Okay. Here it is. Avril had a HUGE (and still does) fanbase in Japan, she sells more albums there than here in the U.S. Tommy did the video/song in question as an homage to Avril. There's nothing wrong with her copying Avril in the classy way she did. Tommy has her own thing going on, but yes, for a period she was paying homage to Avril in both musically and stylistically. On the other hand, Avril Lavigne has been solo for her entire career. She started out as a folk singer and only after she was discovered had a backing band.

So the styles are entirely different. There is no comparison.
