Nice memory you've created. I worked at knotts as a stuntman for about 3 years and have such fond memories that my home built in wyoming was directly inspired by ghost town structures, but I don't have a peek in . You have inspired me! Very cool and thanks so much.
@TheLApitfighter Worked great, thanks! I improved the animation by using a wiper motor to move Johnny's arm and also jiggle the scale. Once again, I sent chocolate coins down a chute -- along with golden dollars -- to trick-or-treaters who yelled "Eureka!" There was more traffic this year, so I think word is spreading! It was a lot of fun and I look forward to many fun years ahead.
There's a lantern with a flickering candle effect hanging over the doorway now. I also found an antique pick-axe to lean against the wall next to "Johnny's" table. But the neatest additions happen naturally: lots of cool spiderwebs and cobwebs! There was a really impressive one that extended from the window all the way to Johnny's hat! (Never thought I'd get excited about spiderwebs!!)
really cool. You are my kind of guy. I built a town with retired knotts manikins. They rode a greyhound bus from orange cal to ohio. no joke. look at chapman falls springfield ohio for more on that.
That's awesome, man! I've always thought you guys who build theme-park-inspired rides in your backyards are some of the coolest theme park fans in the world, but recreating a Knott's peek-in is really commendable.
Your narration sounds so much like the actual peek-in narrations that until I read your comment that it was your voice, I assumed you had recorded it from an actual peek-in.
Thank you, too, for your videos documenting the peek-in renovations -- I'm really glad they preserved them!!
I'm really looking forward to putting my "peek-in" to effective use this Halloween. I plan on setting up a two-way speaker system (like at Sad Eye Joe's jail at Knott's) to talk to the trick-or-treaters. I'll have a table set up with the perfect candy for a prospector, chocolate-covered gold coins!
The two-way talk box worked well, so I was able to hide and talk to the kids from inside the "peek-in" as they came by. (I had a whole routine worked out.) Then, I sent the chocolate coins down a long chute into a box. As a bonus, every so often I would send down a real "golden" dollar! Once word spread that I was giving away real money, you can imagine how popular I became!!
Can't wait till next year! I'll probably have a line around the block!
I did, thanks! (That's my voice on the narration, too.) I'm continuously adding to it as I find more antiques and old tools in storage. I've always wanted to bring a little bit of Ghost Town home with me, so it's neat to have. Thanks for looking!
