  • Karl's already met Derren Brown, and had his mind blown! it's talked about on one of their XFM shows.

  • It became serious for Steve when the 20 pounds was introduced.

  • ha ha id love to see karl on derrin brown it would be piss funny.....

  • "Are you confident?" ummm im 50/50 to be honest....

  • Stephen looks quite young here

  • I actually went with no, purely on the basis that he told me it was no. Trying to get me to change my mind, but actually he knew i'd have the thought in my head to change it and wouldn't. But I change it, outsmarting him and getting the money. But if I was there doing it, god knows...

  • why is steve dressed as a nurse?

  • @scatmancrothers pretty sure he used to be a nurse

  • 5:19 stephen trying not to cry

  • bet two voices in tv

  • Never mind Smerch.

  • Brown could never do this to Pilkington!!

  • @casperld He did already haha. They talked about it.

  • STEVEN MITCHELL

  • I would have just picked yes or no and said it four times.

  • haha i got two right!! just random guesswork tho...

  • I was thinking no at the end.......

  • Haha I got it right the last three times. Damn I would have been a grand up!!!

  • When he introduced the £20.... he introduced an emotional "anchor" to Stephen's decision, he weighted the "value" of the answer in Stephen's mind (whichever he chose) so the extra £980 simply re-enforced the original decision process... the £20 created a stronger emotional connection compared to the simple initial "yes/no" Derren originally controlled. What a legend mind!!!

  • The trick would be to change your mind at the last second on the last round, so from being guaranteed to be wrong, you would now be right.

  • oh steve that time you overspent by twenty quid for a ps2 and lost 20 at a casino...unlucky!

  • No :P

  • if you knew anything about steve you would know how teasing that was at the end!

  • I actually would have won every single time, which I find quite amazing.

  • what d'you expect, hes a merchant

  • i wanna see him do that to karl pilkington

  • Can i have 1000 pounds anyway?

  • He told him it was 'NO'!!

  • i would love to see karl pilkington go up against derren, i reckon karl would win cos he doesn't go according to logic lol

  • @onetreehill1623

he did go up against him about something, and even karl was amazed :P

  • @wrsoldier6 REALLY?! i beg you 2 send me the link plzzzzzzzz

    cheers m8!

  • btw this is mathematics, proofs and numbers/stats, learnt thisin my 1st week at uni. very similar to the film 21

  • I won twice.

  • Karl Pilkington would be good at this because he will just guess randomly whereas everyones elses minds would be cluttered with probability and such.

  • In the last guess, Steve guessed "yes" when the answer was no. Why did Derren Brown then not accept that answer and give him the chance to change his mind? That's just cocky.

  • @TheAcer4666 He messes with peoples minds. That's why.

  • i won each guess like a boss

  • @KINGSTONUSB2 yes but if you were there your answer would be different. You're not paying enough attention. Derren is doing a lot of different things with body language and putting thoughts into his head which he is thinking through carefully. He could get money and you couldn't. You you are both thinking differently.

  • -Hands 1,000- Steven: Shall I hang onto it or?

  • he's such a cool adorable dweeb

  • XD sorry to be a poopie pants

  • number 1: as he said, he nodded.

number 2: 'NOT trying to follow me?' 'NO', also 'NOT going to play weird games', also 'you DIDNT just see what that said' 'NO', plus a whole load of 'no' after

Number 3: he knows Steve will try to break the pattern he just wants to hear it to confirm

Number 4: 'Are you confident?' brings us back to 'no': breaking the pattern didnt work, so hell think 'yes'. When Darren falters he says 'YES' to push that thought. Then he makes it stick by giving him 3 seconds :)

  • "No." ... "Ah." hahahhahaahha

  • Stephen Merchants comment about himself is right in the money (sorry about the pun!) Deren Brown just rocks!!!

  • I guessed the last one correctly, so there, that makes me feel better anyway.

  • not sure if it's because I may have seen this a long time ago or that I've watched enough of his stuff to have a feel for his tricks but I guessed the last two correctly. You've got to think "what answer feels most comfortable, natural and intuitive?" then go with the opposite.

  • Hahaha poor Steve, so sweet.

  • Derren Brown would never lie. :)

  • Two very cool men. Love both of them

  • poor Wheatley nothing ever works out the way he wanted

  • Heres £1000.. right, should I just hold on to that then?

  • Imagine Karl Pilkington doing this!

  • @Goff8 he is the biggest thinker outside the box ever and i think he would flaw darrens mind games because they wouldn't work XD

  • @MrGamerBazer Hahaha definitely!

  • @Goff8 I would love to see that hahaha.

  • Oh god. Merchant AND Brown. I've died & gone to geek girl heaven!

  • aww steve looks all young

  • WHEATLEY!

  • He doesn't sound stingy. Isn't he being sarcastic, like saying it for a joke? Seems like it to me. :/

  • @xPancakeMonkeyx Nah, he was SO like that in the beginning haha

  • Imagine how much cheese could buy with that £20, he must've been distraught.

  • Steve is clearly being ironic in the final interview..! Yeah he may be portrayed on XFM as being heaps stingy with money but I'm pretty sure his intellect would outweigh his desire to make a point about not getting given the money..

  • i would hate to play poker with Derren Brown

  • whats wrong with all you?! stephen merchant is the coolest dude in the world

  • even after all the money he's made with the office ect, stephen still gets very serious after 20 quid is introduced

  • faulty tooth...42!!!

  • Look at that lanky goggle-eyed freak!

  • Eyes bulging with imagined riches!

  • @BuhBuhBuhBren nice reference

  • @BuhBuhBuhBren ya check out the blatant masonic handshake at 0:49 !!!!!

  • @BuhBuhBuhBren BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Steve is THE most stingy person on TV. Just listen to the old XFM shows!

  • @tomabwhite That's what makes this amazing! He was pissed off about losing 20 quid on his PS2, imagine how angry he is about a thousand.

  • @tomabwhite 50p !

  • @tomabwhite just watch his new comedy lol

trust me funny and he brings it up constantly

  • @tomabwhite yeah the 50p thing with karl pilkington, stingy fucker

  • @tomabwhite what does stingy mean? is it pronounced stindjy or stingy

  • @schnorschrajaxx It means he is tight with his money, you say it how it's spelt.

  • @Davetheravepow Not sure a German will understand the colloquial meaning of "tight"!!

  • @Davetheravepow You don't say it how it's spelt: It's spelt STINGEY. You spelt it wrong. The way you spelt it, it would have to be pronounced "sting" with a Y on the end, as in "a bee is a very "stingy" insect.

  • @schnorschrajaxx STINGY means MEAN (as in the opposite of GENEROUS).

  • @schnorschrajaxx Oh sorry, somebody already told you.

  • Haha Steve's face when money was suddenly involved. Derren knew his weakness. Stingy Cunt!
