I live in Lake livingston texas and there are those in the lake and i still swim in it they dont mess with people or dogs i have a chocolate lab and he swims in the lake all the time and never been near one but if you go and wait at the lake for a while you can see them roll on the top of the water and splash and stuff but ive never been any close than 30ft from one

I had just shot at a carp and a 3-4 foot gar went cruisin about 5 feet from me but I couldnt retrieve my arrow in time, I know that is a small gar but for this area you dont get many shots at gar and one that big is pretty decent: the one that got away

I used to do this as a kid here in south FL. but the biggest gator gar we got was about 6lbs an 2ft. never knew they got even close to that big.
