Hey Pete are you gonna show us how to finish up the motorcycle fender, i'm working on a bike fender as well and was wondering about the guide coat and finish sanding part of it, thanks man I watch a shitload of your videos you are a great teacher...well minus a few f bombs....lol
i just dont understand it.i also have a watertrap on my compressor.is it possable the water can still get into the air line?looking faward to some advice from some of you guys thanks.it would be much appreciated
@damiensherry get an inline water filter that attaches to your spray gun, they are usually orange in color, round in shape, they are throw away items, it's a water/oil trap that will save your ass. You can purchase these at your local paint and body shop supply store. Good luck. Pete
pete maybe you can help me out.ive been spraying for a few years on and off.just the odd bike.but i keep getting the same problem.the paint comes up in blisters even when i heat the room good.it seems to happen more with metalic paint rather than paint and hardener.my surfaces are perfectly prepared ant my primer sanded down with p600.could the heat cause it to do that if it was too warm in the room?im in ireland and the air can be very damp here.but the blow heater should sort that out.
@monoseb Very Little. I just can't seem to get used to using them, Im a Binks #7 guy, call me old fashion. I use them but not that much.. Take it easy Pete
This video really helped - thanks. I guess a tip to anyone learning to paint is to go to a salvage yard and get a good sized metal panel, about 3'x6', and prep and spray that. Whatever mistakes you make will be made on that panel. I've even tested rustoleum and primers on my panel to see it's effects. You can also dent the metal panel and try your metal /bondo skills on it as well. The panel I used looks like it came from some large steel shelves so it was perfect to practice.
Not everyone gets those mixing cups for free Pete.....if I just threw them away everytime I used one, I'd pitch 4 or 5 a day...at $3 each thats $75 aweek, $300 a month,$3600 a year. $300 will get me 25 gal of lacquer thinner.....I use 50 gal of lacquer thinner a year....so by cleaning and reuseing I save myself $3,000 every year.....Only thing I get free from my paint supplier is sticks and strainers.
That does seem to be the case for almost everything, the no money or low paying jobs are quite often the long drawn out pain in the ASS projects ! FREEBEE'S are the worst !
Thanks Pete. I always use a strainer too. They are cheap insurance to prevent a serious problem. Nothing like the gun getting clogged in the middle of something and you having to stop and tear the thing down and clean it out. So you are wet sand your primer from this point, is that to keep from clogging up the paper so bad with the guide coat, or is it just this fender is straight enough that you know it's pretty much ready to block out once and paint?
thanks for the advice pete i realy appreciate it.i like the way you take time to answer everyones questions.
