  • I've heard about Donner pass and the Three Sisters, and such, out West, but I've never driven such roads myself. I'm a midwest driver. The worst roads I deal with are through the Appalachians, which are nothing by comparison, from what I hear. But I've had my scarey moments and I've been lucky enough to learn the easy way (I'm still alive). I wonder if the student didn't try to downshift only to realize he couldn't get it back into gear in time as the truck rapidly gained speed?

  • 1 guy was in the truck

  • I was thinking the big truck was chasing after the pick-up, the pick-up was driving way to fast too maybe they had some kind of altercation.

  • I thought the truck filming was just going to sneek on through and keep going!

  • @fthrcast. Those speed limit signs are for cars dumb ass. Not trucks. Do 5 to 10 slower than posted around turns. Even more in poor conditions.

  • Yeah. The student was driving while his mentor was sleeping in the bunk. Tragic.

  • Did you notice that the small pickup truck was a bit careless too? He actually couldn't make the turn , while staying in the passing lane. That should have been a clue for the trucker who was behind him (who crashed). The beginning of the video shows how the passer was actually drifting to the other truck already before the pass/ twist and braking rollover. Something other than driving was going on there. In a 55 , you don't go 70 around downhill bends , uphill bends you can , but not OK.

  • But you don't swerve your trailer around back and forth , in a tight inside turn like that. You have to bleed the load into the right lane or use alot of brake , especially where the trailer is coming out of the passing lane. That tells you you are too fast for the turn. I would have pressed the brake when I was beside the other truck , and held it well into the inside lane turn , then proceeded to pass to the right lane. No swerving , wow that was like a snowmobile move. He needed a ramp.

  • I had this happen to me with 1 of my loads in California , where the speed was limited to 40mph because of a very steep hill. I was fully maxed out , and did take the right lane at 40mph , but - my load kept pushing me into the next truck's rear end too close. I had to pull out of the lane , because I was using too much air to keep the heavy load at 40mph. I actually ran the 2nd lane at about 60 overall , and at the bottom my brakes were smoking. New brakes. Just about a mile from a scale.

  • Absolutely , in some cases you don't get to see these warning road signs , if you speed around curves (especially downhill winding roads where your load is a factor in your overall speed) , because you are always passing other trucks where the view of the shoulder is blocked (where signs are). That truck driver didn't brake in the passing lane to maintain control , and even did a push and pull with the steering , contributing to a load shift , or even a rollover. Dumb move , with lots of room.

  • I hate to see that stuff happen to anyone. As long as drivers keep getting to cocky or stop paying attention this will keep happening. more and more seems like!!!

  • @chono1976 Especially now that almost everyone seems to be driving SUVs, and they like to think that they are invincible when behind the wheel of said SUV...

  • how ever, is was him foult,

  • @commonman80 1 he was a student and the trainer was in the sleeper 2 it was a box truck other than a load bar at the very end of the load there is no way to secure a load in a box trailer and chances r he was in the wrong gear then his brakes burnt out from braking to much and it was probably his first time going down donners pass if u ask me it was the trainers fault. ive trained b-4 for prime and boyd brothers and believe me i made sure the student woke me up b-4 any mountain pass.

  • 55 was the speed limit......trucks not aloud in it.....oh NUT BUSH! Nut bush city limits. Nut bush city! Doodoodooooooooo doodoodoodododdodoooooo

  • Comment removed

  • This is the results of brake fade boys and girls. If your not sure your in the proper gear, drop down one more. Better safe than this guy.

  • The guy who filmed this is Very Lucky to be alive. If he had been 3 seconds faster or traveling at 65 mph, he would be dead now.

  • the word unreal, does that mean fake, not real? stupid word.

  • My guess would be, if he was a student driver, he missed a down shift, fried the brakes, and gained speed like crazy.

  • @midwestzx2, My guess is, he was trying to run with that Pickup Truck and didn't know how to anticipate the curve in the road, and because of the speed he was traveling, when he turned the wheel to sharply too the left, the load shifted (Because it was not secured properly) and centrifugal force forced the trailer to obey the laws of physics. Which took his STUPID ASS off the cliff.

    Truck Drivers falt 100%

  • Notice that the vehicle that was taking the video didn't stop, so how come everyone knows that people were killed?

  • this vi was on american trucker on speed

  • Looks like Interstate 80 heading from Tahoe to Sacramento. That stretch of road is a bitch, worse when its snowing.

  • Keep on truckin'!

  • are you a schneider driver. it looks like an orange truck that ur in.

  • hoooly shi##%

  • Thats right and only 3 weeks of truck driving school you can be this good.

  • and u kinda just keep driving on? lol

  • @lwisdawg No, the truck driver with the video cam stopped. Watch the full video here.

    watch?v=wifwg6xWVAU

  • Drove through the smoke like a champ, eh?

  • Nice! the driver of that truck needs castrating!!!!!!!

  • @thegod2k2 No need cause he died in that accident and furthermore he was a student driver and the trainer was asleep in the bunk like he wasnt suppose to be.

  • Truck drivIng epic failure

  • Did you stop to see if they were alright?!!?! That's what I would have done, and called CHP cause I'm in California lol

  • It doesn't matter if he saw the flashing sign or not. When you hold a class A CDL your your considered a professional driver, so that dumbass driver knew not to take the turn that fast.....

  • @OGZ32 Maybe be the time he realized it, it was too late

  • @OGZ32 Dude get ur facts straight before posting something about this driver!!! For one he was a student driver, hint not considered a pro yet, #2 his trainer was asleep in the bunk at the time of the accident which he was not suppose to be doing!!! #3 The student driver died at the scene. Why do so many talk so much shit about this guy when clearly it wasnt his fault do to lack of training and supervision!!!!!

  • @sumofnone3 Who was driving the truck? Of course its the drivers fault it doesn't matter if its a student driver or not he should know better not to speed ...it's quite obvious he was going way too fast and faster then the speed limit .As soon as the driver got to the curve he/she was already riding in the other lane so obviously he/she couldn't handle the truck..

  • That trucker probaly didnt see the sign at 0:11,TURN AHEAD AT 55 MPH LIMIT.

  • He was probably racing the pick up truck. Truck drivers love to speed on mountain roads. Sad

  • I don't understand why an amateur driving a rig that wrecks, due to ignorance and inexperience, SUDDENLY means all truck drivers are like that? I can guarantee you that not all truck drivers are like this. I'm sorry this happened to this young driver and his passenger, but I honestly can't believe that you people who drive 6,000lb (average) vehicles, EXPECT an 80,000lb+ Semi, to stop on a damn dime. You people are unbelievable. The people who bash this video, and all truck drivers should be put-

  • -cont'd.

behind the wheel of a big rig for one day and see what they have to put up with ALL DAY - EVERY DAY. They take so much crap from 4 wheelers on the freeways that it's unbelievable. They're driving 40 tons of steel down the highway trying to bust their ass to make ends meat, and yet you clowns on the freeways will:

    Cut them off

    change lanes without signaling

jump across 6 lanes of open highway to catch your exit that's 150ft ahead,

yak on that damn cell phone

    tailgate-

  • -cont'd 2.

hide away in their blind spots, and do all this other crap to them - and yet you will sit here and talk crap about them? These men and women who have dedicated their lives to driving across the country - having to spend time away from their families mind you - are delivering EVERYTHING YOU USE DAILY. You want to know how everything gets around? Look at the monsters rolling down the highways with 18 wheels - trying to make the deadline. Learn some respect of get off the damn road.

  • @wylierebel '.. Learn some respect ..'

Get off your high horse, fellow. Just like many others, truckers are doing a job for money. That doesn't warrant any MORE respect than that deserved by others - something you're not showing "4 wheelers" trying to meet deadlines (get to work on time, etc). At the same time, truckers as a whole are just as rude & insensitive (cutting others off, not signaling, tailgating, yakking on cell phones, etc) as other drivers. By the way, I'm a retired trucker.

  • @stewartx5 not all truckers are the same - if you didn't understand my previous posting that's was mainly the piece in the 1st continuance saying that just because one trucker makes a mistake - doesn't mean all of them are bad drivers or inexperienced, there are PLENTY of very well trained drivers out there.

I'm mainly trying to say that yes, 4wheelers can be in rushes too, sometimes cutting off 80,000lbs is your only option but why not just go a few minutes up the road and fine a reasonable

  • @wylierebel spot to perform a safe U-Turn. You're going to risk your life and the lives of others because you're in a hurry? It's not right. And FYI I wasn't on a high horse - if you need to understand what I was trying to say then review my previous comments and try replying again.

-Not to mention that the 1 18 wheeler you cut off - has been cut off at LEAST 20 other times that day & have to put up with more shit in 1 hr then the average 4 wheeler does in a week.

    Call it w/e you want.

  • @stewartx5 I would suggest reading my post again seeing as how clearly you didn't read the whole comment.

  • @stewartx5 Another typical asshole 4 wheeler driver!! Its because of your attitude that we cut you little pricks off.

  • @sumofnone3

LOL. Your profile on YouTube says you're 32-years old. Boy, I was driving trucks before you were even born and, since you've driven only a small portion of that 32 years, I've obviously clocked up far more miles. Like far too many younger drivers today, your rash, almost child-like, attitudes give all truckers a bad name. Grow up and learn how to at least act like a civilized adult. Others on the roadway, who will be much safer afterwards, will certainly appreciate that.

  • @stewartx5 All this coming from an idiot claiming to be a driver huh? Bullshit your full of shit!! Your not a driver or you would not be commenting like you are! Call me what you want, but you dont sound like a driver to me or anyone else here for that matter. Dont you know the real facts of this accident and if you do how can you comment on this like this. Have some respect, unless let me guess if you are a driver you must be one of those Know it all right.

  • @sumofnone3 '.. don't you know the real facts of this accident ..'

Buddy, nothing you said nor I said has anything whatsoever to do with the accident shown in this video. And I don't really care whether I "sound like" a driver to you. Not even going to waste time responding to your other hogwash.

  • @stewartx5 Good Im glad your going to stop responding thats exactly what i want you to do.

  • i like how the camera car drove right on by instead of stopping at all.

  • there should be a trailer ejection button for these situations. It could of saved their lives. Agree?

  • @AtariGuy666 No, he should just not be an idiot and speed in a semi....THAT would have saved their lives....

  • the accident truck almost cliped the truc with the camera

  • Wow that is a bad crash. Some mistakes are fatal and that one sure was. The cabs on those trucks are all fiberglass. They have no real structure so in a bad crash they are almost always totally demolished.

  • why is their a woman trucker

  • The driver who caught this on dash cam, was in a big truck traveling on a downgrade over Donner pass. He did the best he could to slow down and move to the left. Hoping that nothing would be in the left lane.

He also DID stop and park on the shoulder after this accident. He did not just drive off, it takes awhile to stop a big truck and get it over to the shoulder. There was an original full length video uploaded by this driver, where it shows him stopping and staying to help.

  • Very smart of you to drive through the dust cloud and away. If you had obeyed the law and stopped it would have taken too much of your precious time to wait for the police to arrive, answer questions, etc. - much more efficient to just post the vid here and anonymously email the link to the proper authorities.

  • @jsuttonus

Ok genius, you obviously know nothing about big rigs.

    1) It takes a while to slowdown safely. If he had slammed on his breaks at that speed and in that curve, his trailer would jackknife and he'd wreck too.

    2) He drove through the left dust cloud because he knew where the centrifugal force of the curve dragged the wrecked semi.

    3) If he'd stopped in that sharp curve where no one could see things until it was too late, he may well have caused another wreck.

    He's a professional.

  • @jsuttonus

    cntd.

So shut your mouth, quit typing, watch the video again, and learn. It might save your life one day.

  • i got it i got it i got it...oh shit!

  • @geonasa07 YOU MUST BE A NEWBEE TO MAKE WHAT HAPPEND A FUCKING JOKE YOUR DAY IS SOON WHEN YOU FUCK SOMETHING UP

  • things start to go wrong at :24

  • lol the camera guy just changes lanes and goes on its way

  • @0235681956

    and you wouldn't do that?

  • @MarkQP question fail

  • @0235681956 no unlike anyone else on the road he is stooping to help out but he's pulling out of traffic

  • 0:16

the driver is using the brakes so the trailer goes lost.

if he didnt use the brake his chance to make it through would have been better.

  • he won't be in part 2 hunh

  • @crim4527 THAT SHIT IS NOT FUNNY BUD YOU DONT MAKE JOKES ON THINGS LIKE THAT THEM GUYS DIED UR DAY IS SOON WHEN YOU GET AND A BAD JAM 1 DAY U SEE

  • @1974bky I was Not makeing fun of them.i woulden't want this to happen to no one

but they wont be in part2

  • did u help them

  • Comment removed

  • o Ja Pier***e

  • omg i could not imagine seeing that in person

  • That's too bad....... but that's what happens when your stupid.

  • Mamo... por lento xD

  • How long did it take to pry the seat cushion out of your butt cheeks? That was a Pucker Factor 20 moment!

  • No idea if the truck driver survived. But his estimate speed was around 70 miles per hour or 112Km/h

  • no survived. Check my site and you will see the whole story on it in one of my videos. This was a student driver and the trainer was asleep in the back. Both were killed

  • So the driver and according to you another passenger in that truck both died? wow..:[ sad.

Can I ask how you know all this>?

I watched your video too (the aftermath clean up)

  • @sumofnone3 no survived?? sorry i don't get it...did you mean - No, he/them did not survive?

Also what county and state was this in? i'm in lakewood, Denver & what state are you in? Did you say this happened In Colorado?

  • @Nitrazepam000 Donner Pass in California, Westbound.

  • @Nitrazepam000 donner pass. interstate 80, california.

  • @mdl80271 Thank you, I knew it was the Rockies somewhere. The whole thing realy was pretty sad huh?

  • @Nitrazepam000 The reason I know all this is cuz Im a truck driver and I saw this in one of my annual retrain classes in West Virginia. I drive a coal truck here and have to take annual training every year. I think this happened somewhere in the Rockies.

  • @Nitrazepam000 i think its colorodo and the driver and his trainer perished. This road is known as donner pass. It has very steep grades and corners.

  • @emutiny This happened in the Sierra mountains in California. The driver just came over Donner Pass and was heading west towards Sacramento on I-80. Driving like that I'm surprised he got that far.

  • @sumofnone3 Why would a trainer be sleeping on the job???

  • @thesullivankid2425 Dont know why. When I was in training about 10 years ago my first trainer did the same thing until I reported him to the safety dept. then I was assigned a better trainer

  • @sumofnone3 That's too bad, being a student driver at the wheel who made a fatal mistake. It does happen fast don't it.

  • @Nitrazepam000 YOU DON'T BECAUSE IY'S NOT YOUR VIDEO

  • @Nitrazepam000 there is a vid on here supossing the driver who recorded it and that video said that a student was driving and the trainer was in jumpseat when he lost control and acording to it he said both died

  • Wow. Closeup shot of that. Can see the debris flying through the air at your vehicle too. Did he survive this ? Did you pull over ?
