  • I'll never forget this they made me watch it every week in school but i used to have bad dreams about the thin man, still makes me shudder now

  • hes a real cunt

  • i used to watch this at school too!

the kid that learnt to read from an inside out carrier bag lol

  • is that Derek Griffith's singing again? He was on everything back then.

  • i know The Boy From Space from school, i was so scared...i glad its on HD!

  • When will we find it?

    Never, ever.

    Space goes on forever.

  • The rest of the song went 'Will we find it? Never. Space goes on forever'

  • Did you know that there were two versionsof this story as they showed it twice! Once in the seventies and then again in 1981 I think because they showed the children that visit their scientist friend as grown ups!

  • i remember this at school im 34 now we've evolved quite alot since then. ha ha

  • I loved the fact that in the end... you didn't need a universal translator to communicate with aliens... just hold English sentences up in a mirror and that'll do. What are the odds??? ;-)

  • For years i had this show mixed up with SKY starring Marc Harrison! well they are both UK progs from the same era!

I jst rememeber being fascinated by the blonde Aliens, and later i went on to david Bowie as ziggy stardust!

  • this takes me bac to primary school st lukes ,we had to watch it in class

  • Lol!!!! Just sang the parts of the song that are missing at the end!!!!!

  • This was the reason for all my childhood fears,i should sue my old primary school for the damage caused lol,i mean what teacher thinks "i know what to make my seven year old children watch EVERY tuesday"

  • I remember being shown this at primary school along with Dark Towers. I understand The Boy From Space was written by Catweazle & Robin of Sherwood creator, Richard Carpenter. Understandable. This must be why I managed to remember this show after so many years.

  • I remember watching 'Look and Read' at school. The stories that I watched were 'Sky Hunter', 'Fairground', 'Dark Towers' and 'Boy from Space'. An excellent series! I didn't know Richard Carpenter wrote 'The Boy from Space' until a few years ago. Kip Carpenter is my hero. I got Catweazle, Robin of Sherwood, Ghosts of Motley Hall and Dick Turpin all on DVD. I will get 'Arthur of the Britons' later. An excellent writer.

  • Ditto here too. I also love AotB's but that wasn't Kip of course, but Terence Feely & co. Strange, because it seemed like one of the series he'd do. He was an actor back then though, and Catweazle was the first thing he wrote professionally.

  • *brushes tear from eye while recalling lost youth*

  • We were made to watch this in school when i was about 8,in 1973.Didn't mind though it was better the school work.Even though it was quite sinnaster.

  • All I can remember is that he wrote everything backwards, talked in a beep beep style and didn't like bright lights shone at him, especially when it was a mirror reflecting the Sun.

The other programme was definitely involved a perigrin falcon that eventually got stuffed by a taxidermist.

  • they made us watch this in school,, i was frightened for years,, with the blonde haired weird running pervert in the woods....

  • @brendonisthewicked

OMG they made us watch it too and I had nightmares for weeks afterwards!!!

  • fooking heck scary as hell. The thin geezer in the blue MG midget stalking the kids in the quarry gave me nightmares for weeks when i was about 7 and still does. think i'll sleep with the light on tonight!!

  • I have this on dvd if any one is interested PM me!

  • What does PM mean?

  • The music sounds very similar to the incidental score from The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy TV series.

  • haunting

one of the most memorable programmes i've ever seen on telly, and what a theme tune!

  • ?sdrawkcab etirw ot desu peep peep did.

1891 ni kcab siht rebmemer i.

the thin man freaked me out the first time i saw him. sinister looking character. then every blue MG i saw after would think the thin man was driving it hahahha.

  • derek griffiths is a childrens tv god!

  • It was originally screened in about 1972. I was there!

    All these are reconstructed repeats.

  • The theme was sung by playschool's very own Derek Griffiths! I was around 7 or 8 years old when I watched this. I thought it was very exciting and thought the tall grey man that appeared from the sandpit was a bit scary! especially when he spoke!!

  • This scared the crap out of me, this coupled with Worzel Gummidge gave me plenty of nightmares in 1987.

  • ifs it wernt not 4 theeese telly shows i wood knot be able to reed and rite proper

  • @dragonfitter I no egzaktly wot yoo meen

  • @capokhatpin its funny how our bad spelling is like a geordie accent

  • @dragonfitter loool

  • This is CLASS !!

I remember this being shown at school in 1979 when I was 7 y/o

  • The trouble with Look And Read was that the plot was interrupted CONSTANTLY by interludes regarding grammar or pronunciation or whatever, and so a story which could have been presented in an hour would be stretched out over about 6 months! I just wanted to shout at the television "GET ON WITH THE FREAKIN' STORY ALREADY!"

  • They paused the story so that children could read on and they showed the text to make children read it. Thats why they paused with the stories.

  • Get on with the freakin story already? Are you American or something?

  • No, but I fear I may have lapped up more American culture over the years than is good for me. Yikes!

  • Classic.

  • I don't remember much of this one but I remember a boy and a space ship, I wonder why they don't bring it back now there were other Look and read series as well, but it has just disappeared from the listings.

    DA

  • There was also a alien called Peep Peep who talked strangely and his evil father!

  • Yeah I to remember Peep Peep ! LOL

  • Any links to Badger Girl?

  • Ya got taste, loved Badger Girl loved the soundtrack too and saw every episode at school. Yep I was 12 years old at the time.

  • The Boy from Space was good but Dark Towers was better.. Where has all the footage from Dark Towers gone???????????????

  • This show made me cry as a kid I WANTED TO BE THE BOY FROM SPACE AAAAAAGGGGGGGRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!

  • It was repeated for years , it ran from the 70s into the late 80s. Fairground, Dark towers,Jordy racer are a few stories i remember , there were others .

  • I remembered the song ending with "Space goes on forever..." have I been imagining that for all these years!?

  • For the end credits it does.

  • Nice tune but I hated this programme because at the time it came out, I looked very much like the Boy himself, and I was mercilessly teased at primary school about it.

  • Damn this brings back memories - i remember in primary i always look forward to boy from space, the "thin man" was one dangerous dude and he freaked the hell out of me.

  • wow, did this at school. and one called perequin falcon or somit. was this look and read

  • Look and read was the best thing the BBC ever did. No fuss.

Astonishing sun faded programs about Pigeons, Golden roman jewellry and Falcons. Cool stuff.

  • Oh My God!!! I watched this when I was about 9 way back in 1973 - freaked me out then. Meep Meep was a real hero. Dan was a drip, but all the lads fancied Helen! I just wanted the MG!!

  • I followed a link on facebook which said I could watch all 10 episodes on Youtube but it said they had been removed because they violated terms of use or something?? How on earth??

  • I remember the boy from space had a message on a necklace that when read backwards sais DANGER. ha ha

  • memorys

  • Oh this is just awesome and brings back soooooooo many memories. I'm 35 now but remember this like it was yesterday...wow the boy from space....I think the one before that was about a kestrel..

  • nay, lass

it was about a peregrine falcon!

  • there was 'Skyhunter: the birdman' about falcons and 'jordy racer'- about pidgeons?

and a different program called KES, that was about a boy and kestrel...maybe thats what youre thinking of.

  • KES was a movie.. you can still get it on DVD!!!

  • KES was also shown as 6 part series , the film was split into 6 parts . The book was studied as part of GCSE english a few years back. The film is based on the book .

  • The book is a classic!!! I didn't know there was a 6 part series.. Was it the film chopped up?? Its very good, one of my childhood favorites...

  • yeah it was the same film - but it was split into 6 parts , the whole film would have been too long for a 50 minute english lesson .

  • Comment removed

  • i got a copy of the whole series on dvd, jamieharrisonatyahoodotcom, ill sort it out,

  • ive been searching for this for years,i was telling my fiancee bout it but she cant remember it,i would love a copy of this,i will pay ofcourse,thankyou..

  • Where did you get the DVD dude????

  • omg i mind this at school i freaked out as a little kid in the early 80s lol jeezz a blast from the past this is lol

  • I've being trying to find the name of a kids serial which I saw in primary school. I distinctly remember the cliffhanger ending of one episode where the boy and grandad drive off with the alien kid in the car and suddenly they find the alien's father standing there menacingly with a ray gun blocking their path. Was that "The Boy from Space?" Very creepy for a child but our school never let us see what happened in the next episode.

  • this was excellent

  • Facebook - The Boy From Space!

  • Ive looked for this for ages i can always remember watching it in primary 4 at school you had to answer questions about it and what you thought was going to happen next!!

  • Yep, its primary school in the 1980's. Ahhh, the memories.

  • Yeah we had an activity book that went with this - we also watched Dark Towers(scary!!)

  • lol yep i remember this in primary school

  • So many memories...I can visualise myself in the classroom watching this series. I really felt sorry for the spaceboy. And what a cool prog-tastic theme! They'd clearly been listening to Genesis...

  • omg!...lol.
