I am volunteering for FMF as soon as i finish A school. Right now i am a senior in high school. I am already contracted as a corpsman. I cannot wait to serve my country in the best way I know how.
@Tycoon:Don't know much about Ranger medics. Usually the needs of the unit come first. @Marleynr8: Being at a BAS is actually very critical and you will see more casualties there because that's where they all pass through. I always say that if I'm bored then that means it's a good day because no one got hurt. However, if you're a hard charger and want to go on patrol it's usually easy to volunteer providing you're squared away and not some dirtbag the Marines don't like or trust.
how do you get attached to a line company once you're FMF qual'd? i wouldnt want to be stuck at the BAS, and was wondering what things they look for for the docs going out on patrol attached to the unit.
Im an HM3 in FMTB (Field Medical Training Battalion) Camp Pendleton right now. been a corpsman for 2 1/2 years and I believe that being a Navy Corpsman is the best job in the world! HOORAH to all former, current and future DEVIL DOCS as well as our fallen brothers who gave the ultimate sacrifice!
@MindEXplorer22 Yeah man Buchanan is one of the best and does give a shit corpsman from your class. we graduated together. did you go to blueside or stayed green side?
@MrFuckyouintheneck You go wherever your Marines need you most. It may be out on patrol, or you may be stuck at a hospital. The needs of the Navy come first.
@MrFuckyouintheneck You will usually do a 2 year shore duty then a 2 year sea duty, and the sea duty can either be on a ship or with a deployable unit (Marine unit) and its the marine unit you are with that determines how often you get deployed, usually its 8 month deployments if im correct. also you can get pulled for a deployment while you are still on shore duty
No. An officer can be a medical officer if they have the qualifications but medical officers are never sent out on patrol. They usually stay at the BAS because the Corpsmen there operate under their medical license unless they are IDC's.
@silenceisaweapon101 LOL this doesnt make sense. but let me break it down officers are commision and coprsman are enlisted. so no you would have to pick one.
@silenceisaweapon101: Go corpsman first, if you can; you can always get your professional training (doctor, PA, nurse, whatever) and a commission later on. And, being an HM is very-well respected and looks good on an application to any of those schools. I myself am not a corpsman, but always wish I had been. I work some former HMs on the civilian side, and they are great, top-notch.
You want an idea of what FMF docs go through in battle? Read :On Call in Hell" by LCDR Richard Jadick, D.O.
@coltontd all HMs that went thru FMTB uses hoorah....yall learned oorah...n yeh i wear the HM shield on my left collar too right above the 8404 FMF device
@coltontd dont diss my fellow corpman. he can say hoorah, boorah, zoorah. we do what we want! mARINES HOORAH, OORAH, OURAH, ARAH, it all depends on what they were accustomed to or where they are at, what the majority say etc.
I attended FMSS in 1977. The uniforms have changed a few times since then but the young faces of new Devil Docs and their Marines look nearly the same. I served two active duty and a reserve tour with the Marine Corps. They were among the highlights of my career in the U.S. Navy. Semper Fi!
Cool video... it's funny though... I went through FMSS almost 20 years ago, and my pictures that I took could easily have been in your video...some things never change.... Hooyah! Stay safe!
Those of you that are going to FMF and Corpsman A school, remember that there have been many that have come before you that you will learn valuable lessons from, set the example for those corpsman that will follow you so they to can continue the tradition of excellence and courage of the Navy DEVIL DOC's.
yes, but these guys are assigned to an infantry unit, which is closed to women. you wont be SENT to a firefight, but you might get caught in a few. you wont see all the heavy fighting though. i know alot of marines, sailors, soldiers, and airmen. im joinin the marines when i graduate
yes, thank you for the info I know that women cant be assigned to infantry units but i just wanted to know if apart from that if they could still be FMF's in some other way
@theace1477 women can be go to FMTB she however cannot serve in an infantry marine unit... i beleive they can serve in the marine air wing though and shit like that
doc/HA Nesbit 1/24 infantry Marine Corps Reserves.
All I can say is I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than Corps School at Great Lakes. If you're heading to Camp Pendleton and if you're lucky you'll get Staff Sergeant Sanchez or Sergeant Turner as instructors. Those guys are great.
there used to be a video on here called FMTB Song...it got taken off a couple weeks ago and the guys that made it went to captains mast, but it described the training pretty well
you guys will hate it at first...but believe me once you get done with your training and you get attached to a unit you will love it...HM3 McCallister
