  • Tori Amos is an absolute legend, she is an extremely talented rare artist with the voice of an angel.

  • Love this but I can't help thinking that Tori "borrowed" much of her style of vocals and arrangement from Kate :)

  • 14 people obviously didn't have their cornflakes in the morning!!

  • Just so love this song, so funky and upbeat. Contradiction really considering the emotive and unpleasant subject it's supposedly meant to be about. Love the images too.

  • Been a fan ever since her first album. This song is just beating Kate Bush at her own game... _O_

  • was doin playlist, this song came on, had to stop and find proper video to comment and share :)

    .... so much ...

  • Gosh soo much beauty in one song! I can't take it! :D

  • she is amazing. noone will ever compare! hands down best artist ever

  • man i miss the 90's

  • Brilliant piano riff :)

  • i always wonder what this song is about!!!?? tho I love it ...what "cornflake girl" means ... ? whats wrong with corn flakes :D i love them :D

  • @abrakadabra984 It's about being betrayed by another woman or in other words another girl that is your friend or at least seems so turning around and stabbing you in the back. "Never was a cornflake girl

Thought that was a good solution Hanging with the raisin girls" is an analogy meaning most people are cornflakes, they're not very unique and try to be average and just like everyone else and raisins, like in a box of cereal, represent the unique people and are fewer in numbers.

  • She reminds me of Regina Spektor

  • incredible.

  • @countbloodula excuse me. but im a dyke. and ur language is offensive. i hope the next person u meet beats the shit out of u. its noones anthem we like her music. so shut ur face.

  • The world is a better place because Tori Amos is in it. She is the essence of talent.

  • @countbloodula Then why bothering listening to it and then commenting on it?

  • @GenkaiShinigami Because that's the only way he can get a woman to pay attention to him. :p

  • @countbloodula just go to sleep and don't listen to it

  • @countbloodula your just bitching becuse you know shes a good singer.

  • Comment removed

  • @countbloodula Its ok, we all know you're secretly a fan.

  • well i listen to hardcore, heavy metal and well screamo music i guess you couls say. and i fucknig love this song. brings back memoires when mum used to play it like 13 years ago wen i was 4 used to scream 4 her to turn it off. good song :)

  • found my tori amos tape earlier, got excited then realised i can't put it on my ipod :( damn technology

  • Her voice in the chorus reminds me of Kate Bush..

  • This song is where it began for me, and i've been hooked ever since. Tori is such a amazing artist, she has helped me through my teenage years, highs/lows of relationships, becoming and being a mum, and now through adulthood, when i listen and sing along to tori, life is more magical, Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful talent x forever grateful x

  • @vishiquals I have just heard your song psyche and to be honest I didn't feel it, I'm an amateur musician and only play one instrument probably you play it better than me but one thing that I have learned about music is that is a way to express feelings, it's a cathartic moment, You can have a great voice, you can play every single instrument in the world but if you do not feel the music then everything is meaningless. That's the difference.

  • just discovered for tori amos. i was a tori virgin for too long.....

  • @vishiquals Do I detect a tad of bitterness in your statement? You have a much better voice than Tori and play 5 instruments.... Well done you!

  • @Quark130 and what has my taste in music to do with this discussion anyway?

  • @Quark130 Define 'commercial product' please. And I'm glad we can't (abbreviation! watch out!) all like the same music. You don't have to listen to the music on my profile if you don't like it. Since I do happen to like it I'll listen for you.

Other than that, I can't be bothered with this discussion any more. You're obviously either really bored, or really unintelligent (or a combination of both), since most of what you're saying is either bullshit or random low-level insults.

  • @Quark130 It is a very correct beginning, but it's short for 'what the fuck would it matter is she was lesbian'. apparently i have to spell it out for you. And you could have asked your question in a proper way (that is; one that doesn't look so much as if it were a problem if someone would be homosexual, and i'm not stating she is, because I believe she isn't)

And if you must know; no I don't watch american tv. too many commercials, and I don't like american humour. I just know my languages.

  • @Quark130 Well, if you did your research correctly you would know I live in the Netherlands, which is quite a long way from America. And how do I 'talk right whit' people? at least I know how to spell when starting a discussion in a foreign language [:

  • @Quark130 Hahahaha! You're funny. at least I have a stupid brain [:

  • @Quark130 What the fuck would it matter if she was?

  • @pokerstick1 I don't why people compare her to Kate Bush all the time. She's nothing like Kate Bush.

  • ¡Qué recuerdos me trae esta majestuosa canción! Muchas gracias por compartir, «GenkaiShinigami».

  • Oh I remember this! Very Kate Bush?

  • she's not a lesbian...but this song is loved by lesbians =)

  • @Quark130 that's another interpretation... Very likely;)

  • A MAZE ING! x

  • Gaga and Torie why was she even brought up Gaga is an RnB bitch and Torie is an alternative 90's chick compare as a young Kate Bush in her prim

  • Tori Amos, an absolutely favorite, absolutely!

  • la roux ?

  • I just can't get over how absolutely beautiful this song, music video, and Tori are!

  • My little piano whore,

Open the door to your garden,

Plowing your garden takes a gods hoe.

  • @EFWAP HEYA! GET OUT OF MY GARDEN!!!

  • Comment removed

  • rabbit where'd you put the keys girl ?

  • @hynes64 yes ?

  • @retepvosnul its the lyrics

  • @hynes64 I know, the last bit to be precise. What's wrong with them ?

  • Strangely reminding me of Emilie Atumn, but great, great song. Going on my list of songs that would be great to choreograph to, along with crucify.

  • I love her hair colour. I really love.

I used to be redhead when i was child, but now i have brown hair.

  • Tori Amos...love this song!!!

  • I Love Redheads :) ;)

  • Female circumcision in Ethiopia can only be to make women faithful to their husbands, since if they can't have orgasms then they won't be tempted to seek other lovers -- it's pretty much the same as castrating a stallion to make a tame & manageable gelding -- that's the deepest part of male chauvinism, to make women nothing more than breedstock, compliant & dutiful, so that there won't be any cuckolding, no question of whose children they are - just the war of the sexes, from the Year Zero

  • one of my favourite songs... and the video is great!

  • i don't really get the lyrics.. what does she mean by cornflake girl?

  • An artist is not an artist because their popular an artist is an artist because their dedicated to their art despite criticism most of our most notable artists sold fuck all when they were alive it's only in retrospect hypocrites liked them.... art is never well received at it's first conception as it challenges people not embraces them. check BANKSY hes' been around for over a decade yet slowly getting the kudos for his first prints now.. even in the information age.

  • Love this song!!!

  • i like the remastered tales of a librarian version better. still such a cool song.

    :) tori rocks

  • Tori Amos does not belong to you, she belongs to all of us who love her music.

  • Acquired taste, yeah maybe. I just wasn't certain at first....not that she wasn't a great artist, but I just wasn't used to her I didn't know her...but once I started listening and trying to learn from other artists....I"m blown away. This woman is a gem....and we just don't have a lot of that which is why I didn't see it for what it was. She's better than what I have become accustomed to. I hope I can play like her one day. Good Lord if I live that long...I'm getting old NOW!

  • Tori Is awesome!!!!!!!

  • Great song about a very emotive subject. Quirky, eccentric, very "in your face". I love her but she is a bit of an acquired taste. Great Post.

  • Just Love this song is all.

  • tori amos is nothing short of amazing... i'm so blessed to have grown up in a time when music wasn't a complete waste of time.

  • I've heard it's about female circumcision..........

  • @retroboydeccles It's more so about the betrayal between women. Amos read Alice Walker's novel 'Possessing the Secret of Joy' which is about a young African woman going through the ritual of female genital mutilation and was angered that the mother could subject her daughter to such a brutal act. The "cornflake girls" are narrow-minded and full of prejudice whilst the "raisin girls" are open-minded and multicultural but are much harder to find. Amos did a commercial for Kellogg's Just Right.

  • @GaeilgeSpraoi Even thou the man behind Kelloggs was a right wing Christian as in a puritan so she was really well miss lead there

  • @MrJkhg How was she misled? she's just using the 'cornflake' and 'raisin' girls as metaphors.

  • @GaeilgeSpraoi methaphors for what? Sorry, but i don't really get it, but it's a really nice song!

  • @coverscopyer She did and advert for Kellogg's Just Right before her career which is a mixture of cornflakes and raisons sorta as you know. In her song the 'cornflake girls' are conservative, narrow-minded and unloyal and are easier to find whereas the 'raisin girls' are liberal, loyal, open-minded but harder to find. She got this whole idea of loyalty between women from reading Alice Walker's novel 'Possessing the Secret of Joy' which deals with a daughter going through the ritual of ...

  • @coverscopyer ...female genital mutilation in Africa and how her mother forces her into this horrid thing. So amos being quite the feminist made a songs with this idea of female loyalty and thus she uses the whole 'cornflake' and 'raisin' concept as metaphors for these two different types of women. Amos is a 'raisin girl' to note. I hope I helped you understand this amazing but odd song! :)

  • @GaeilgeSpraoi Wow really? genital mutilation, oMG! i almost get it now, thanks a lot! Just still don't know what exacly it means to be a cornflake girl and a raisin..?

  • @coverscopyer

Hi, I read Tori's explanation where she considered a box of raisin flakes & noted that there are masses of identical bland cornflakes with only here & there the sweet raisins - the metaphor is with the majority of unimaginative conformists & the ocasional bright sparks who think for themselves & are nice to find - so, people go along with female circumcision (ugh!) & few resist it - we have Ethiopian women, refugees in the US, fleeing this practice - now we know why Tori is upset

  • Brilliant song. Really, really, really great song.

  • What are the meaning of the lyrics ? anybody know. I heard it was about female circumcision o - 0

  • @WeskersLady Read my post above ^^

  • used to play this over n over! uh oh - i'm doing it again!!!

  • Is the first 4 or 5 seconds of the song from another song or was it composed by tori amos? It sounds really cool, just wondering if it is sampled.

  • @generalyoji The mandolin part was performed by Steve Caton so he probably composed the mandolin riff himself.

  • Is that the same bird cage from Professional Widow?

This video probably had it first because Professional Widow didn't come out until 1996/1997.

  • @boogs2007 The Professional Widow video was nothing but clips from previous videos from her first three albums. It included clips from Talula, Pretty Good Year, Crucify, and Winter plus more.

So that's why you've seen the bird cage before. This video was released in 94 and clips of it were put into the Professional Widow video in 1996.

  • Fantastic quality. Is it just me?

  • someone compared gaga to TORI? CRY...CRIES MORE

    Best Vocalist ever !

    Best songwriter/poet ever !

She smashin on the keys !

And watchin perform.... I just ...... could never get enough TORI..

BOWS DOWN ... FULL SUBMISSION........ BEST EVAH !!!!

  • @elbee222 Why does anyone have to be best. I like Tori and GaGa, but wouldn't compare them. Best vocalist? So all vocalists are obviously the same style? Because I think Septic Flesh have some of the best vocals, but they can't be compared to this - it's a different style of vocals...just as is Simone Simons of Epica...and VNV Nation's voaclist (can't recall the name right now) - he's male, so that's makes comparison hard too. Songwriter? Oh dear, too many genres to be as limiting as you.

  • @Hollenvaen

I actually totally agree with every word ya said.. I just made that comment because at the time both top comments were about Gaga.. i just wanted my girl here to get her props on HER own song post.. ya know?

But I love how you came with good REAL information that makes me think ;)

I got feedback sometimes where people call me names because they dont agree. Thanx for using the logs the RIGHT way ;)

  • @elbee222 That's alright. I'm just used to most people going "OMG THEY ARE THE BESTEST <3 <3 <3" and I will admit, there are a few bands I say are top of their genre - but normally a few together - for example I would say Septic Flesh, Hollenthon, and a few more :P are the best symphonic death metal/atmospheric death metal bands, you know? A group is the best, never one artist... It's the minorities of a library that create a persons preference by comparison to a majority.

  • @elbee222 i agree with all bar the vocalist part, she is not the best voice to sing a song

  • @qwerpoiuyt1981 I generally don't even give any thought to people trying to be insulting when they can't even spell.

    Please troll somewhere else, thanks.

  • @qwerpoiuyt1981 Nothing wrong with a skanatron! Id quite like one of those I think!

  • whoever dislikes this song is allergic to cornflakes =)

  • that music video. is... horrifyingly relevant

  • Long time ago was good music...

  • ha ha, sounds like this, sounds like that, who cares, cool tune (and if you really wanna know who she compares too, !!! Kate Bush)

  • Not heard this in ages & i mean in a long time 1994 maybe as far back as that.

  • 6 MOTHER FUCKERS DON'T KNOW WHAT REAL AND AUTHENTIC MUSIC IS............

  • @aviadmei This is mainly chicks music. Most if not all of those 6 would be father fuckers.

  • @Nexius8 Do you want to say only females listen to this music?:S

  • @JHmusic4ever Considering Im a guy and this is on my favorates list, no. More just being a smart arse.

  • @Nexius8 Ah okay:)

  • In some parts she soudns like shakira.

  • @HelloShitti you mean shakira sounds like her :)

  • @HelloShitti

    Are you crazy!

How can you think she sounds like shakira

You really amazed me XD XD XD LOL

I don't know If smile or cry

  • @rickz1980 Question: What is wrong with that if i think she sounds in this song a little bit like shakira? Or if shakira sounds like her whatever. People dont have the same opinion i know. But youre acting like i compared her with the antichrist. Just calm down.

  • love it!

  • stupid

  • dont get mad at me guys, i just interpreted the song differently. It doesnt take away from the point she was trying to prove about conformity. Also, have you ever considered that you interpreted it differently then tori amos? I considered your point of view but you brush mine off.......

  • 6 cornflake girls explained their disagreement

  • Raisin girls and cornflake girls.. Either way, they 're both dried out.

  • i use to dance to this every day...

  • I miss the 90's

  • @Kati3K me too my fav era

  • tori, lady gaga, both are broads just trying to make a dime, man. suvvin dinla gorjas.

  • @BlainePistolle tori is so much better then the tranny wannabe

  • a fav !!!

  • I'm such a raisin.

  • incredible artist one of the best ever

  • We're not in Kansas anymore...

  • The man with the golden gun = FBI John Douglas. Cornflake girl = Old South where (raisin girls)negro fleeing would run through the corn fields & would run out or be burned to death. Tori, composed & wrote for some negro to put them front & centre Eurovision 1970 Netherlands where Tori painted herself black. Peel = a change in costume be it hair, hat, front teeth, voice, /somewhere out there, etc . String bean is a Jesus leaning persona white versus black, there is no grey area,

  • @iriswigle It's so horrible what people in charge do to the more vulnerable. What does John Douglas (was he one of the original "serial profilers") have to do with this song? Just curious.

  • @iriswigle Riiiiiiiiiiight....

  • Definetly my favorite female artist....even though she's known through out the world and has a strong fan base, I still feel she's under rated.

  • aint hurd this song for years !!!!

  • Much better than Elizadoolittle!

  • Tori Amos kicks ass. i don't care what others think. i love herrrr and this song beats pretty much anything in the top 40 right nowwww!!!(:

  • Idiots sliced one of the best piano solos ever recorded. They did the same to the US version.

  • @shadowheart52

    Agreed.

  • class

  • I'm having a lovely time!

  • Beautiful song...bellissima canzone... ;)

  • Beautiful song...bellissima canzone... ;)

  • Listen to that nice sounding snare drum!

( If you happen to be kinda producing music )

  • can't believe that someone is actually comparing Tori with Gaga, first is stupid and second Tori IS AN ARTIST

  • @juddithmaddox85 Both proud feminists..

  • @juddithmaddox85 Both proud Feminists..

  • @juddithmaddox85 they are both artists, they're just different.

  • @juddithmaddox85 I think the only reason they would do this is when Gaga wasn't trying to be popular with the wild outfits and generic sound, she was actually really talented, especially on the piano, just like Tori. Tori, thankfully, did not sacrifice any of her creative style for the sake of creating pop fluff like Gaga (even if Gaga writes her own music, she still appeases the masses by sounding the same as everything else); with Tori, it's her unique individuality that's to be admired.

  • @juddithmaddox85 tori is a genius

  • Yeah, this song really does top Poker Face. But Gaga has some really, REALLY good piano ballads there. Not in par with Amos or Heap, but still really good.

Shit, this isn't a Gaga vid, it's Amos'. This song is GREAT! I'm gonna invade radio station websites to get this shit playing again.

  • wrong, Amos was cast in a cereal commercial, she won the role competing with the likes of sarah jessica parker, but acting wasn't for her.. not a cornflake girl.

  • this song tops poker face

  • As good as she ever got, I think.

  • That's top-notch music.

  • It's PEAL out the watchword - shout it out!

  • Chodzi Ci o mnie missrosiecass ?

  • who is the dick who disliked this??

  • Ten fortepian jest po prostu rewelacyjny !!!!!

  • It 's more imporant the depth of body or soul? Today too many women only think about their body .. and depth of spirit is an option.

  • So it wasn't a hallucinated memory of mine that the music video to this tune featured imagery reminiscent of The Wizard of Oz.

  • Best song ever! :) xxx

  • you can tell when someone is an awesome artist when there're no dislikes!

  • she can do anything with that voice and that face. love you Tori!

  • Comment removed

  • This Goddess can play the hell out of a piano!!!!

  • damn..good voice and she looked soo hot..i dig redheads :)

  • when I first heard this song I just came out and I was so alone, this made me feel like there was more than just sex.

  • I'm SOO singing this song for the Dutch X-factor auditions !!!! OMG I love it .
