I beg to differ with Lanny Breuer, and say that the people do need to own semi-automatic rifles. We need them to protect ourselves from him and Dianne Feinstein (sounds like her name is German, imagine that). Not only do we need to protect ourselves from them, but it is also our right to own those weapons.

Very lax laws? Are you kidding me, come to IL and try to buy a gun. A $10 fee for a FOID card, 4-6 month wait period. buy the weapon+tax, then the FFL transfer fee usually $15-35, then a 1-4 day wait period. Then your card can be revoked without any notice or investigation based on someone else status whether mental or criminal; then they can seize the firearm and charge you with a crime if the FOID is not active, even if the shooting is justified. I have experience with all above.
