Actually, you can take it, provided you wish the haul the whole body back to the lift. I've done that before. If you also bring the weapons, they don't get left behind/
I love how Jutah, the longest surviving member(second to Drake, but he was out of action for like 1 month) and one of the most reliable members, dies and he doesn't even notice it.
Luckily Yvel and Drake are still alive. The rest I don't care so much about lol
I think it's really stupid that, if someone dies or whatever, you just lose that set of armor entirely. If all the aliens are dead, what is stopping the crew from grabbing that armor and using it again? I mean surely some sets of armor wouldnt be completely unusable after someone dies. Never did like that part of this game too much.
Always nice to see another X-COM lets play, and always nice to see a Kiko LP. One thing though, the saveabusing is a downer, all the tension from your superhuman challenge is gone when I know nothing spectacularly bad can happen without a reload coming up. Without the risk of failure, victory tastes bland. Especially knowing that you CAN beat the game without it, you are the Kiko, nothing except maybe brains in jars could ever stop you!
Le sigh. The loading makes me sad. You can win the game even without correcting every mistake you make. That's what made the superhuman challenge so amazing and tense. If half of the squad gets wiped by a blaster bomb after a spectacularly bad decision ... well, that happens, it's a part of the unfolding X-Com story now. A twist in the plot that makes it all the more dramatic and exciting.
Ah anyway, I enjoy this LP. Keep up the good work. =)
Am i the only one who think that is an awesome weapon?? Its ideal to take out many aliens, especially in the open. Not so suited for this base though.
But i always use it on crash sites when there are no civilianz. If there are aliens in a barn or in a field i fire a rocket there to do area damage and i usually take out many aliens.
its expensive, but i love doing so much damage :-)
@JegHarEnLillePik Rocket launchers are also incredibly accurate, a direct hit from a Large Rocket will kill just about anything. Heck, you don't even have to aim with rockets, you can just shoot the ground or wall near the things you want to kill and they will most likely die.
Heavy cannons with HE Ammo are similarly awesome... except they don't obliterate walls like rockets do and they take quite a bit of strength training to wield effectively.
@EdMan6623 Yes, the only problem is that most players - like me - experienced the DOS version of the game were the Rocket launcher was bugged so that a) it couldn't be reloaded and b) it was terribly inaccurate if your strength wasn't 255 - which was impossible to achieve. Still, the blaster bomb launcher is MUCH better... unless you trigger the bug with that. it had an easy workaround, though, so no biggie.
@khaoliang Eh? I don't remember having that problem at all. Also, comparing the rocket launcher in X-Com to the blaster launcher is like comparing the rocket launcher in Doom to the BFG 9000.
@EdMan6623 I just tested it on the DOS version of the game and found that you can reload the rocket launcher. problem is you can only carry like one spare round if you want your unit still be able to move or even fire it, as it is pretty heavy which reduces TUs w/o enough strength. The explosion radius is OK, but it's still too inaccurate if you don't have high strength. only really usable in wide, open spaces. which, IMO, makes it rather useless; also, too high probability of collateral damage.
@khaoliang Patch the game to fix the difficulty bug, play it on superhuman, and see how far you get without early-game explosives. That's all I'm gonna say.
While I agree that explosives are awesome and should be used, I don't agree that Rocket Launchers are the way to go. I much prefer Grenades (especially alien grenades if you can get them fast enough) or high explosives/proxy grenades. Light/small (well the high explosives are bigger/heavier), easy to use with no skill, cheap, and you could still have a normal weapon on hand for fighting if needed.
Hey Kikoshia you said the game was a little choppy because of steam, I had the same problem and I edited the dosbox.conf file in the dir of the game and got it running perfect, it should look like this:
NOOOOOOO, not Sparkle! Dead because of a wrongly-selected shot button. A terrible end for an agent with a name that promised a glittering post x-com broadway career
Every X-COM player makes jokes about mythical blaster bombs or grenades appearing at exactly the best moment to rape you... so when you did, and it really happened, it was a genuine surprise.
Sometimes the best swerve is no swerve at all, and a completely expected event.
I still think you should have tried soldiering on, though, instead of reloading.
@HuntrBlackLuna Blaster Bombs are FAR from Mythical. The Commander (or his mooks in the control center) are pretty much guaranteed to have at least on Launcher on them. And they love doing what was just displayed here. Just wait till they start showing up in Terror and (eventually STANDARD) missions.
Oh, funny fact. Not sure if this version has fixed it, but, previously, there was a glitch in Blaster Bombs. Aim straight up down? The BB goes directly West. In a crowded Command Center...
Out of curiosity Kiko, do you have any intentions of LPing X-Com: Apocalypse or UFO: Extraterrestrials? The latter isn't an "official" X-Com game, but the Gold edition on Steam is as close to a true X-Com sequel in terms of storyline and mechanics as we'll ever get.
Poor Sparkle. I had my hopes up for you. But as always success is often paired with death. Alas poor Laura you didn't stand a snowballs chance in hell.
@tetsuv the top one (green) is the Time Units, how far you can move, the second one (orange-ish) is stamina, drops when you move too, more if you're carrying too much for your strength, third as you said is health, and the bottom one is morale.
Green is TU's (Time units) alittle bit is used up for every action a soldier takes, the more he/she has the more he/she can do in one turn.
Orange(Yellow?) is Energy, it's basicly a fatigue bar, more stuffs your carrying and stuffs your dooing the more tired you get, when it gets low the soldier cannot move tiles.
Purple is Moral, when aliens die it goes up, when x-com ops die it goes down (the higher the rank the more of a hit is taken) When its low the soldier panics. =3
Remember Kiko, if you happened to capture an Alien Commander, DON'T research him before interrogating an alien leader. Commanders can usually only be found in bases, so in case that blaster bomb snake man was one of 'em stick up to him until you get to research the leader first.
At 5:35 where you got blaster bombed. i once had a funny thing happen which involved that.
Aliens usally are useless with explosives as the grenade happy sankeman proved earlier and once I had a group approaching that door your guys went through and one of the commanders bodyguards fired his blaster bomb and blew up himself, the commander and everyone in the room.
@Rider339 Floaters do that a lot .. and Snakemen are just terrible with weapons in general. I don't think I've seen Mutons or Sectoids blow themselves up with them though.
funny thing happened to me this morning, i was playing xcom, and at the situation at ~ 5:30, but I had 8 rookie members of my team just inside the door, not realizing they would have a blaster bomb.
one bomb later my whole team was in panic, berserk and it nearly became unsalvageable.
Snakemen... Remember the description? It says they carry eggs inside.
Well, that is true in Ufo: The Two Sides. Imagine that every snakeman is able to lay at least one egg, which will hatch in 5 turns into a new snakeman, able to pick up weapons. But they usually pick up bombs and go kamikaze. What could be possibly worse?
This is even worse than your Doom archnemesis, Kiko, the Pain Elementals :P
@Dreadborn i know what could be worse if the crysalids don't know if i am spelling that right could do that so on top of making zombies that turn into more they lay eggs that make more
The Chrysalis are very fast, sometimes they are even able to zombify 5-6 men in your group. These zombies turn into another Chrysalises .... now you know why it's the worst enemy.
BTW they do not need to lay eggs. Their reproduction system is efficent and deadly enough.

So I finally got the X-COM pack on steam today.
I decided I'd be like Kiko, set up a base in the alps, and I even used a few of his squad names.
Second day I down a very small UFO.
Five days in I get a base defense mission.
With only Assault Rifles (Barry however had a cannon)
And a Cyberdisk.
I still had my original hangar and access lift loadout, so they came in on three sides.
Cyberdisks. Base Defense. Day five.
People died, then got alien controlled.
So I just restarted...
