  • Thanks for taking your time uploading this.

  • Hey good video ta!! Just one question, at 4:56 when you said "for most people, it will probably be better to get a large case, especially considering the extra ____something____ you get"... sorry, I am bad in english, I am not sure what you said, was it "noise"? or maybe "room"? I didn't think I'd get extra noise so I hope that's not it :(

  • As discussed below, there is not enough room for a silent CPU cooler. Last time I made a silent PC, I used two large passive head sinks, one for the CPU and GPU. Then I cooled it all with a single 120mm fan at its lowest setting. That is my standard for a silent PC.

  • Here is a picture of it: silentpc . cablecat . dk

Well I have the old nsk1300 (300w psu) and just installed a HIS4670 Turbo card (only 60w) and it would not run (no display at all) so I am considering to upgrade to the 1380 350w power supply, same case...

What motherboard do you use. Is the pcie 2.0 or 1.1 or 1.0a?

Since the 4850 is pcie2.0 I would like to exclude that it is the pcie bus that is the problem.

  • MB: Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2 - no PCI2.0

  • Thanks,

Found the problem, had to init the vgadisplay on the pcie port and not the integrated 690G chip. This was done in the bios.

It runs now but there ar e no drivers for w2k so have to install xp...

My mb is a Sapphire PI-AM2RS690MHD - PURE Innovation 690G.

  • Hi cablecatdk, do you know if the psu-fan blows the air into the case or from the case to the outside? A friend of mine wants to buy a cpu cooler and is unsure if he can build a silent system

    cheers :-)

  • The PSU fan blows air out of the case.

There is not enough room for a really silent CPU cooler.

  • @akizetagamma

i used this case to build a quiet quad core and sitting right next to it you can hardly hear anything

    amd 630 quad

    asus M4A785T-M/CSM

    4gb gskill kit ddr3@1600

western digital black edition 500 gb hdd

lite on 24 x dvd burner

super quiet and not to heavy

    looks great too!!

  • What kind of adapter did you use for connecting to the 6pin pci-e connector of the 4850?

thx alot for helping and answering

    greets

  • The one that came with the video card. It is a standard 2x4pin-molex to 1x6pin.

  • Cool!!! This is the best I found this week. I plan to build an SFF ro replace my dead laptop. This NSK 1280 came up due to its size and price. A bit qorried about its PSU. I wonder how much watt quad core CPU, say 6600 2.4 reuires? If it is another 50W, it would be too tight to have HD4870 in mine, inn't?

  • Just saw one of your answers below. CHange my question a bit. SO you think I should go for a quad core system and switch to NDIVIA card to save some watts? Anyway, I only use one 1TB HDD!

  • The Q6600(4x2.4GHz) consumes a lot of power since it a 65nm CPU. I recommend using the Q9300(4x2.5GHz) instead which is a 45nm CPU. However the Q9300 consumes 95W, which is more than the 65W my E8400(2x3GHz) spends. If that current (95W) is spend only on the 3.3/5 rail(max 110W), the PSU is toast - regardless of which video card you use.

My conclusion is that it is not a good idea to use a QUAD core CPU with this case. 2x3GHz is also faster for gaming that a 4x2.4GHz CPU.

  • It helps a lot buddy. There is 1 more thing. I wonder if the original 350W PSU is removeable for replacement. It looks like the Antec Basiq 350W, which is the same size as the Antec Basiq 500W.

  • The PSU does not look like the Antec Basiq 350W at all.

  • I borrowed a pretty expensive pice of equipment from work that can measure how many amps that flows though a wire. I have measured my system under maximum load to see if was possibly to upgrade the video card and CPU.

It turns out at the current is nicely shared. So it is likely that you puss the PSU close to its rated 350W. The CPU uses mostly the 12V rail, which can handle the load. So I think you can pop in a QUAD core CPU in it. QUAD + 4870 might be pussing it, but I think it is possible.

  • ok, so, uhh... will the PSU suffice the 9800 GTX?

    what do you think?

hey man, thanks for all the help. sometimes I'm stupid when I ask these questions, but it really means a lot to me. n_n

  • The 9800GTX uses about the same watts as 4850, so that is okay. It is also a 2 slot cooler and properly the best choice when it come to having less noise.

  • all we need now is to do some cable management, although its small, I guess the cables can absolutely be managed. haha. I'm going to start it in a couple of days. :D

hmmm, seems that yours is kinda neat now. haha. I just notice it just now!? LOL! silly me. :D

    thanks. :)

  • Hmmm... okay, thanks. I'm going to search regarding these. :)

  • No, I have not replaced the cooler. This was also one of my main concerns about the case - that there is not room for a low noise cooler.

  • Have you seen Cooler Master Vortex 752? You think it would fit? What do you think? :P

    Thanks.

  • The free hight seems to be about 60mm. The cooler is 75,4mm.

  • Here are some suggestions:

    Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 LP

    HiperFlow HFC-10828-C2

    LC Power Cosmo Cool LC-CC93

    NorthQ 3314BLA UFO

  • Hello!

besides the AC Freezer 7 LP, will the AC Alpine 7 Pro fit inside?

Again, thanks for your thoughts. I definitely appreciate it. :)

  • The height is 118mm. It is almost twice as high as there is room for.

  • I see, thanks. :)

  • yo!

you think the psu can handle a 4870? :D

  • It depends on what else you got in the PC. I was considering switching my 4850 with a 4870 just to get better air cooling. You should measure how much your PC currently consumes at full load, and add the estimated watt a 4870 spends more that you current video card.

In my PC that is 210W + ~50W, which is still well below that rated 350W of the power supply. However the video card uses 12V, and the spare watts might be on the 5V or 3.3V.

  • I did a little research:

The combined output of the two 12V plugs is 300W

The combined output of the 3.3V + 5V plugs is 110W

It is very likely the system can power a 4870.

  • ok... well.. I'm a little worried on that... maybe I'd go for something else. thanks! :)

  • hope you could do future reviews of your own system cases. I'll be looking forward for that. thanks. :)

  • hmmm...how much is the wattage hour there in Denmark? anyhow, I'm really astounded on your setup. man...3 HDDS (120GBx1TBx1TB), 8Gigs of mem, Core 2, plus your very cool GFX card. wow... I've read reviews that the PSU won't do it if you've got a heavy spec. oh yeah, 3DGameMan said GFX cards of over 9" long won't fit. hmmm... am not really sure with the 8800GT though... anyway, thanks for that man. YOUR SYSTEM IS TRULY A 'KICKASS PRODUCT!' hehe. :)

  • The watt/hour price in Denmark is about 2kr/0.42$/0.27€. Hardware on the other hand is very cheap. If I leave my PC turned on 24/7, the graphic card (50W in idel) will spend its own cost in electricity in 1.5 year which is 1200kr/249.10$/160.84€.

  • It is true that the length of the card can be a problem.

  • Or not... There seems to be plenty of space for a large graphics card.

  • Remember that it is a 350W, quality, high efficient PSU. My system only use 105W/205W in IDEL/load, and only 45W/105W without the graphic card. Electricity is very expensive in Denmark, therefor I have only used components with that give a good performance/watt rotation. However I am considering buying the HD4870 to get better air ventilation, because it is a 2 slot cooler.

  • Pluses: * It is amazing how much you can fit into this small case. * Installation is easy, at least the second time. * Very professional made. * Nice CDROM front. * High efficient PSU. * Heat transfer from harddrives to case works Minuses: * No room for a bigger more noiseless CPU fan. * No room for antivibe harddrive. * No GPU power plug at PSU. * Case heats up = more noise. Concussion: * If you need a small case for a highend gaming PC, this is good product.
  • Thanks! :)

  • ohhh...by the way, you think an GeForce 8800GT would fit inside? thanks for the reply! :)

  • I'm pretty sure it will. The 8800GT also comsume a little lees power that the HD4870.

  • HD4850 I mean

  • I guess the PSU can't be upgraded after all. LOL!

anyhow, thanks for this insight. Am considering on buying this case.

    WOW! :)

  • The PSU does not follow the ATX standard.

  • thanks for this video. :)

  • Notice that I was almost able to open the case with only one hand.

  • can the PSU be upgraded?

  • oh yeah, what's the length of your video card? Its good to know that you've fitted your HD4870 there. also, I'm really impressed with your setup, considering it has only a 350watts PSU. thanks! n___n
