party was the craziest thing that would definitely change your life forever. Tripping was the best shit to learn about yourself and life in general. A positive...from someone who did and learned things otherwise would not have been explored from within. Mama told me not to come but I did anyway!

  • Classic class!! Still a favorite. And, always listen to your Mama!!

  • If you look fast at Cory Wells, he could be a stunt double for Alan Rickman! lol lol

  • sounds like Randy Newman?

  • Love them, they are wonderful!!!! I sure danced to and listened to them a lot !!

  • they still sound fabulous after all the years

  • I grew up on these guys!!! Many, many memories.. happy to see people are still being enjoyed!!!

  • Reminds of getting bent in a room full of blacklight posters and smoke, and three dog night playing in the background.

  • 10 people listened to their Momma's, and didn't go...see they had no fun :-(

  • Open up the window, sucka!

  • I think im almost choking from the great sound of this song..open up the window let me catch my breath,,what a great band,,let the show go on

  • Man! That just KICKS ASS!!!!!! Vocal JAMMIN!!!!!!!

  • ill admit they still sound good but sound different.

  • @Manuellinker1 Just a little more laid back now. I guess we all get old... if we're lucky!

  • I like when Cory smiles.

  • How could anyone NOT like this?

  • A childhood buddy LOVED these guys He had them on everytime I went over there. Thanks for the memory- I miss you, all the rest of our freinds and our Eagle scout trips. RIP Big Al ,Billy, Rich ,Mike,Tim

    Mike

  • This is an awesome performance from these guys! Have always liked this band and they should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

  • When was this? Because in a MDA telethon video from 2009 Cory aged 20 yrs from this show. Weird.

  • I great version. Better than the orginal. Old Fart listening. This may have been one of the first albums I bought with my allowance. Thanks for posting. Makes me happy. An old song can be brought back with great style and talent.

  • I great version. Better than the orginal. Old Fart listening. This may have been one of the first albums I bought with my allowance. Thanks for posting. Makes me happy. An old song can be brought back with great style and talent.

  • Great Song! But there is one thing missing! CHUCK!!!!!!!!

  • @dlandrews I agree although I guess Chuck did it to himself. A shame because they're all so integral to TDN's sound.

  • i love em

  • THREE DOG NIGHT IS STILL....STILL.......BAD ASSSSS!!!!!!

  • It was good then and still good rock today

  • Yeah, this is just bad ass. Period.

  • The fact that these guys arent in the R&R HOF is a CRIME...nominees this year included the freaking BEASTIE BOYS? Are you kidding me?

  • I'm not racist by any means, but why is it that you're classifying what they're playing as "black music"? Cuz some white boys put some soul into what they're singing? What is "black music"? I listen to all sorts of music; rap, jazz, r&b, rock, classical, etc. By no means am I knocking your comment, I just feel when we classify things, it's what separates us more. I grew up listening to George Benson, Fats Domino, 3DN, all sorts of music, never thought about the color of who I was listening to.

  • @fsu99natchampTHEY'RE I 'OBVIOUSLY' INFLUENCED BY THE BLACK SOUND!! NOT BEING DIVISIVE BY CALLING IT WHAT IT IS IN A POSITIVE MANNER. I LISTEN TO A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT MUSIC, BY DIFFERENT ARTISTS = ...NEIL SEDAKA, THE BEATLES, PAUL ANKA, CAROL KING...JOHNNY MATHIS, WHO BY THE WAY HAS A 'WHITE' SOUND', WHICH IS GREAT ALSO.. IT IS WHAT IT IS - CHILL----LUV YA!

  • @BROOKLYNBRENDA Hey girl =) I was chill, no worries! I hope you realized my comment was positive as well. When I read what you wrote on the Eli's coming video...it sounded more like your response to me here. I wasn't knockin' you...but thanks for responding and clearing it up. Much Luv =)

  • @fsu99natchamp YA KNOW YOU'RE PROBABLY RIGHT ABOUT MY RESPONDING ON THE WRONG PAGE - HAVEN'T GOTTEN IT RIGHT YET..... - ANYWAY I JUST LOVE 3 DOG NIGHT, I MEAN I AM A REAL FAN!!! - GLAD EVERYTHING IS CLEARED UP & WE'RE IN HARMONY -- MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOURS WITH LOVE AND RESPECT!!

  • @fsu99natchamp TEENA MARI - RIP...??

  • CLASSIC!

  • THEY PLAYED BLACK MUSIC SOOOOO WELL - I LUV THIS GROUP ....HOW TIME HAS PASSED -- THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT AMERICAN BAND STAND!!!!!!!!! OK??

  • Timeless. Kanye sux.

  • My ex-wife mama told me not 2 marry her daughter cause she was too immature. DAMN! I should have listened. LOL

  • Better than ever

  • Mama told him that a lonnngggg time ago.

  • Two Dog Night sounds amazing.....

Corey turned 67?? Holy Cow!!! His voice is still killer !!!

It's a shame they can't resolve their differeces with Chuck....reminds me of the riff between Journey and Steve Perry......

I will look forward to seeing this band when they come around my area...

  • Ha estado bien, pero no es lo mismo sin Chuck!!

  • love this song!!! haven't heard it in years. He still sounds the same.voice is solid!! GO Three Dog!!

  • my momma told me not to and also said,"wait till your daddy finds out" then I went to Nam, and all was forgiven,, I think?

  • I LOVE this version

  • That was when free was free.

  • WOW!

  • Classic!! I feel 12 again!!!

  • His voice is still like it was 40 yrs ago, but oh, the effing facelifts, why, WHY?!??!

  • @ricadrew - NO FACELIFTS. Why did you start that silly rumor for ? I sat front row , met and shook his hand after show a couple months ago OCT 2011 , he looked natural and actually aged big time :(.... what facelifts you're talking about???

Both Cory and Danny still sound great and what a great show they put on !

  • @teegaro Are you kidding me? Just look at him. Besides the fact he's admitted it.

The others (danny & chuck (and chuck who was the best of the dogs by far) ) may have to, i don't know, i doubt it, but cory looks horrible!!

  • @ricadrew - No kidding here. I was staring at him for 2 hours concert- sitting at the front table right next to stage , shook hand & told him how GREAT he was = Cory looked his age : 69yrs -NO FACELIFTS !!!

    Stop spreading vicious rumor .

BTW Chuck does look young for his age , especially what he'd been through , but yet drugs claimed his voice . Chuck sounds like ....now :( ! w/ a garrage back up band =embarassing.

  • @ricadrew When and where has he admitted it?

  • @behdoc its not dragging its grooving. they have a lot more soul in this than in the origional recording.

  • Just saw them tongiht at the FRAZEin Kettering Ohio...They brought the house down! GREAT SHOW!!

  • Goddam I love this song

  • Tempo is slowed down from the original recording; not due to his age.

As I tend to favor originals, I didn't like the first few bars, but this version is hot,

This slower pace is great for slipping in some "ad-libs" or "what-you-may-call-its"

It's clear that you can't beat age and experience for this kind of creativity..

    It's like fine wine!

  • cory wit da attitude

  • caryo...todavia siguen siendo muy buenos..

  • Yes! Where in the world is a girl by the name of Joanne

  • 3 Dog and Randy Newman.....Live Forever!!!!!!

  • One of the greatest songs by one of the greatest bands of that era.

    Nothing Better! Sir David

  • Why did they slow the tempo down? It's dragging!

  • corey was always the best singer of this band and many bands

  • GREAT SONG

  • exceo

llent song by threee dog night

  • Chuck is missing

  • I'm 22 years old and i love this kind of music

  • @Theratinthehouse Good for you I am glad my music might stay alive when i am gone. I hope the GAGA's & Bebbers of the world dont destroy it but i doubt it.

  • @Theratinthehouse and when your 52 you'll still love it, believe me I know!

  • @Theratinthehouse I'm 52 years old and loved this song then and I love it now!

  • That's Cory Wells now? What happened? He used to have the whole fun 'Joe-Cocker' vibe in the 70's videos, now he looks like Severus Snape from Harry Potter.

  • @z1ny good comment...God knows what happened...a bad relationship or just 35 or 40 years of ups and downs...jeez! Well here's to faith in restoration to retrieve what we think has vanished!!

  • @Andremedia some people don't have to be fucked for twenty years. AS a huge Fan back in the late 60's, there's very few of us boomers who have much sympathy, less respect...for Negron.

  • @3Rubee OK, but we were referring to Cory Wells - the transformation of looks and character is particularly unusual.

  • @z1ny

    lol - That's effing funny...Dude, he's like 70, cut him a break!

  • the intro was pretty trippy.

  • It certainly does NOT suck!!

  • FYI...Floyd Sneed is playing with Chucks Band now. Chuck has a better band then these two...Chuck also puts on a more energetic show.j

I like 3 Dog Night more now then I did back in the 70's.

  • po box brodyduran merry christmas scooby

  • Makes ya wanna kick a Harley, and play with rice paper.

  • Love it!

    Thank you!

  • Oh, this is *The* Three Dog Night?

Thank you echoNpapa for posting the video.

  • Chuck?

  • Nice, it's such a great performance, and to think, at one point in time, they were considered "pop," lol. All the music back then used to be so good!

  • this is a pop song.

  • I was talking about how great even "pop" music was back then. If somebody came up with this nowadays, it would probably be "indie" or something. It's too good for "pop," lol.

  • you are stupid to say that.....GET A LIFE

  • ungawa44 WOW can't wait till you come to central PA. i will be their

  • THREE DOG NIGHT you guys have some mighty Soulful rich-Spirited harmonizing on you! Beautiful voices, music & strong personalities. Iconic legendary band to the core you are: I love you guys & your Classic songs. Thanks for the wonderful "amazing" Concert at the Cal Expo State Fair just this past Sept. 4th, 2009 & I hope Danny is better now, he was under the weather at the time but he put on the flames at this Concert gathering "all" of you did! So, thanks Danny, Cory, Michael & Jimmy.

  • seen floyd in 79 at JFK philly wow didnt recover since

  • I'm going to see them tomorrow night. . didn't get great seats but at least will get to hear them. . I hope they can still belt it out like this. ..sure love 'em

  • Fantastic. Love the big band and arrangement....that's what we call a "fat" sound :)

  • true Floyd brought in that funky feel the new drummer keeps clean crisp time but you need that ole funky feel...

  • That was just me reminiscing, this drummer is more than adequate.

  • true

he is a great drummer. plays very crisp with excellent time.

  • Yes, these guys don't have to settle for a mediocre drummer. When i played with Floyd i never saw him try to get fancy, a pocket player all the way. I still have it on VHS somewhere!

  • Wow you jammed with Floyd?

  • Yes, Floyd and Joe Shermi the bass player, they came together several times to our jam session in Riverside California. Floyd was a big gentle quiet guy. Joe stood around with me and told me a few stories about them in their heyday, it was a privelege!

  • What instrument did you play with them? Thats good to hear that Floyd "stayed home" so many drummers like to hot dog to the point of messing up a song. I like a lot of drum fills but not continuous ones.

  • I play blues harp, type in ( corinneiscool), on YouTube, go to the second page to the one that says "my dad playing The Sky Is Crying with Teresa Russell", the video quality is poor but you can hear us. Teresa is a phenomenal guitar player/singer, as a matter of fact i introduced her to Floyd and they played together for awhile.

  • you guys sounded great! good jammin

Ive been drumming since like 83 I play in our church band and used to jam with my two bros and other various bands you can see some of my vids under my name but you guys sound really pro

  • Thanks, my chops were a bit rusty but it's always a priveledge to play with Terese, and there is no greater honor than to play for God ( church ). I will check out your music.

  • Spelling correction: Joe Schermie

  • Not the same without Floyd Sneed

  • please gr8 is great we all need to c them again as soon as possible we all r agin fast and saying good bye too 2 many friends

  • You are right. Listen, i had the great pleasure of playing blues harp at a weekly jam session with Joe Shermi ( bass ) and Floyd Sneed ( drummer ) at a place called Lake Alice in Riverside California in 1995 Two legitimately nice guys. God rest your soul Joe!

  • saw them last night. great performance! they do however miss chuck's vocals. whatever happened? feud? still w/o chuck, they were worth it baby!

  • Great job ... but NOT the same without CHUCK ...

  • MAMA TOLD ME NOT TO COME by 3 dog night rules

  • Seen Chuck tonight. He was awesome. Sang all the three dog night tunes to a tee!!

  • Not the same without Chuck! That's why it was so good back then,3dog night not 2 dog night. But yet very well done!!

  • Slick, cool and simply a nicely produced rendition of a 70's classic. Don't think Paul McCartney could do his Wings stuff as well as "3 Pooch Nocturne". Thanks heaps for posting this.

  • After Randy Cutlip "exposed" the bands "Satan Worship" he went on to be a bible thumping, anti rock n roll preacher.

His keyboards will not be missed by me. This was a great show!

  • GREAT..... How about another 20 years

  • Hey, what happened between these guys anyway??

  • Comment removed

  • Drummer is Pat Bautz- he's actually around late 30's in this video. Been with the band for 12 years or so...

  • Look at the drummer...what is he 19??

  • This band just keeps getting more soulfull

  • Always thought this song was about not getting a girl pregnant.

  • I seen them live in West palm beach back in the early 70's. They were great .

  • sui volti di questi simpatici vecchietti un'incredibile serenità e la consapevolezza di essere ancora GRANDISSIMI !!!!!!

  • brano migliorato negli anni... proprio come un ottimo barolo....

    BRAVISSIMI !!!

  • I love this shit! Amazing song.

  • One of my favorites lol I only seen them once in concert Sedalia, Mo around 17 years ago.★★★★★«:::S:::» «:::U:::» «:::P:::» «:::E:::» «:::R:::» ★★★★★

  • I never thought I'd say this, but I like this live version more than the original version.

  • Bang on with that comment SpinnerMC. I never liked this tune much but I like this version too. I was watching "Shambala" from the same concert, it's good as well.

  • I was just thinking the same thing, and I LOVED the original version of "Mama Told Me"

  • Eric Burdon

  • Corey Wells' voice is still great after all these years. However, he doesn't smile like he (always) use to; doesn't seem like he's having fun anymore? Tempo of this version was really slowed down from the original but still a wonderful treat! 5+ stars.

  • Not the original version...

  • Of course not!

  • Their lead guitarist lives in the same town I do, Modesto, CA

  • egg his house

  • Wow, they sound awesome and the singers voice has only gotten better.

  • sing it boys! you go!

  • LOVE this version!

  • one of the greatest bands ever. will they ever come to london?

  • corey was amazing in 1966 and he kept every bit of his talent to this date.

  • Happy 67th birthday Cory. You still sound great.

  • What is song about, and what are they saying in the chorus other thatn mama told me not to come??

  • Mama told me not to come

Mama told me not to come

That ain't the way to have fun, no

  • They're smokin' pot.

  • hey, I have the old version and that from Eric Burdon in my playlist too - I allways have to listen to other version of this song, it´s great to hear.

  • This song was composed by Randy Newman

  • He got the idea from my life.

  • Ah these boys still have it. Cory and Danny look as good as before. Glad to see Mike Allsup and "Spooner" Greenspoon still with them!

  • Not just on this song, it's them just ignoring the fact that he was with the group at all now a days.. Bring back all three is all i'm sayin then it's a super group again and not a carnival band....

  • They sure don't look like a carnival band here. They are performing with a full symphony orchestra and this show aired on PBS, I believe.

    They sound great.

  • Chuck Negron didn't sing lead on this song. How can you compare that to John Fogerty and CCR?

  • Whats keeping the original 3 dog night from playing together, each had their own vocal style that was perfect together and w/o Chuck the others are a vegas cover band al la CCR w/o Fogarty

  • Yeah,bring Chuck back!!!!
