  • This is my favourite thing on the internet right now

  • @bobvalentinful (PART 3)

The cartoon was actually motivated by the article AJ wrote (have you read it?) – it has a most unnatural quality to it, like a parody, as though it was vetted by several PR committees. The whole cartoon is really supposed to be about what might have ‘really’ motivated AJ to write the article.

We can talk about the cancer articles if u like (should have had references!) That was just a dig at AJ for glossing over ANYTHING negative about these establishments.

    Best,

This very silly cartoon however is meant to cast no aspirations as to the class/intelligence of people who go to McDonalds/Greggs/KFC – I don’t think its mentioned once. There are many other reasons to object to these establishments including sustainability, treatment of farmers, or how they represent their products amongst many others. All these factors I think show a lot more contempt for their consumers, than anything I might have said…

You are right that much of what is presented as discussions on ‘nutrition’ often becomes thinly veiled snobbery. I think this is VERY true of a lot of ‘fat fighting’ television shows which all too often focus on hamburgers and chips, and less on foie gras.

Also, a lot of the discussion of this Alex James thing may have stumbled unfortunately into snobbery.

  • I'm no fan of McDonald's, but this is just snobbery. Lots of 'proper restaurants' serve absurdly unhealthy food. If you're cooking French food, if in doubt add huge quantities of cream, salt and cheese, and things will invariably turn out tasting like it was made with Michelin stars. And the link between processed meats and cancer, as I understand it, is to do with levels of nitrates, which is the preservative created by the traditional process of creating bacon and sausages.
