Fender American is mostly, I use that term loosely as many parts are still made overseas, "made in America", more like assembled in America. For example, Fender Standard HSS is $449 at GC, made in Mexico. Fender American Standard HSS is $999-$1149. So what's the justification for the price difference? Same guitar, just made in a different country.

Look at Apple, they make the iPhone in Chinese factories where workers throw themselves to their deaths on a regular basis in order to try to escape that slave-wage life by any means possible. And yet, they are still charging extremely high prices for something that cost pennies to make. You notice how the Chinese forced the workers to look after each other rather than say, improve their working conditions or even allowing them to walk away? Why not let Americans make iPhones?

What's your take on holding companies? One good example is Halliburton which for a time had practically monopolized the oil services industry. Then you have Bain Capital, of which Mitt Romney is part owner of. They practically own all of the online musical instrument retailers, such as the heavyweights like Guitar Center and Musicians Friend. Then all of their subsidiaries collude with each other to keep the prices fixed. What you pay for a Les Paul at one, you pay the same at the others.

@PalemoonSun Well to be honest?? You wont get a better deal on guitars than at those dealerships. Guitars are very pricey to make. And require a personal touch. But you are talking to someone who does it for a living. I haven't paid for a guitar in years. Fender and Gibson give me guitars all the time. I got a new 335 and a strat about 2 months ago

And you do realize that the vast majority of Fender guitars are made overseas right? Fender American is mostly, I use that term loosely as many parts are still made overseas, "made in America", more like assembled in America. And those cost significantly more than the Mexican versions. Why is that? My guess is, simple economics. ;o)

@PalemoonSun Lol where to start. Sure some are made over seas. Some wood is better over seas and easier to treat and cut before export. Necks bodies and such. Actually it is easier to make them here. Noone would play them at all if they weren't made with quality. Most guitars believe or not are not sold to beginners. And Ron Paul is a constitutionalist. Kucinch is for a lot of nanny state laws and entitlements. The only thing he is in agreement with me on is the Fed issue. Not enough togetmyvote

And sure, wood grows all over the world, some is better than others, that can be imported and then turned into a guitar by American craftsmen and be considered "Made in America." What I'm talking about, even the claimed "Made in America" are still using electronics from Taiwan or Japan, the wood might be shaped here and painted, but that's it. Then you gotta realize, labor in Mexico is much cheaper.

Stuff like Tarja, for example, or the old Nightwish. Or guitar playing like Kelly Johnson who is to me what Jimi Hendrix was to the guys. She was so incredible, lol. One guy I like that you might like is Buddy Guy. Now I can listen to him all night long cause you can feel it. Also Louis Bertignac is great.

And it goes back to what I was saying. Without that intervention, say AT&T fails, quite a lot of the USA suddenly is without phone service. Then what happens? Allow an outside party to come in and buy it all up, strengthening their monopoly? Or disallow that and have lots of little companies (i.e. small business) step in and take over? But it all ends up repeating over time with successive buyouts after the small businesses start competing with each other.

Our system, unfortunately, is designed to be beholden to the corps. Look at the Supreme Court ruling on that recently. Money = free speech now. Remember?

As far as Keynesian Theory, you have to realize that was proposed for a very narrow reason, to avert another Great Depression, or other economic collapse. Both sides, in terms of American right/left, have ascribed to it at various times. In a truly free market, corps would be allowed to rise and fall without intervention.

The reason I mentioned the water rights, has to do with that snake oil salesman known as T. Boone Pickens who has already bought up hundreds of thousands of acres of water rights in the US. Why? He probably claims diversification. But it's all about the money. And don't think you can get away with having well water. You still have to pay because you've tapped into his water supply. It's actually a very captive market, seeing that you are limited in what you can buy, or not. Sure, you still have a choice, but the choice is limited because of all of the monopolies and buy outs. Like my phone and cable service. I have to choose AT&T, or no phone service. Same with cable, only one choice.

I know these issues backwards and forwards. In all of my studies I have found the most viable for freedom and the highest standard of living is Austrian economics (Mises) in particular. In many ways it is socialism lite. No Reagan simply worked within the flawed system to give tax relief to businesses and to rich as incentives to stimulate growth and it did work. But sure, he made both good and bad decisions at times, much like any other President. I just dislike how he's referred to as the "greatest" by the very GOP that plotted a coup against him.
