  • I've never heard of him playing in the US before. Has he gotten any media here? He totally deserves it. I hate that I've never listened to him before, because he sounds like someone I would have enjoyed listening to over the years.

  • can't fear fear, fear's the mind killer.

  • I just love this guy. This song was a soundtrack of the American invasion of Iraq for me. I would be watching the US Tanks rolling into Bagdad and be listening to this tune. The funning thing is that this video is just another version of what I said above.,

  • seriously i love this song..i can't get over the lyrics and how much it hits close to home. Matthew Good is a musical GOD and i can't wait for his show in Novemeber the 11th at the Shaw in Edmonton!! :D

  • The man IS pure talent.. I'm going to the Van show on Monday!! woot woot

  • hes into a lot of thing but all his song are a presage to the future if you listen to a lot of his song you could associate it with today events

  • truely one of my favorite songs, i love the ending, simple lyrics but so meaningful, i'm just a boat on the ocean, i'm just a ship lost at sea

  • i so agree those lyrics are amazing they could use these as the song chorus instead of a few lyrics at the end

  • This song makes me shiver... Woah.

  • Anyone know who did the artwork/animation for the video?

  • Art students from Sheridan College in Ontario, Canada.

  • Hey, Matt Good fans, check out my channel for the very first uploaded version of Vancouver, all 10 tracks + lyrics, 320 kbps stereo AAC!

    - Riku

  • great song , i def dont get the vid tho

  • LMAO so true.. chad kroeger thinks hes the best thing since sliced bread.. hes such a loser.

  • nickleback sucks donkey balls,Chads' voice is so annoying and they're less than mediocre

  • annnndddd judging by the burn it to the ground video, chad seems to have invested in a hair straightener.. How embarrassing.

  • Kinda reminds me of a Gurellaz video

    lol

  • EPIC SONG. EPIC VIDEO.

  • I really like Matt Good. Talk about a hidden gem. Love all his music!

  • remember when chad kroeger of nickleback insulted matt good?? i do. matt good has more talent in his toenail than nickelback will ever have. matt good is better than tragically hip. he is definitely the best music writer in canada. he shows so much emotion in his music. best canadian artist ever for sure

  • I dunno about the Hip, thats going over a little overboard.....

    but he is talented

  • fuck the hip , mgb all the way

  • Absolutely. He is a true "artist." I've never known a musician who could connect to something inside of me at the level he does with his music. It's his honesty and personal emotion he puts in it, which goes far beyond NB and the Hip.

  • the little bunny at the end kills me :(

  • Ohh... me too :(

  • My favorite Canadian by far...

  • Matthew Good/MGB is a testament to the more than stellar state of Canadian Music.

  • LOL,

the advert on the right on my browser is for Front Sight - Firearms Training Institute..

  • This is absolutely one of Matt's best songs to date. The soaring vocals, the raw emotional buildup at the end... everything is perfect. A wonderful piece.

  • I honestly think he has gotten better. Avalanche was great. White Light... was ok. But hospital music was great too.

  • mm amazing

  • This is a good album. Id reccomend Hospital Music to anyone who hasnt heard that album yet. It took me a bit to get into that, but theres a few songs I cant get enough of. Im A Window, Black Helicopter and Born Losers

  • I'm definitely going to have buy Avalanche when I get a chance. This is the second song I know of from that album that I really like. The other is "Weapon."

  • Check out the title track. Its epic. :P

  • Get it, now! Avalanche is amazing from beginning to end

  • House of smoke and mirrors is good.

  • ... could recite a Matthew Good song.

  • I imagine at least one women here ..

  • He is the best Canadian Musician !!! EVER!!

  • him and neal young

  • Matthew Good should be considered one of the greatest Canadian musicians ever. Way underrated.

  • I'd say he's just about the best Canadian song writer since Neil Young.

  • This song is honestly one of the most beautiful songs ever made. Reminds me of living in Poco driving home "The Morning after the Party" thanks for posting!!!!

  • haha that is so funny"While We Were Hunting Rabbits" but i must say it is 1 pretty good song just sort of....... i can't think of a word for it.....

  • This song is actually about communism...?

The cartoon style is very eastern european.

  • this is one of my most favorite Matt Good songs... so moving.. so emotional.. just fucking beautiful....amazing.. i lOVE Avalanche.. the whole album is amazing.. I've met matt like three times and he was laid-back yet courteous each time.. I love him...

  • Matthew Good is really good :)

  • I can't express just how much I adore this song

  • Beyond Measure. 10 stars

  • his best.

  • good lyrics.

this song will always remind me of summer 08

  • It's a really deep and moody song. Very honest and personal for Matt Good to have written it the way that he did, too. He even compares himself to a monkey who dances on command. I can't imagine a video that would have fit this song better.

  • man this video is haunting, does anyone know what this style of animation is called? It reminds me a lot of Gorillaz music videos.

  • I believe the video itself was done by college students at an Ontario, Canada art school/college. Not sure what you'd call this type of art, though.

  • the colledge is sheridan in oakville canada

  • Me encanta. Sí, es cierto... La puedo escuchar cientos de veces que no me canso. Great song for any moment

  • ahahahaaaa

  • I'd accidentally discovered something about this song. Despite the title of the song, whatever you do... do not sing this in an Elmer Fudd voice. Completely changes the context of the song at the chorus.

  • LMAO!

    "While we weh hunTiing WAbitts"

    I smiled just picturing that.

  • I tend to agree.

  • I really like this song, however, this video is a little disturbing. It's too bad they cut off the very end of the song, it is really beautiful. Does anyone have any idea what this song is about? War? Peace? Hate? Love? huh?

  • I believe it is about his experience in the MGB and his transition to a Solo Artist. Essentially it is about his frustration with playing off his public persona that had developed in the MGB.

In an interview he said, "'"When Audio of Being came out, I was at the end of my rope with it all. I felt like I was playing a role that everyone else wanted me to play but me. I just couldn't do it any more. I was stuck in a rut. It had to change."

  • Thanks for the info! And Matthew Good does rock, or rox... :)

  • i just love the way he sings, he makes real advantage of his voice. also how theirs chidlren singing in the background

  • love the that unfamiliar beat in the background,.. not sure what it is but its cool.

  • I love it when he says, "I'm just a boat on the ocean."

  • i love this song, best song on that album

  • best song ever, suburbia, then this, then strange days

  • YES!!! I AGREE 100%.

  • The sheer atmosphere created in this song is incredible, he really needs to write more songs like these. Undoubtedly one of his best songs.

  • BEST SONG ON AVALANCHE!

  • Theres no band like matthew good, awsome

  • Too bad this was on his first solo record :/

  • I definitely think his new music is much more intimate. More intimate with its listeners, and with Matt. 'Hospital Music' for example... SO powerful!

His old stuff was good, yes... But his new stuff is phenominally advanced. Both awesome, in my opinion.

  • What a powerful song. Matt's in a class by himself - especially when he sings with a lot of emotion. I can't believe I've still never seen him live. I'm an idiot.

  • you are an idiot for not seeing him live.... i have seen him twice and thats not enough

  • I've seen him once in a show of MAYBE 700 people. It was awesome. Not enough times though, that's a given. This song is easily my favorite song by him of all time.

  • Awesome track and video.

Buying this album. Nuff Said. :)

  • he is playing in Oshawa ON in June at Le Scratch (sp?). Check out his website for how to get tickets

  • have you even HEARD avalanche? (rhetorical question) sure it's not the same sound-wise, as the stuff matthew good band have produced, but in terms of quality, it's definetely on par. avalanche is probably one of the most flawless albums I have heard in a while.

  • yes i have the avalance album, no i havent actually sat down and listened to it through and through but, maybe i will, its just it seems alot more mellow then wut he use to put out. but ill give it a listen for sure.

  • yeah, it's definetely a lot more mellow than matt good band stuff, but it's still pretty amazing...good for when you're in the mood for something more "mellow and deep"..haha.

so for sure give it another listen!

  • He's evolved as an artist, which isn't a bad thing. Would get pretty boring if he just stayed the same and did the same ol'.

His latest stuff is very raw and powerful. It's his best as far as I'm concerned and for those who long for the "old" Matt Good - give it a chance. Seriously, true fans of his music will appreciate the direction he's gone in.

  • Matthew Good fuckin' rules I'm proud to say he's Canadian

  • One of my favourite songs by Matthew Good...too bad there's a distortion in sound in this vid.

  • I myself am seeing Matthew Good in Hamilton, Ontario, June 6th. This will be my third concert that I have been to, he is fucking awesome live.

  • dude i'm going to see him in montreal on May 30th. Isn't he fucking amazing live???!!!

  • amazing video.

  • Seeing Matthew Good and his band in Kingston ON on May 31st :D

  • TORONTO DATES?????

  • May 29th at Massey Hall

  • My favorite band, seing them in June in Winnioeg and saw them in 2001 in Windosr, Ontario. Awsome live!

  • This song is amazing... i cant explain how amazing Matt Good's music is. Absolutely phenomenal. Been listening to his History Teacher music. Also fantastic. Agreed on the best Canadian musician ever.

  • whats his history teacher music?

  • Demos from before his first album that were released without his permission.

Google History Teacher demos by Mattew Good for more information

  • History teacher music is his music he made before he was well known. It is not like any of his other music. All of the songs have a unique aspect to them. Very good.

  • The vocals in this song and the build up to the end truly need no visual. This is a song you close your eyes and let it take you away. Simply beautiful.

  • probally his best vocal performance.. just amazing. best canadian musician of all time

  • Videos like this are why Matthew Good is my fav singer

  • Um NO, new government in the west is needed.......

  • This song is classic, probably one of Matt's best ever, so emotional and beautiful. The video is excellent aswell. I want a shirt that has a picture of the monkey twisting the lever, that would be so awesome.

  • Er... ok guys, some of these comments are getting crazy. The guy's a truly talented and excellent singer, songwriter. There's nothing quite like him out there... 'sent from god??'

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU ON ABOUT, griffin83??!

Yeah, his voice soars along the music seamlessly, his songs are very well produced and mixed... if he wasn't a manic depressive... I bet his music wouldn't be as emotive and hard hitting.

  • Iceland has Bjork. We have Matt. It's the best thing Canada will produce musically.

  • When Matt sings "I'm a boat on the ocean, I'm just a ship lost at sea..." I get goose bumps. This man's voice seems to be sent from heaven...

  • Wicked! Btw... did this ever make release as a single? Or as a video at least on like Much or whatever?

  • no, the video was released on the In a Coma deluxe edition on the video disc, so it was never released as single for Avalanche. As for much music? I have no idea if they have ever played this song.

  • is it just me, or is mat god?

  • i hope not or i'll have to become religious.lol.

  • EllerySneed did u shorten the song or is this another version.

  • I'm pretty sure the video made cut off the good 2 minutes or so of the violen.

  • I love this song; downloaded it last night.

  • thanks for your response, but I was actually talking about the video itself. I have all his albums, but I have never seen this video. was it made for the song, or did you just put the song over this video?

  • It's on the In A Coma DVD.

  • thanks, that's what I figured. one more reason to go out and get that. is it available in the states?

  • is this the video that came with the song? is it from in a coma? it's a haunting video...

  • no.. its from his first solo album called avalanche... i dont think it was released as a single or anything.. but yeah its the same albym as "weapon" and "in a world called catastrophie".. its a killer song

  • this is one of my fav matt good songs. the guy is pure genius.

  • this song

    is

    DA BOMB

  • Ya its Matt Good...of course it is.

  • i know

    thats why i said it

  • good shit

  • u think this song is good.. listen to tripoli or advertising on police cars, or under the influence by matt good.. way better

  • Anyone else think the mad scientist looks a lot like Rex Murphy?

  • Matthew Good is my favorite musician ever. His lyrics have touched my heart so much. It's weird, but throughout my life so filled with confusion, anger and depression his music has made me feel like I wasn't so alone.

O.K. that's deep, let's just say Matt totally rocks!!!

"I'm just a boat on the ocean, I'm just a ship lost at sea."

  • Have you ever met the man (in response to 99435fghf)? He's brilliant and very courteous with his fans. He's just a regular guy who happens to be a rockstar. Don't go passing judgment on people you don't understand.

  • says who? diplomats? pfft

  • nah. i've got some friends who have met him, and said he was an ass.

  • Have you ever met the man (in response to 99435fghf)? He's brilliant and very courteous with his fans. He's just a regular guy who happens to be a rockstar. Don't go passing judgment on people you don't understand. I personally have met him, in fact spent an evening with him at his pool party in vegas this summer, and it was like hanging out with an old friend.

  • Your an ass, and I've never met you so that makes us even, you ignorant fool. Passing judgement on heresay is pure ignorance, so go shake his hand, and buy him coffee, talk with him, and you'll see your friends are missing something....

  • pool party ?? doesn't seem like Matt i wish i could talk with the guy

  • y is he a douch bag??? and y do sum ppl call him matthew good and sum ppl call him mathew good BAND???

  • The Matthew Good Band was the band he got famous with, then they broke up and were re-constituted (several times, with different members)before he finally went out on his own as a solo artist, hence Matthew Good.

  • Just remember he was dealing with a mental illness most of the time and didn't know it! I hope that he will be back with a band and come down to the states and kick all your ass's In my books he is redeemed!

  • I hope he doesn't do the 'band' thing again, and I doubt he will. What he is doing now is genius, hospital music has been one of the most intense listening experiences for me, avalanche is a masterpiece, and even white light rock and roll review is amazing, in my opinion he has only been getting better since MGB disbanded.

And if you are a fan of all the MGB stuff, he still plays a whole wack of those songs live. So it is really all win win, great new stuff, and a healthy dose of old stuff.

  • agreed

  • hes touring again with a band in the spring, i seen his solo show, amazing yes , but to really take in his music, a band behind him makes it even better.

  • sorry, allow me to clarify, i hope he doesn't begin 'writing' songs again as part of a band. Though he did have some help from other musicians to record hospital music and his other solo albums, he is the one that did the majority of the writing.

As a lot of his solo stuff does have layered instruments and his not exactly solo in the sense that it is just him there acoustically, it is solo in the sense that he wrote most of the music.

touring with the band is cool though, i plan to see them

  • Is he British or something?

  • Canadian, does us proud.

  • ok, cool, yeah, he's Awesome.

  • I love him! First saw him in Vancouver in 1996 for New Years Eve, and have loved him eversince! But I live in the states now, and he just doesn't tour here. Shame.

  • I saw him yesterday, it was wonderful

  • i saw him on the 30th.. solo acoustic show.. WOW.. thats all i want to say

  • Amazing video, amazing song, amazing artist. I can't wait to see him in November. :D

  • Leaffan07:

It is frigging brilliant. Right up there with Avalanche and The Audio of Being in terms of quality. The first track alone is one of his finest pieces ever.

  • Has anyone who has bought or listened to his latest album comment on how it is? I'm anxious to get it and hear.

  • i have only heard the first single.. born losers. but i am going to see a SOLO ACOUSTIC performance on the 30th of october. ill be sure to tell you how it is.. hahah. im stoked. the venue is small and intimate, and has great acoustics, so the sound will be crisp and clear :D

  • i got it it is good!, i am tired of born losers, but love the album, very well done, really gives insite to his life in the last few years

  • i got Hospital Music a few months back and like it very much. I prefer avalanche, but i say get it to know for sure. Besides its Matt Good, you can't go wrong.

  • First heard of MG when I was in Vancouver in 2003, heard one of his songs on Much (oh, the irony) and bought Avalanche... loved it, and this is the best song. And great video!

  • aurguebly my favorite matthew good song.

    thanks for the upload

  • I will share my thoughts in an effort to validate the significance of my existence

  • Salut tout le monde. Excellent vidéo. Très original! J'adore. Matthew, you are the best. Very happy you'll come to Quebec city!

  • Salut tout le monde. Excellent vidéo. Très original! J'adore. Matthew, you are the best. Very happy you'll come to Quebec city!

  • Just To Continue, He has now been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, a form of manic depression.

    Hope this Helps. :D

  • gg5656, "When Audio of Being came out, I was at the end of my rope with it all. I felt like I was playing a role that everyone else wanted me to play but me. I just couldn't do it any more. I was stuck in a rut. It had to change." - Matthew Good

This song is written about his feelings of despair during the Matthew Good Band days. He felt everyone around him was using him to make money, and cared nothing about his mental deterioration.

  • Part3

And we're all monkeys in a long line

    Long line

I'm just a boat on the ocean

And I'm just a ship lost at sea

  • Part2 Buy in. It should shut you up Try it. It should shut you up They've brought someone in to shut you up And it's getting to be light work While we were hunting rabbits I came upon a clear And the sky, it's stars like fortune drilled me Until now I was a soldier Until now I dealt in fear These years of cloak and dagger Have left us disappeared And I dance and I sing And I'm a monkey in a long line of kings And we dance and we sing
  • Buy in. It'll shut you up Try it. It should shut you up We've brought someone in to shut you up It's a life's work While we were hunting rabbits I came upon a clear The sky, it's stars like fortune drilled me Until now I was a soldier Until now I dealt in fear These years of cloak and dagger Have left us disappeared (choir sings with matt in this part) And I dance and I sing And I'm a monkey in a long line
  • This is a very fitting video to this song. It's beautiful and haunting. Matt just keeps getting better with time. I love his music just as much now a decade later as when I was 16.

  • yo i absolutely love this song its very chilling..i have an idea about what this fantastic song is about, but i was just wondering if someone could shed some light on the meaning...

  • Matty Good is the man.

  • i guess when it really comes down to it.

  • woot!!! : )

  • i wish he has been hunting monkeys; they're so much worse.

  • matt good is one of the very few musicians i still actually have respect for lol... great song, creative video

  • this whole album is amazing

  • great song but i

    don't care for rabbits anymore

    :(

  • This video is fucking awesome and the song is too. No matter where it came from, it's still great.

  • thank you for sharing this video. Fantastic song and video. And for some of us, the song represents our lifes battles. Don't ever buy in!

  • YES! AGREE COMPLETELY
