  • Excellent!

  • "Take Five" is a jazz piece written by Paul Desmond and performed by The Dave Brubeck Quartet on their 1959 album Time Out. Recorded at Columbia's 30th Street Studios in New York City on June 25, July 1, and August 18, 1959,[1] this piece became one of the group's best-known records, famous for its distinctive, catchy saxophone melody and use of the unusual quintuple (5/4) time, from which its name is derived.[2] \

  • According to legend; this song was actually just the guys messing about during a break. quincy dug the way all the bits came together and decided to put it together properly. They called it; Take Five, after the time that musicians call their break time. Now, that's a legend I heard tell years ago. Kool, huh?

  • @stepityo i'll "take five" minutes, I guess it's true, since Paul said he composed this piece as an intro for a long drum solo by Joe Morello, and you know, when there's a long drum solo, the other guys "take five"

  • by far the best arrangement of take five! its smoooooth as fuck.

  • @spacepatrolman Thanks Spaceman I know about the tv show Mr Broadway with Craig Stevens loved those 60's shows with the theme music especially JOHNNY STACCATO with John Cassavettes!!!!!

  • @dal4018 there is a piano book from revue studios that has pictures of cassevettes some of the music the composers are in ascap some are in BMI there is a law that you cant be in both unless you are a publisher with 2 corporations so revue has the alaska music publishing company and the hawaii music publishing company

  • @BigBlackRod Whoa. dude. I'm gonna do that! Blasting Jazz. never thought of that

  • @bugg333 I'm real eclectic when it comes to music, bugg; I got cd's where 50 is backed up by Zappa, followed by Teddy Pendergrass, leading into Beanie Sigel, and Van Halen (Dave-era), with e mobile Donna by Pavarotti thrown in for good measure...PEACE.

  • @BigBlackRod AMEN TO THAT WHITE GUY WHO GAVE YOU PROPS

  • @BigBlackRod Hi, Sweet soul/jazz music has on color !

  • @BigBlackRod

Why's it relevant that he's white?

  • @littlecasper1 Because of the socially acceptable assumption that ALL Black guys pump profanity-laced hip hop out of their vehicle's speakers. Had I been a White guy, he probably wouldn't have looked at me like he did, or said anything other than "hello"...PEACE.

  • Simply oustanding!

As Dave brubeck, he brings jazz in the highest level.

  • pretty damn sexy ;)

  • best music ever... Paul desmond wrote it, Brubeck used it :P

  • Originally der was Joe morello on the drums ,and Paul desmond was playing bass

  • check your sources

  • @peddapedda srsly?

  • Very good version.

  • Yes i agree Quincy's version is good but george benson's is excellent. I never realized how good a guitarist he is.

  • Yes! I must agree with you. George ripped this piece apart! lol he put a lil cayenne pepper in it

  • this one version is good but go see the george benson version!

  • beautiful, absolutely beautiful.

  • This is my favourite interpretation of this great piece.

  • Counts for me aswell.

  • brubeck's song

  • Desmond's tune...

  • Paul Desmond wrote it (Dave Brubeck quartet's saxophonist)

  • amazing! nice nice

  • is this Quincy's or Dave Brubeck's song?

  • dave brubecks but quincy's version sounds good to, goes down to better engineering i suppose

  • @AmbraBlu Its Q'S VERSION

  • it'll remain alive one hundred more years.

  • I love it!!! ;)

  • hey jazz is still good.....

  • @Biskitz06 jazz will always be good

  • @saxman8666 damn right!

  • @Biskitz06 Did you know Miles Davis hate the term Jazz he thought it was of European origin and he always used the term American music instead

  • @dal4018 he said many interesting things like that such as he was the only one in julliard that understood modal improvisation then and that alex north would succesfuly blend jazz [he did use that term ] in a movie soundtrack and that he wanted to do $800 worth of coke a day and as many white chicks as he can get through the door and that george wein was robbing him makeing him play 2 concerts in 2 locations the same day and only paying him for one .

  • @spacepatrolman Yes Miles said many things while he was alive there will be a movie out soon about this music icon starring Derek Luke.I hope it covers his jealousy toward Quincy Jones because Miles 1st wife HAD THE SERIOUS HOTS FOR Q WHEN THEY WERE YOUNG BUT MILES PUT A QUICK STOP TO THAT.

  • @dal4018 they usually get into those risque things in those movies there were other things like he was beaten by a cop in front of birdland ,punched out a concert promoter, showed up at the fillmore east late because he didnt want to be an opening act for a rock group.
