@cinemacowgirl Well actually Hanna Chang did do a recording of this marvelous concerto. It IS on iTunes, so just search up "hanna chang shostakovich" and you should get an album with the cello concerto, along with the Shostakovich Cello Sonatas.
Send all my love to Hanna, who is the only person this master piece so beautifully.
I'm sure that if shostakovich had listened to this performance, he would have felt in love with this a gifted young lade and appreciated for her amazing performance that gives a life to this piece.
Good point. I love han na chang and yo yo ma is ok but, the only difference between him and her is that I don't get any goose bumps from yo yo ma when I hear him playing. Han na, on the other hand, gives me chills every time. Han na is just a god's bless for the humanity.
Jaeshim, have you listened to Yo yo's 80's recording of this? The entry that hanna comes in on this part is mind bogglingly beautiful on his recording. I don't get that same sense here, though that's maybe because she thinks of it differently?
u guys r drove...anywas ur amazing han na chang....perfect...nobody can deni that...i love shostakovich....really like a bunch of seperate nightmares in a relm far from here....great intonation aswel...ove ya gurl
I'd like to explain myself on some comments earlier on this thread. I misread some of the comments and misunderstood - I apologize to anyone who takes it a seriously as some have.
Of course anyone who spells cellist "celeste" should probably keep their comments to themselves. Too bad that he/she was talking about the CELESTE player, not the CELLIST, so I don't see a problem.
I think someone who is too musically retarded to know that a celeste is a totally separate instrument probably doesn't know enough about music to make a comment against the person who obviously knows what they are talking about. Ignorance shows easily for those who are unaware of their own ignorance.
I've heard so many wrong words for cellist and seen so many bad spelling for cello. You would not even believe. I have apologized for this, I acted rashly. Is there any more need for this?
Este concierto es muy bueno, era totalmente desconocido para mi pero ahora que lo escucho me he dado cuenta de lo que me he perdido. Ella realmente es muy buena!!

OKAY, to clear up this whole riot, I'm gonna say this.
CELESTE is a total different instrument from the CELLO.
THANK YOU. :]
Hanna Chang is my inspiration to get me pumped to start practicing.

This 3rd part it's the better in my opinion.
I love how she plays with all her energy, she is aprt of her cello, it's so wonderful !
But I prefer Rostropovitch

lol she's sweating. :P
SaiyanPrince339 3 years ago
Is there a problem with sweating when it's from her efforts of musicality wise?
ROFLMFAOMG 2 years ago 3
well not at all, mr. quarrelsom. :P just an obvious observation. beautiful music is obviously the result of her sweat.
SaiyanPrince339 2 years ago
I've been listening this for so many times... I love this so much. Great horn-solos, by the way.

Man, the timpani was early on that big note.. or the conductor has bad taste in artistic freedom.
hesingshesobs 3 years ago
Big note?
Avada10 3 years ago
I had the same feeling... just a bit too early. But overall, the performance is so good, it's hard to quibble.

If any one says that is bad you try doing that! It's not easy ;]

The celeste player played a wrong note.
zwolftonmusik 4 years ago
Who cares? She played with amazing emotion and did not let any mistakes stunt her playing. That's what makes a musician great.

The celeste is a keyboard instrument that sounds similar to wind chimes. The celeste player is playing against the cellist starting at 5:01.

@shnorczech Celeste doesn't sound anything like wind chimes! It sounds more like a glockenspiel played with soft mallets.

I'm a cello player but- what's a celeste??? I've never heard of it... TT It seems pretty obvious that it's not a cello... but still. What is it?
StupidUchihas 2 years ago
the celeste is the thing from the nutcracker suite, dance of the sugar plumb fairy
munkybrain 2 years ago
A celeste is like a piano, except it rings bells, instead of hammering strings.
