He has just lost a lot of his vocal range. The more they play and tour his range will widen. If he is using the correct vocal techniques then every show and rehearsal will strengthen his vocal chords, just as long as he isnt straining.

Like I said two weeks ago, it's all studio done on computers. He might have had a voice 5 years ago live, now it only lives in the studio and his head. No different then when Joe Elliott lost his voice(hope you know who he is?), but was awesome in the studio. Smoking, drugs and old age does that to you. I'm a living example. Hard to stay David Gilmore over many years and still sound good live or Jon Anderson of Yes, some do must don't. Geddy kept his voice as well, age not always...
They're playing the song with a different tuning (a whole note down) to make it easier for Stapp to hit the high notes on live shows but he still can't reach them... your days are over, Scott. Studio vocal "pitch-corrector" really does magic, when recording. Not in live performances... this is just too sad to watch. And I'm a big Creed/Alter Bridge fan

As a long time studio musician, I can assure you it is amazing what vocal processors can do to a voice. I assure you he sucks, voicewise, outside of the studio. If you think this was just a bad night, there is about 18 other live versions for you to check out, most are worse then this. With computers and a million takes to get each line down as perfect as possible, anyone can sing and sound good on a record. I've seen it a million times how an album is done regarding vocals. Line by line...

OK, when 10 thousand plus people are paying to see you, it is your responsibility to not have a bad day singing wise or music wise in any form. He has no excuse. If they used too much Melodyne on the album to the point where he can't hit the notes, no point in recording it. Give it to a singer who can. such as Alterbridge.
Guys, Give Stapp a break. Clearly Kennedy is a better singer but the studio version of the song is excellent. Stapp has some good days and some bad days. Too bad they cancelled the Charlotte concert. I saw AB live and they had power problems with Mark's amps for the first two songs in ATL. The show absolutely rocked but I wish I could have seen Creed live also.
I don't care who gives me down thumbs but I prefer Nickelback. Nickelbacks vocals are always spot on and it just makes live performances tighter. Still!! this album is great and I do like Creed
Range tops nothing. Range doesn't determine whether one singer is better than the other. You could sing high as a dog whistle but still sound like shit ... Myles' voice sounds really good, I cannot lie. But I don't think his voice is suitable for hard rock. Or any kind of rock for that matter. He sounds better with the slower songs. Stapp's voice is much more aggressive and powerful and is therefore more suitable. I prefer Stapp's voice over Myles. I still think Myles sounds like a pussy...
Agreed mdgrmt but even though he's not played with them in a while I think the reason people are criticising him is because he's failing to reach the right notes consistantly which sucks because the album sounds quite good
People also have to realize that with a Live set, there are no filters or audio adjustments during recording, with fills etc. They have a sound guy yes, but they do all the pre-volume checks during the sound check. It's also been how many years since Stapp's solo album hit shelves? Sure, he might have studio time singing, but not live...which is a huge difference.
The sound quality sucks because at the show it was awesome! Especially the explosions after the songs! And for all of you saying his singing sucks its because it was their third time playing the song live. The other songs his voice was awesome!

I've watched a few recent live videos from a few different shows, and his voice was painfully off key and horrible in every single one. Sucks that dealing with scott stapp is the only way for them to make money. Miles Kennedy was much better than this douchemover.
scott stapp has probably the most unique sounding voice ever! you canot be a judge on some guys crappy homemade video from a concert because even some of the best bands in the world sound bad over a $100 video camera.
as much as i am still rooting for alter bridge, and am a creed fan, when you are selling out arenas and making a double platinum record, your voice doesnt make a difference. untill you make another album, if creed makes another album after full circle with scott, it wont sell more than 200,000 copies. the thrill of creed reuniting is slowly deminishing. Actually, even though James has trouble hitting the high notes like he used to, he still is almost always in key. Scott's vocals have deteriorated so much faster and worse than James Hetfield's....

If you are implying that Scott Stapp couldn't sing before because of your personal experience hearing them live, then you can have that opinion, however every singer has their off nights. Stepp is a great "studio singer", but an awful "live singer", but we can't compare him with Myles. The AB singer has one of the most incredible rock voices I've ever heard, so Stapp will never get close to him. Myles is going solo for a while, I bet it's gonna be something! =D

Well the vocals on the album were heavily produced.
The chorus is super weak.. The backups are really not that great.
I never heard a lot of live creed however, he might be having a bad vocal day.

Agreed mdgrmt but even though he's not played with them in a while I think the reason people are criticising him is because he's failing to reach the right notes consistantly which sucks because the album sounds quite good

People also have to realize that with a Live set, there are no filters or audio adjustments during recording, with fills etc. They have a sound guy yes, but they do all the pre-volume checks during the sound check. It's also been how many years since Stapp's solo album hit shelves? Sure, he might have studio time singing, but not live...which is a huge difference.

The sound quality sucks because at the show it was awesome! Especially the explosions after the songs! And for all of you saying his singing sucks its because it was their third time playing the song live. The other songs his voice was awesome!

No, he was NOT "under the weather." He just sucks that damn bad now, and I'm a big Creed fan. I just saw them at Clemson and if it wasn't for Staind, I would have demanded my money back. They are a joke now. Creed is buried and gone.

In effetti qui pare che Stapp non ha più voce o comunque difficoltà... ma non è così.. ho visto il concerto gratuito due giorni fa... e dopo aver fatto le prime due canzoni un pò sottotono (compresa era anche Overcome, nei toni alti aveva difficoltà) poi la sua prova è salita di tono... confermando che non è finito. Insomma gli anni passano.. ma ha comunque una grande voce. Pochi cazzi.

I've watched a few recent live videos from a few different shows, and his voice was painfully off key and horrible in every single one. Sucks that dealing with scott stapp is the only way for them to make money. Miles Kennedy was much better than this douchemover.

as much as i am still rooting for alter bridge, and am a creed fan, when you are selling out arenas and making a double platinum record, your voice doesnt make a difference. untill you make another album, if creed makes another album after full circle with scott, it wont sell more than 200,000 copies. the thrill of creed reuniting is slowly deminishing. Alter bridge on the other hand is getting nohting but a positive responce, Wow, scott sucks, myles kicks ass, i wonder who is going to suceed

Actually, even though James has trouble hitting the high notes like he used to, he still is almost always in key. Scott's vocals have deteriorated so much faster and worse than James Hetfield's....

Bad observation, especially when the sound quality is obviously fucked up and horrible. If you are implying that Scott Stapp couldn't sing before because of your personal experience hearing them live, then you can have that opinion, however every singer has their off nights. This isn't Ashley Simpson here. And if you think he couldn't sing based on studio recordings, get your head out of your ass, because anything would sound bad from in there. If it wasn't for Creeds popularity and Mark Tremonti, AB would be nothing. Who ever heard of Mayflower or Myles Kennedy before Alter Bridge formed? Just face it Myles Kennedy should feel fortunate that Creed broke up and Mark Tremonti picked Myles to be the singer because he would still be singing for Mayflower with crap lyrics. Myles can't touch Scott Stapps song writing. I admit Myles has a great voice but AB can't touch what Creed has done.

Stepp is a great "studio singer", but an awful "live singer", but we can't compare him with Myles. The AB singer has one of the most incredible rock voices I've ever heard, so Stapp will never get close to him. Myles is going solo for a while, I bet it's gonna be something! =D

I think Stapp is a goos singer in his own way, he has a unique gravelly voice which isn't bad but who else thinks the backup singer sounds better than Scott here? I think the backup singer overshadows his vocals lol.
