Sorry dudes, but this riff is totally ,note by note a ripp off of BobbyParker song "Watch your step" from 1961.Not the whole song, just the riff.Check it out.PEACE
@beroth77 Ha ha, never knew that. Yeah they also em..acquired the riff shall we say for Black Night from Ricky Nelson's early 60's song Summertime and the melody to their 10min rock epic Child In Time was obtained from a song called Bombay Calling (or that may have been the name of the band!?) Zep and countless of other bands were at it as well back in the day. They made the riffs their own though and nobody really cared about issuing a law suit , ha ha.
@DCHurlford1 Man! I didn't know about these other two you told.Black night its unbelivable lolthey didnt changed even a note i guess.Child in time the same exept for been instrumental only.Yes,lots 9f ripp offs going on in the 70's but Zepp got suited and lost many times, and i dont think they plagiarism was so clear as these Purple ones.Except for the whole songs they just"didnt gave credits to the autor "lol. But,i cant deny the two bands mede bettee than originals.Cheers!
@beroth77 Your welcome. The most famous case i remember was Harrison's My Sweet Lord which was found to bear more than a passing resemblance to The Chifton's hit "He's So Fine". Think he had to hand over all the royalties from his single and some of his album's All Things Must Pass which was a bit of a bummer as it was the biggest selling single/album of his career. Oh right didn't realise Zep had been taken to task. Being honest there's not much that is truly 100% original in music.
@driffter1976 Ha ha, you should have seen him at the Glasgow Barrowlands in March '96, he was sporting a natty pair of cycling shorts. Those are mild in comparison.
Cheers for posting, great stuff. I saw them a week after this gig at the Glasgow Barrowlands but unfortunately they didn't play this powerful number. However I rem they played other tracks that hadn't been aired for a while like Fireball, No One Came, Bloodsucker and May'be I'm A Leo. Don't get me wrong DP are still a great live band but back in '96 they had more of an edge (something to prove after the exit of Blackmore and with Morse joining the DP family).
The absolute killer track from WDWTWA ! I saw them live more than any other band, (and two times in 96) but I wasn't to suppose they already played this song on stage. Fuckin' great !
ok Bombay Calling is the name of a Deep Purple live Album.
Also Child in Time was written by Deep Purple as an original piece! There simply is no other song that sounds remotely like it anywhere.
