  • thanks a lot for this video.. i was struggling to load film each time, n i knew i was doing something wrong. now i know :D

  • Wow, his hands are fuckin DRY!

  • cool tips! do you know you can control this camera with an infrared remote? I know..you're saying "no, this cameras as no IR receiver". but.. Yap you cant control it wirelessly! great for long exposures and remote shooting! check out how at this link (copy to browsers address bar): remoteALL.bymac.org

  • Say that if i took 15 shot with the film. Is it possible for me to rewind the film remove it from the camera, and then put it back in and re-use the film again? thanks

  • @m4pl3r Yes, but you must remember at which point you stop at to avoid double exposures. Use a film picker or a film picking technique to pull the leader out of the cartridge and reload it in to your camera and take blanks (Light can leak in from your view finder, best to do it in complete darkness) until you are where you left off.

  • IMG, THANK U SO MUCH!!!

  • wtf is up with your hands

  • I don't get it he's am expert yet he scraped the shutter more then once and he couldn't get the cartridge in place some "expert"

  • just out of interest, i recently bought a phenix dc303k second hand.. i've loaded it as you've advised and i've taken a few snaps on it.. although i'm just wondering whether or not the battery works? how would i know otherwise and would the camera actually take photographs if the batteries were dead? if you could get back to me asap i'd be most grateful, thanks. :)

  • @shakeeit121 I have a old Konica AutoReflex T4 and thought the same. The only purpose for the batteries in these old film cameras is the light meter you see in the viewfinder. I've memorized all the correct F-Stops and Shutter Speeds for most scenes so I have never replaced the dead batteries. Just load that film up and shoot away! :)

  • Thanks man, I really needed this right now!

  • Thanks a lot I just bought a 40 years old Nikkormat :)

  • It's much simpler than this with my 35mm Canon EOS 500n, just flip back open, slot in, drag over and close, camera takes it from there! :)

  • dude i just found an old camera out in the barn that im really trying to figure out how to use. its been a while for me using slr film cameras and when u said rewind the role of film i did. i wonder how many other people did. that sucked. u should edit that out or be more specific. thanks for the help

  • i dont even remember leaving the 'fail' comment on this video because it was a year ago, and i also don't know why i said that. but he did let the leader scratch all over the shutter curtain, that aint right.

  • You know if you pressed the winder down back into the camera, the film roll wouldn't be jumping around while you try and attach it to the takeup spool. Just fyi =)

  • WHOA EXPERT VILLAGE HELPING PEOPLE?! HOLLY SHIT! WORLDS GONNA END!

  • in my camera i didn't notice the slots and just pulled the film out so it passed over that bit in the camera!! does this mean it's useless? should i open the back of the camera and take a look?

(i'm a beginner to film SLRs)

  • thank you soooooo much, i have looked at millions of videos but only yours helped me!!!

  • cant see sht

  • This seems like it's really going to help me load my Zenit EM.

  • hell yes. i just got a nikon em today.

  • at 0:47 it seems as if he is holding the video camera with his mouth and writing an amderican novel all at the same time.

  • is that a nikon FE i see?

  • im not death you know, your text is covering your hands

  • press the arrow and then press CC

  • @redtec989

Obviously your spelling needs some work.

  • yeah fuck this guy. I just lost my whole 35mm roll trying this assholes instructions.

  • haha why is there a huge slab of text covering my whole video? i can't see anything. :/

  • omg you're a life saver! u made it seem so easy, and thnx for having it close up so ppl can actually see what you're doing.

  • he made it look harder than it is.

and to the below comment, maybe the guy has never used a manual/film camera. It makes sense that someone would know about Exposure and shutter/metering/aperature before they knew how to load film coming from digital

i have people come up to me asking to see the picture after i take one, just tell them gotta wait a few days heh.

  • the hell? my pentax doesnt have those slots ike in, 0:55 !!

  • Come on, someone, per-leeeze, is this meant to be a spoof?

If you don;t know how to load your film camera, take the camera with you when you buy the film, and ask for someone to you. You'll pay more for that film than you might do buying elsewhere, but you won't end up making a fool of yourself like this guy did.

So, don't follow this video. Look for another.

And enjoy your film photography. It's like latex-free sex. (But enjoy film safely!) (Oh, yeah: enjoy sex safely as well.)

  • Typo time!!!

That should say " and ask for someone to SHOW you." I apologise.

    Errare humanum est

  • what a waste of film..

  • "Learn from an expert?" I would have pushed down the winding shaft after inserting the cartridge. That's why his film kept coming out as he was trying to get it on the take up spool. Also, there's no reason to extend the winding arm while advancing the film onto the take up spool. You will see it turn as you're loading it.

  • good video

He looks like a black version of Peter from famly guy

  • haha he does

  • does it matter what side of the film you use?

like the dark side or the paper like side?

  • of course it matters. but the film cartridge will only fit right one way

  • The Canon AE-1 Program takes better pictures than my fucking Olympus point and shoot. Awesome camera. Just have to learn how to use the aperture and shutter speed and installing film and I'll be good.

  • You learned about Aperture and Exposure before you learned how to load film?

  • fail

  • @jamescracksthesky why is this a fail?

  • thank you so much!! this was really helpful.

  • i have one of those digital film cameras and the damn thing keeps swallowing my film

  • Thank you! The other people who make these videos are RETARDED.

  • canon EOS-1v ftw!

    lol

  • whi not using your fingernails to scratch better the shutter?!

  • jesus you scraped the shutter curtain with the film and fingers blimey

  • I FUCKING LOVE CAMERAS

  • lol

  • @greentomato5 I do to

  • Except try NOT TO TOUCH the shutter curtain with the film, and turn the time-selector to a FIXED-speed (e.g. 250) before loading the camera.

  • Amazing Tutorial =D

    Thanks man =D

  • wow, perfect, exactly what I was looking for and it's an FE2.

    Thanks!

  • yes thank you!! i have a nikon em and would of never known how to put the film in w/o watching this thanks!

  • wow this vid of expert village actually told something good... bravo

  • minolta = win.

  • great vid,, and u actually show where the slot is,, thanks a million,,

  • i love my ae-1!!!

    ahhh thanks for the help

  • ah! Good old Nikon FE2 I have one and still use! that camera it's priceless, I still love my Nikon D300, but there's something about the machanical aspecs of this camera.

  • omygod, thx!!!

  • wow very difficult to use

  • I can never do that...nope....

  • Its hard now to buy slide and 35 mm film it sucks cos I have a good camera - Canon A1..with 5 exposure modes. These digital cameras have made mine a museum piece .........

  • Thank you! Finally a video with a clear point of perspective!

  • thank you!

simple but a very helpful video.

  • im still confused.. ive been given a zenit-e and i cant load it to save my life!!

  • Thank u so muuuuuch!

  • It's to the point , people have to start somewhere , 24 years ago I bought a Pentax Spotmatic , Ok the dealer tried to con me with the meter overexposing as he'd lose his margin getting it cleaned , lubricated and adjusted . He gave a me a roll of Kodacolour 100 , I just put the leader in the take up spool so of course it wasn't feeding film from the other end : DOH ! . Also it's promoting interest in these old things which will be still going when these digicams will be in the bin : Excellent

  • Thank you so much!

  • im such a noob.. its too late.. i just wasted 1 roll of film then realizing that after taking it to a photo center to get it developed, the film was not loaded properly and the whole roll was wasted... now i know..

  • Thank You! Before I took a whole roll of 36 and loaded the film the wrong way. Now I know how to do it! Thanks!

  • Thank you, i didn't want to mess up while loading my film. Then imma feel like a roookie nublet

  • This video is a God send! Seriously, thank you so much for this. You just saved my butt in my black and white photography class.

  • same situation! this video is AWESOME. 5/5

  • wow this helps. I have a old SLR camera from the 80's. Maybe I will go to the store and buy a few rolls of film and use it now.

  • THANK YOU! :]

I needed this video! I just got a film SLR camera from my Uncle today and I'm having a difficult time loading the film! Thank you. =]

  • Ooooo, that just made me cringe. You must make sure that the film doesn't touch the shutter curtain. It's very delicate!

  • No Body cap?

  • I don't know where mine is...
