  • Oh this is a treasure. So great to hear Horowitz play the no.1.(we constantly only hear no.'s 11 &12) Too bad he didn't record the entire set.

  • scryabin - agreed. with his coloristic resources, i wish he'd recorded far more of scriabin's pieces. imagine the worlds he could have unfolded for us? for another live horowitz rarity, search on this in my channel: horowitz in rochester nov. 1980 08 scriabin etude d-flat maj op8 no10

  • 70s ? :P

  • 4785689 - ya, that's all the information i have. got it from my first v.h. pirate cassette tape sent to me by the discographer in the plaskin biography - robert m. - in 1986. : )

  • @kasyapa yumm :P

  • This etude remembers me on Chopin etude in f major op.10 no. 8.

  • good association - i would not have thought of it, but there is that same sparkling playfulness.

  • @predoje huh? how could that be possible?

  • @MozartK365 ask your talent.

  • One of the most beautiful etudes of scriabin.

When I play this one i don't feel it that light. It is -to me- a piece written in the late romantics, so a little bit more deapth would be good.

    Anyway, that's how I feel it :)

  • one of the great things about the masters is that they admit of so many interpretations. i'm sure in other concerts, horowitz played it differently! i'd enjoy hearing your take, too. :)

  • he sure can play it in a different way, no doubt about that! :)

  • Very Scarlatti-ish

  • i never would have thought of that - but you are on to something there!

  • Wow. This has a glorious lightness .Different from Magaloff .Many little details here nd there. this man was a great MUSICIAN not just a great technician.I learn more and more when I hear him play as we all do i'm sure.Scriabin short life but every period of his life is full of treasures It is a complete world. post says he played severalmore n a concert always programmed some of his music Both he and Richter did entire lps of Scriabin prel and etudes earlier n their careers.

  • thank you for this poetic impression, true on all counts. the creation of a sound-world is what all the great composers did, and it takes a great interpreter to do the same - the interpreter has to recreate the composer's sound-world while creating his/her own!

  • This was absolutely superbly played.Indeed such free hands and a wonderful lightness.

  • A fascinating first hearing - didn't know he played this publicly. After shaky start, leads us ever on thru a too brief ride on a rainbow. Unique!

  • one of my favourite etudes:)

  • you have good taste. :) what did you think of the playing?

  • i like him very much.he has got a very good sound and free hands:) and many things he make direct on stage..thats the point:) make things on stage.."composing" the music:)so my answer is hes the master of his instrument.

  • Horowitz played this Etude in November 1980 (9 in Ann Arbor, 16 in Rochester and 30 in New Haven)with four or five other works of opus 8. Max Massei

  • i am honored to hear from you, sir. i know your work on behalf of maestro's history well.

  • For this message and the previous one, I used the account of someone else. If you want, You can contact me on the site of G. Lile (musique6piano)or on my personal email. I would be glad to corespond with you. M.M.
