it was the easiest decision to make as Barak Obama is the only candidate that made any sense.. McCain & Palin only chance of winning is by inciting hatred and fear into there supporters.. they sound like the Bush's Administration, terror, terrorism, terrorists..sounds familiar doesn't it??
Obama is a Marxist plain and simple. We dont need a cult-of-personality tyrant like Castro in America. By the way, why are Obama's friends always anti-American? Father Flager, Rev. Wright, William Ayers, Bernadette Dorn, and on and on. Christ, I have lots of friends and NONE of them are anti-American. Again, WHY ARE OBAMAS FRIENDS AMERICA-HATERS? What does that say about the true Obama beyond his silky speeches? As Aretha Franklin (and perhaps Ben, too) once said, "THINK!"
Absolutely no surprises here. Lewis is just doing what the majority of other black Americans are doing...saying anything that will ensure Obama's election. Obama's candidacy has never been about issues such as the economy, foreign relations and so on. It has been, is, and will always be about RACE. That is a FACT. When will the public realize that black Americans are OBSESSED with matters of race? It is their reason for being. It is the mucilage that binds them. Lewis' comments PROVE that. Fool.
u obviously dont know the type of person Congressman Lewis is. He wanted racial equality, he suffered for racial equality, and he bled for racial equality. so y would he do anything that would go against that. cuz he looked at what he believed and he believed that obama was a better choice than Hilary. He loves the Clintons but Obama brought change and that is something we needed. He said it was a harder decision cuz Hilary and Obama were both great canidates and friends. Do your research first
Utter rubbish. Lewis, Colin Powell, Maxine Waters, Charles Rangel and the entire litany of black politicians voted for Obama because of race and race alone. That is the only reason to have voted for a person with no experience, no understanding of national politics, and virtually no substabtive accomplishments of any sort. You voted for change. Then you got it: out of control spending, an economy that is imploding, emboldened enemies, socialism, and race-based decision-making at every level.
I wonder if u even know Congressman Lewis and the type of person he is and was even at a young age. If u know the type of things- based on race-he went through u would not b questioning his motives. If u knew the type of things he did for human kind and the type of values he holds, u would know that race is not an issue.
I doubt you understand what you have written. You have proven my point. Yolu have painted Lewis as someone who is utterly obsessed with, consumed by, and defined on the basis of race. You share the same views as I. This man, and most blacks in American society, define themselves on the basis of race. That is their yardstick in life againsgt which the value of all others is measured. It is NOT about accomplishment or character. It WAS, IS, and WILL ALWAYS BE about RACE. You KNOW it, for sure.
Furthermore, painting this man and all the other cast of hucksters and race-baiters as some type of saints to be forever worshipped is bullshit. They are not the pinnacle of American sacrifice and American virtue. Granted what they at one time had to endure was terrible. But that is ancient history. It is long gone. It is over. U.S. blacks love to keep the hatred and guilt alive. It is the mucilage that binds them together. Even with shared hated of whitey, they still slaughter
If u think racism is long gone I am deeply sorry to inform u r wrong. I have been to the South + seen the grave of James Chaney whose life was taken by KKK while he was working for SNCC + Congressman Lewis to end racism. There was supposed to b picture inscribed into the headstone of Chaney put there by his family. But intead there was an empty hole the last time they had tried to replace it was just 2 years but racists kept on removing it until they just couldn't afford 2 replace it anymore.
In case u r saying to yourself "Well that just the South". I also know a teacher of mine whose brother is a Jewish CA Senator and there were some violence going around in Sacremento against Jews and when they caught the guy they found pictures of Sen. Steinberg on the wall of his house. As much as would love to believe and have hope that racism is over I am well aware that it still exists. Furthermore Congressman John Lewis is a role model on how to endure racism with out hate, but with love.
Yes, you are quite right on one point. Blacks are the most vocal, vehement, violent and venomous racists in America. But, what can you expect from a group that defines themselves principally on a small, asnd ever-shrinking, segment of American history. I suggest that you and others who can just not get past your hatred attempt to shake down the descendants of the European slave traders who actually transported them here. Try that in a court of international law and see what happens.
You seem like a nice, intelligent and sincere young lady with a strong sense of conviction. I admire that greatly. However you are wasting your time and energy pursuing an ideology that has been, for at least 40 years, essentially deceased. You should stop searching for reasons to some of your life's disappointments through the looking-glass of class and race imabanlce. You achieve nothing of substance except an unending cycle of insatiable bitterness. Think about it.
Thank u 4 your admiration + compliments given to me.But I think u misunderstand me being aware 4 bitterness.I will admit I am disappointed sometimes with the human race + how we generally chose 2 hate ppl, but I am not bitter about that. In fact I wanto to bring back the ideology of nonviolence -in physical + verbal ways- that was brought to light during the Civil Right Movement by MLK.All I am saying is that I THINK-based on the way he talked to me- Lewis's decision is not based on race at all.
I gonna support Barack Obama over Hillary..he's black, she's white. Apart from the fact that she blows him out of the water experience-wise, he's still black....That's my decision, and I'm sticking to it! (By the way, race - something I NEVER talk about - has only about 99% to do with my decision.......
His decision to march in Selma went against the beliefs of some of his SNCC coworkers, but was well in keeping with his personal moral and religious beliefs. To not march would almost have been impossible for him. So he did probably spend more time weighing Clinton v. Obama.
This is sad. This is an example of the slave mentality. How dare he cheapen the sacrifice of the people who risked their lives during that march just to cover his political behind with the Clintons. I am ashamed for him. Please don't tell me that this is what the civil rights era leadership has come to. Please don't tell me that this Step-n-Fetch bit of minstrelsy is what is left of Lewis. I am very ashamed for him. And this has nothing to do with racial loyalty. Represent the people. So sad.
dendritez, John Lewis voted democracy. For the longest time, Hillary had no competition for the nomination. Of course he backed her. But Lewis' district voted differently. He had to make a tough decision.
Actually the decision should not have been tough for him, because Hillary is shady.
I'm supporting Barack cause he's black & old black people like myself hate white people. You see i've been friends with the Clintons for yrs to get ahead in life but if i can get a nigga in da WHITE House, then shit, i'm all in.
Black super delegates are not having a change of heart for a winner as media is touting.
"African-American superdelegates are being targeted, harassed and threatened," said Rep. Emanuel Cleaver II (D-Mo.), a superdelegate who has supported Clinton since August. Cleaver said black superdelegates are receiving "nasty letters, phone calls, threats they'll get an opponent, being called an Uncle Tom.
Will somebody. Please wish this sorry ass nigga out of human existence. If the KKK came around he probably would help them out with his own lynching, stupid ass grahm cracker.
He got his head beaten in ...face covered in blood!!! But it was easier? ?Hell give him the N.P AWARD( NIGGA PLEASE!!!!)spoken like a true Uncle Tom lol
Lewis is lying through his teeth here. The reason he double-crossed the Clinton campaign was because he was pressured by the Obama campaign. Black superdelegates that support Hillary are being threatened with losing their congressional seats. Tell the truth, Congressman Lewis.
I'm glad Congressman Lewis FINALLY got over his agony and switched his vote for Obama (since 80% of us in the 5th District voted for him). BUT the way he did it -- was it necessary to say that it was easier to be beat in the head in Alabama in the 60's than to cast this vote for Senator Obama? Is it really that difficult to embrace the one elected official that represents HOPE for a nation consumed with despair?
Good grief! Its time that the Gentleman from Georgia come back home & retire!
Ain't that some silly shit? I mean why would a black person ever support another black person because there black. I mean they have nothing in common. I'm just Glad this is the year 2008 and not 1964. Just imagine if they still couldn't vote. This would not be an issue...
Pathetic bastard giving into the threats the Obama campaign has encouraged. Is this the "new direction" Obama is talking about. Is this the "silly old politics" that Americans are tired of Mr. Obama? Just pathetic. As a black man, I am very upset at this. I feel we are moving back several decades of black equality. Damn it.
HonkyScott I can see where you got your pin name. I feel very sorry for Rep. Lewis and I don't believe this was an easy choice for him. Most of the African American Congressmen and women are aware the Clinton's have been good friends but they are under a lot of pressure to change their votes. I really find your language offensive and it has no place in the Democratic Party. I am a very strong supporter of Sen. Cliton and I know it would offend her also.
Fortunately the country will stay comfortably Republican for the next four years, because the Democrats cannot seem to nominate anyone close to the center of the political spectrum. American's were not Fonda Kerry, but B. Hussein Obama is Karl Rove's dream come true. Thank you, DNC.
These politicians mock you and your political stupidity. They laugh at you at there fancy cocktail party's with there rich donors. They know you will not take the few hours needed to realize what is really happening. They know you get your news from TV, and what you read on Yahoo, and think you are informed.
In fact they count on your ignorance and stupidity. The best slaves are the ones that believe they are free.
nwrhino Yes, he can change his vote and we have no right to question. Sen. Obama's campaign should say publicly they do not approve of the threats and pressure coming from his supporters targeting African American Congressmen and women.

I just saw a story of black superdelegates being intimidated to go with Obama. Threatening to campaign against their future aspirations. If this is true, it is very sad. Keep race and gender out of it, being judged on CONTENT OF CHARCTER is what Dr. King wanted. I belive he would be very upset with the race baiters of this era.
I read that article and a rebuke to it as well. It seems as if some of that is coming from Republican groups who are hoping to prolong the democratic primary contest. Thats still just a informed speculation however. Thanks for posting.
From what I heard Democrat superdelegates have said that they have been intimidated by Obama supporters. Of course, they are all fighting for the nomination. And politicians are all capable of underhanded tactics. Why do you blame republicans for everything negative? As if Democrat leaders are infallable. Truth is its probably not the campaigns theirselves but their unaffiliated supporters. Still its sad.
Never thought about that, but that makes sense. This is just so pathetic and such a slam to the what we blacks have accomplished. I can't believe he would give into the threats and intimidation that the Obama campaign has encouraged...and as far as I know....started. Pathetic!
WHat a phony! HE had to change his mind to try to save his JOB! But the people in his district already have someone to remove him from his position. It was hard to make the mistake and choose Billary and realize all your chips were spent. He'll be a NOBODY now. 80% of the people in his district votes for Barack and he still didn't change his mind so the people have already found someone to remove him. Later DUDE.
it's so sick that you could say something like that about Hillary just b/c she's running against a black man. Obama supporters are unbelievable fanatics.
Question? Since you love Hilary Clinton so much. Did you do any research on her, her supporters or financial advisors...
If you don't research. Then there can never be a debate about somebody you know nothing about. Hilary Clinton lost support based on her association to military organizations that murder and take land from the Indigenous ppl of throughout the World.
How can the decission be hard, is what this is about. The truth can be many things, so we its only guessing. I will blame the interviwer for that. However, i truly believe that this guy is afraid, he seems scared of something, he maybe wouldnt take about either. As he refers "THEM" to, as friends etc, must only be understood, in the form of breaking up with them, - they will prob dislike this man now, and lesser his powers if i may. However, he seems to be waking up, Doctor RonP > Obama though.
If John Lewis were to continue to support Hillary rather than Barack Obama, John Lewis would be voting against the will of the vast majority of his constituents here in the state of Georgia.
Is this guy one of the super delegates of his state? Is he making the decision to switch from supporting Clinton to supporting Obama for that reason? Somebody explain.
Did Obama promised Jesse Jackson the secretary of state job, and Al Sharpton also a seat in his cabinet along with Louis Farrakhan
I will not vote for him if this is true
Remember Cassius Clay who waited until after he became world champion to change his name to Muhammad Ali and tell the world he was a Black Muslim. Maybe Obama will do the same
not like either one makes a difference:) Both CFR and New World Order agenda! Getting people as ONE! IF you are not voting for Ron Paul or Nader or someone outside the askissing establishment. Your vote is for selfdestruction!
mitchelbluesband, oh please. The pressure came from Obama's side and the black community. NOt the other way around. That's why he feels so bad about it. *she says as if she knows him* hahaha
this prick doesn't Salute our flag watch the Vidseo Below! I am pissed! Not to mention he has participated in Muslim rituals! United States Of America! Take a good look at ObamaX and his unpatriotic wife Obamarosa!
lukew643, the Armed Forces Committee. And, I can't know if this has real value, but Madeline Albright says that Hillary understands how things work in both branches of government because she's been in the White House and the Senate and that give her a unique type of experience. Take that how you want, but Madeline Albright is credible in my book.
please add a bit of factual information to this post. what threats are we talking about?? what power does Barack Obama, junior senator of illinois have over John Lewis?
Why can't he just stay quiet, like Al Gore and many, many other Democrats, if the Clintons mean so much to him and are like extended family? What a knife in the back.
John Lewis realize the truth about Hillary and decided to make the right decision!! I give him much respect because that was lots of pressure on his part!! He stands up for the truth
JohnMichaels, when you write crap like, "he is ONLY supporting on his race," what exactly are you talking about? Momentum is with Obama and the party leadership want someone at the top of the ticket who will help the others on that same ticket to win. Most of Obama's endorsements prior to the 11 primary/caucus sweep came from Red State Democrats. Chris Dodd also endorsed Obama. You take a Political decision and try to turn it into a racial one. Maybe the only thing YOU can see is "race."
Quizzic, are you talking to me? It's on the Real Politics website. You'll know the article when you see the title. Plus, they reported on this on MSNBC today.
Point out the fact that they are being pressured by the people in their districts NOT by the Obama campaign. The districts of these black politicians went over 80% for Obama. Many of them feel that their superdelegate vote should reflect the will of the people that they represent not whatever political ties that they have with the Clinton family.
Hillary seems like a pretty good person, but if you listen to her and are aware of what she has done it becomes obvious that she is a BS politician and human being. It must be a leadership and character thing. If she just did not vote for the war and was not on the big money dole. She knows about all the really bad stuff and only pretends to care. Otherwise she would be good. She probably believes she has integity, but the people she spends time with are like that too.
I have no idea why the party's split. In the beginning, we were blessed with a field of qualified, worthy candidates, and now as the end approaches, we are on the brink of nominating the least qualified one. Kirk Watson has proved that we know nothing about the man. I just don't see how it's gone this far. We know nothing about Obama's past, nor his accomplishments: all we can verify is that he is charismatic, and makes us feel good. What insight does this provide us about his political ability?
explain what we know of any of our field of candidates?
I would answer my question with this: they are liberal democrats. Their policies are deeply similar. Their attitudes run parallel with only slight deviations.
Now, what does hillary's extra 6 years on capitol hill give her exactly? please do not bring up her white house experience. In which she involved herself in a failed national health care effort. That is not leadership.
I like Hillary, but the experience thing doesn't work
this is so WONDERFUL, I have been truly sad at the contempt and ill heart of Hillary & God does not like the ugliness, I am happy that you support a man (not a black man) but a man of dignity that has not retaliated & has kept his poise, HOW DOES BARACK DO THAT, this is the quality of a LEADER, not hillary a bitter woman up & down like a yoyo, no consistancy. And she too takes words of others that is the IRONY of one who cant see their own faults. BARACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!
Yea, but if you want your Freedom vote Ron Paul. The US dollar just hit a historic low, 17 million empty homes in the states, Iraq war no end in sight. Do you think there's a reason obama voted for the various Nazis laws ie Victory Act ??? Where does he stand on the Federal Reserve ??? If you don't see the disaster coming your way, you are in a state of denial. Its going to be absolute chaos...
Hillary's campaign is in full meltdown mode. You could see it on her face and her emotional reactions to questions early in last night's debate. And now this. It must be devastating. The leadership in the party is telling her to get out so that the party can unify and win in November. This is no longer about Obama, it is about Hillary's lack of viability and the destructive role that her blind ambition is playing for the Democrats' chances to win in November.
That is the saddest thing I have watched in a long time..Can you imagine the pressure that was brought upon this man for this vote switch...I hope for all your sakes it was worth it.
Having read some of the comments from others about this decent man, I am glad I am not part of this campaign. Sad state of affairs we are in, this party is split right down the middle.

I am very disappointed with my Black community. We have (80%) are blindly supporting a neophyte candidate over one of the most talented and experienced candidates this nation has seen in a long time (Hillary Clinton). We are doing this at one of the most crucial times in our nation's history. Most of us are doing so only because Barack is black. We are throwing the Clintons overboard. Shame on you Black America. The Clintons have given their hearts and souls fighting for the disenfranchised.
timmy, you seem to have swung dramatically on this statement. your previous post supporting hillary was one thing, but suggesting the country will be subjected to "something worse then Bush" is just silly.
why are you a hater? malcolm x spoke about the thinking you are inclined to...Hillary is being supported by that racist bill cunningham...how can you be in that camp??
heyiambo90 Why don't you tell me where you information comes from? It is not helpful to make up stories. Sen. Clinton would not accept the support of a right wing racist any more than Sen. McCain accepted his help. Obama was reluctant to refuse the support of Luis Farakan and he is anti-semitic in his comment's. Sen Obama also needs to reject his supporters who send threatening emails to the African American supporters of Sen. Clinton before someone gets hurt.
Bill Clinton's welfare reform signed into law 8/22/96 threw more poor people into the streets than any republican dared dream of. Many were black. Clinton took illegal campaign contributions from the Chinese and signed waivers allowing them to get most of our classified technology (chinagate). People have short memories. A Clinton appointed judge is the only reason Hillary is not getting released from prison right now for campaign fraud in 2000.
"We are throwing the Clintons overboard. Shame on you Black America. The Clintons have given their hearts and souls fighting for the disenfranchised."
Is this a joke? Clintons campaigned on a "Marshall Plan for the Cities" to get Black votes and abandoned it as soon as they got power. Didn't lift a finger in 8 years to issue executive order to stop racial profiling. Forced the UN not to stop genocide in Rwanda. Let Haitians drown at sea, and more...

You are mistaking President .Bill Clinton not President Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton is a true heart a lover of what is right. Barack is a master manipulator and is saying and doing exactly what he believe will give people a false since of hope to get him elected. If elected he will be worst that GW Bush. I say this in love. In eight years he will be ready not until then.
First you say we will get something worse then Bush, which I imagine you think would be pretty BAD. Then you say ("in love") that he will be ready in 8 years.
this is inconceivable. How could a man who would right now be worse then the criminal tyrant that is Bush somehow not be bad at all in 8 years time.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think GW is a decent man at heart, but he was thrust into a job he was not ready or qualified for. He just had pure ambition, and the republicans loved him. Barack is headed down the same path. Remaining in the Senate for 8 years will help him earn the political capital he needs to be president. I wonder if he marched in any of the anti war marches during the war? NO! Its easy to take a stand when it doesn't cost you any thing.
Hmm, George W was just a nice guy. Who lied us into a war with iraq. Who cut taxes on billionaires while spending trillions on wars, much of it going to companies like Haliburton where Cheney had stock options. He just ignored all the warnings 9/11 would happen, while simultaneously wiretapping Americans BEFORE 9/11. Such a great guy, just overmatched.
timmylee4699, How the hell is Hillary Clinton more experienced as a politician and candidate to be President than Barack Obama??? Just because she says so in the debates? The truth is that Barack Obama has more experience than Hillary Clinton because he has been an elected official longer than she has. Barack became a state senator of Illinois back in 1997, so how is it that Hillary is more experienced than Barack when it comes to politics and law-making?
She has more than 35 years experience with national and international public policy and more importantly she knows how to get things done at the highest levels of government. This is called earned authority. She has endured the toughest of oppositions and criticism and yet she stands. Only those how are divinely inspired can endure what she does and still stand. But this is not new, societies often reject the best among them in favor of their base and petite desires.
Well, timmylee4699, tell me just one bill or law that Hillary got passed in congress during her "35 years of service" to this country. If you're just going by experience alone, you should have endorsed candidates like Bill Richardson, Dennis Kucinich, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd on the Democratic side and John McCain on the Republican side because they each have way more experience than Hillary Clinton's lying ass. The fact of the matter is that she lies too much and she's not even the President yet.
timmylee4699, I believe that every other candidate on both the Democratic and Republican sides have more experience than Hillary as elected officials who actually got laws initiated and passed in Washington or their own states.
Sorry She is loosing fair and square. Well maybe not she's using dirty politics and it all fell on her. She was also using bill to campaign for her and that's soft.
Sounds reasonable to me. The Selma march was the right thing to do, all he needed to do was screw up the courage.
Who we get as president is pretty critical right now, and as both Hillary and Obama are not clearly ideal candidates, its hard to know who will be best, and who to support.

So, everything that comes out of this guys mouth from now on is gospel? Can the same be said for Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton? To be lucking enough to have 2 friends running for president of the United States and having to choose between the 2 of them to support, meaning you'll have a friend that's probably going to be president of the United States, must really suck if facing water hoses, attack dogs, jail time, and possibly getting hung is easier. I'll stand by "retarded" on this one.
This man is truly morally indigent.

Schwarznasen 2 years ago

His decision to march in Selma went against the beliefs of some of his SNCC coworkers, but was well in keeping with his personal moral and religious beliefs. To not march would almost have been impossible for him. So he did probably spend more time weighing Clinton v. Obama.

HonkyScott I can see where you got your pin name. I feel very sorry for Rep. Lewis and I don't believe this was an easy choice for him. Most of the African American Congressmen and women are aware the Clinton's have been good friends but they are under a lot of pressure to change their votes. I really find your language offensive and it has no place in the Democratic Party. I am a very strong supporter of Sen. Cliton and I know it would offend her also.

What insight does this provide us about his political ability?
trackstar195 4 years ago

I would answer my question with this: they are liberal democrats. Their policies are deeply similar. Their attitudes run parallel with only slight deviations.
Now, what does hillary's extra 6 years on capitol hill give her exactly? please do not bring up her white house experience. In which she involved herself in a failed national health care effort. That is not leadership.

I think GW is a decent man at heart, but he was thrust into a job he was not ready or qualified for. He just had pure ambition, and the republicans loved him. Barack is headed down the same path. timmylee4699, How the hell is Hillary Clinton more experienced as a politician and candidate to be President than Barack Obama??? Just because she says so in the debates? The truth is that Barack Obama has more experience than Hillary Clinton because he has been an elected official longer than she has. Barack became a state senator of Illinois back in 1997, so how is it that Hillary is more experienced than Barack when it comes to politics and law-making?
MSH786 4 years ago
She has more than 35 years experience with national and international public policy and more importantly she knows how to get things done at the highest levels of government. This is called earned authority. She has endured the toughest of oppositions and criticism and yet she stands. Only those how are divinely inspired can endure what she does and still stand. But this is not new, societies often reject the best among them in favor of their base and petite desires.
timmylee4699 4 years ago

grazon 4 years ago
Well, timmylee4699, tell me just one bill or law that Hillary got passed in congress during her "35 years of service" to this country. If you're just going by experience alone, you should have endorsed candidates like Bill Richardson, Dennis Kucinich, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd on the Democratic side and John McCain on the Republican side because they each have way more experience than Hillary Clinton's lying ass. The fact of the matter is that she lies too much and she's not even the President yet.
