  • I Am Hmong but I had this food before in the refugee camp. It was so good. I wish I had someone know how to do this. DOes anyone know where I can go buy some that already made, especially in Saint Paul Minnesota. I really want to try again. Thanks

  • omgggggg thnkssssssssss

now all i just need is that bean paste....^^

  • That looks hella good

  • Thanks for sharing! I've been looking for this recipe forever now! Thank You!

  • Hey @ThunderLaoKATng! Thanks for subscribing. WOW, I didn't know that's where the bean paste originated! Thank you for sharing your information. I know lots of people here want the bean paste!

  • Love your video demonstrating how to make this dish. The sauce for this dish varies because everyone makes it different. My mom makes this bean paste (Lue style *Lue people are from Northern Laos where this dish originates from) from scratch and lets it ferment for months! It's fresh and really flavorful! Anyone interested in purchasing some can email me at Laokatng@yahoo.com

  • Hi EvERYONE! I've been trying to set something up so everyone can go and purchase the Mien bean paste! I'm sorry for those of you who are still waiting...i'm still setting it up to make it easier for you guys to get this delicious MIEN bean paste!

  • I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • my mien sis-n-law made this before and it was good.

  • Thanks for uploading this video. I love kaleng phen. I always make my friend cook some for me. How do you make the bean paste? Please do a how to video on it. Thank you.

  • Stirring the mixture part over the stove is so tiring, especially when making a big batch of it, haha! I've been looking for a while on how to make this, so this video is very helpful.

  • Thank you @csaeteurn! Did you catch the microwave version? Interesting variation =^)

  • hey. thanks for keeping the mien culture alive :)

  • I just posted a vid. I did a slideshow instead though.

  • wow! Thanks for posting the recipe! I'm sure lots of people will try that method! I better try it too!

  • but the real test to see if it's cooked is if you spoon some and let it drizzle...if it comes down smoothly and continously without breaking, that means its ready

  • Recipe/ instruction: 2 cups of flour (American or Asian), 7 cups of hot tap water, a chunk of limestone paste (half-thumb size), BIG plastic tupperware bowl

Whisk all ingredients together and pour into tupperware (make sure its big enough and won't over flow)

Pop it in the microwave for 12 minutes on HIGH

Take it out every 3 mins and stir w/ wooden spoon (as if you were cooking on the stove), pop it back and continue

Keep an eye on it during the last 1-2 minutes, may bubble up.. enjoy!

  • have you tried the microwave method of cooking it?..... so much faster and easier for clean up....

  • lang tzing!

  • wow! That's cool! We'll have to feature that way of making Kaleng Phen on the channel!

  • This is great but I have an easier way of doing it. You can microwave it and it's very simple. Just microwave 6-8 minutes each time, stir and continue 3 to 4 times of 6-8 minutes and it'll come out perfect. Peeps, I sell the Mien bean paste if you're interested.

  • @TheMienChannel So i saw your comment on you guys selling the bean paste. How would I go about to purchase some?

  • I will try to get a bean paste expert and have the recipe here in the near future! Thanks!

  • i love eating this!!! could u please do a tutorial on how to make the mien bean paste? thanx!!!

  • Thanks for posting this! I tried making this once...failure! After watching this, I see where I went wrong. I can't wait to try this out :-9

  • Ahah, I am also a big fan of those soup dishes. I am also a big fan of nam wan xD

  • Oh, yah, yah! I'm a big fan of those soup dishes myself! those will be posted in the following months!!

  • @sbarican hey girl, my mom is an expert in making the Mien bean paste, it's too bad she doesn't speak English, hehehe...

  • should try teach us how to make ka poon and ka piet xD

  • I recommend using the rice flour if you can. If you are measuring with all purpose flour, make sure it's 16 oz, with a dry measuring cup. Also, measure the water with a wet measuring cup and it's important to make sure the water measurement is precise!

Pile on the limestone past so that it over flows from the teaspoon, in effect, it's more like 1 and a 1/4 teaspoon of limestone paste.. try that and if it doesn't turn out like Kaleng Phen, I'll have to ask my expert friend!

    let me know!

  • hey, thanks so much so showing this ingridents... I tried with all purpose flour with the same measurement and it doesnt turn out the same... is there another measurement for using all purpose flour instead of rice flour??? thanks

  • i like cube style.. im a guy so i rather have a girl do it for me lol

  • Oh no...now that I have learned to cook it, Sheng wants it everyday...
