Now, tell me. When you have many people in the business, not just one, who share this view, is there not something going on that gives some credibility to it? When you have well respected comedians constantly blasting the man about documented things he has done, is there not any merit to these "opinions"? The only thing I need to say is this. Look at the late great Mr. Carson. He never appeared on the show "The Tonight Show" while Leno was host, yet he visited Dave twice and contributed jokes.

I like Conan and Leno, but for God's sake, Leno did NBC a favor by taking back the Tonight Show. People need to stop blaming Leno. NBC is the one who screwed everything up, Conan didn't have ratings and was a victim of circumstances and Leno dared to accept a job and make a living. I know, the devil, right?

In the short run, yes, Leno "did NBC a favor," but he also further damaged his already scumbag reputation with a sizable amount of folks who weren't around when Leno fucked over both Mr. Johnny Carson and David Letterman during the early '90s Late Night scuffle.

It took Leno nearly 3 years until he began beating Dave in ratings. Conan had 6 months, and he did a better job at debut.

Also, regarding you're previous comment on Leno being funnier. That's an opinion, not a fact.

@banditr0se Sorry some people think he's a scumbag. I don't, some do. Just a matter of opinion. Again. NBC was a big factor in the original Late Night Wars deal. Obviously some hands were dirty from most parties involved, but again, just how you view it is what your opinion is. Like I said, Conan was a victim of circumstances. Conan strong-armed NBC to get himself The Tonight Show, at a time when Leno had no plans of retiring. No-one calls Conan a "scumbag" for that.

@banditr0se It was Conan's doing to make things un-easy, amd NBC wanted to keep Leno so they had a bad idea of sticking him in Primetime. If Conan waited for Leno or jumped ship, none of what happened would have. NBC handled things bad, but so did Conan and if you want to say Leno did for promising Conan The Tonight Show(Which he did get by the way, then failed on), which ended up hurting NBC, then okay. I never want to hear Leno doing NBC a favor makes him a bad person.

I enjoy Conan, but I like Leno better. I'm sick and tired of people bashing Leno for, in most cases, no reason. Like Letterman before him, Conan patiently waited for years to get the hosting duties. BOTH NBC and Leno had the option of either telling Conan off when, saying yes, or making some sort of deal between the three parties. Conan might come off as a scumbag to some, for some weird reason, but when you compare the way in which Conan handled this in 2004 to the way that Leno handled it in the early '90s, Conan comes off as a class act. He did not pretend to be a friend or tell lies.

@banditr0se It was a no win sitiuation. If Leno and NBC tell Conan no, then they get looked at as hangers-on, not looking at the future. They did make a deal. It was the deal that Conan instigated, which ended up being added upon by NBC, which made things even messier.

The "Bashing Leno for no reason in most cases" refers to Gossip websites and bitter CoCo fans bashing his show, his comedy or any social event he partakes in. Some comedians like Leno, some don't.

Plus, there's a reason that Mr. Leno has the reputation as a manipulative douche, not just to Conan or Letterman fans, but to comedy fans in general. He constantly coerces small comedy establishments into paying him ridiculous amounts of money that they can't possibly pay. AND, Jay has a record of constantly placing blame on others that he so well deserves. (i.e. his managers, NBC, etc.). The criticism he gets in fan pages, although unfortunately, is not without merit.

So I'm sure comedians see him as a bad person, I'm sure some people are simply bitter, but I don't doubt some is with merit. Leno does nothing to the public, yet his pages are flooded with morons.

I don't know to be honest. I do know that when there was a guest host, "Johnny's Theme" would be played during the title and guest intros, and then another song would be played after Ed announced the guest host. I noticed that when I watched an episode Steve Martin guest hosted in the 70s on here.

This was the original theme written by Branford Marsailes. Jay didn't particularly like it , but part of the deal with Marsailes was that HIS theme would be used. When Marsailes left the show, Leno wanted Kevin Eubanks to write a new theme song, but NBC said "No" - the show was doing well with the old theme, don't rock the boat. When Leno got the 10 PM show he was allowed to have Kevin write a new theme. They're keeping it until the new bandleader is hired after Eubanks leaves.

@GQmodelFace I believe it was called "Kevin's Country" or something like that, penned by Eubanks... One of the few trombone-centric songs you would hear on TV. I only know how to play the first 30 seconds or so of it, since that's how long the credit roll usually lasted...but stay tuned for it on my YouTube channel!

Actually, I think that the original theme was a bit different than this one. I remember a different, but similar theme at the beginning. I also remember that he had "Rescue Me" by Aretha Franklin as his theme before this one, which I believe came Leno overhauled the feel of the show with the comedy club feel.

Isn't what "Rescue Me" what they played when he guest-hosted the Tonight Show? They'd play Johnny's Theme until Ed introduced him, then switch to that when he walked through the curtains...

@jonkaho if only for completeness' sake I will have to! The biggest difference between the new one and the old JLS theme is the bassline; that, and the sax has a few new parts. Kind of a new bridge. And then there's a new rhythm section at the end. But the general melody is the same as the JLS theme. It's definitely been added to my list.

I AGREE! I love Jay AND Conan, but Jay will be hurting his reputation if he does this to Conan. He (Jay) should take the buy-out from NBC, and either get a show on FOX or ABC (both wanted him AND Conan before) or retire completely. I'm convinced that if the format for his new show would've remainded the exact same as it was on "The Tonight Show", he'd probably have better ratings. This new format is what's killing Jay's new show IMO.
