Easily one of the best films I've seen. On the whole, the very well acted, fantastic cinematography, lovely score, and an absolutely wonderful story (which if you are considering it, the book was phenominal). A nice string of cameo appearances too, which was a nice bonus as well, now I think of it. God I miss the Carolinas...

I can't watch this movie more than twice a month. It is so sad throughout the entire film, and the ending doesn't have an extremely happy ending. Amazing film, which is why I dare watch it once a month despite the tears it makes me create. ;)

@BC721 I disagree completely. Cold Mountain was one of the best books I've ever read. If your analogy of LOTR for Cold Mountain was correct, Frodo and Sam would travel to Mordor, destroy the ring with great realization, relief, and healing, and THEN die (yes, unexpectedly, but still...). It was not in vain.

Hmmm... I read the book, and it seems to me that they really over dramatized this by alot. :/ Ada wasn't really that desperate to have Inman back, only some but towards the end of the book. And they added MANY things that weren't originally; guess it is just based off the book then. :) Just my opinion though. Looks like a pretty good movie other wise :D
This was an okay movie. Some of the scenes were difficult to watch. I read that the Home Guard was nothing like they were portrayed in this movie. They weren't the heartless bastards that would shoot kids and torture women. I was glad that blonde-haired jackass got killed at the end though.

Id also like to point out the American no accent accent is much younger then the southern accent.
The southern accent has been around for nearly 200 years while this no accent accent is less then a century old.
Since Americans did not invent the laguage or the speach patterns that come with it the American no accent is NOT the true english.
Id like to point out all english speaking nations have words unique to there region yet you would not consider them incorrect.

Accents develope over hundreds of years.
The Irish have there accent the Australians have theres and the southerners have theres.
In reality the American English is not correct english.
Its what we would call an accent.

I can't watch this movie more than twice a month. It is so sad throughout the entire film, and the ending doesn't have an extremely happy ending. Amazing film, which is why I dare watch it once a month despite the tears it makes me create. ;)

Worst, most depressing book of all time. It is the equivelent of Sam and Frodo traveling all the way to Mordor, then getting killed at the foot of Mount Doom.

@BC721 I disagree completely. Cold Mountain was one of the best books I've ever read. If your analogy of LOTR for Cold Mountain was correct, Frodo and Sam would travel to Mordor, destroy the ring with great realization, relief, and healing, and THEN die (yes, unexpectedly, but still...). It was not in vain.

when i first seen this movie, i didnt even recognize Jude Law. It shows how much he was dedicated to this film, and he did a brlliant job. I praise Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellweger also.

I love this movie. I don't know why. I'm not usually the type to like romantic movies, but this one appeals to me, it really does. It's beautiful beyond imagination.

@st1nee This movie is so much more than a romantic movie. The test of a great movie is the number of emotions it will illicit from the viewer while telling a complete story. This movie will make you cry (both kinds), make you laugh, be angry, be shocked, be joyful, and be amazed. And it is just a great tale. Love this movie.

@Phloid82 ballshit a truly great film is 1 with no story, just a muscle man who can take out a army, or a gang by himself, the film has to have hardcore sex scenes that have women with massive fake tits and make up which requires paint stripper and a wallpaper scrapper to remove. most of all the film must have massive explosions from start to finish .

Hmmm... I read the book, and it seems to me that they really over dramatized this by alot. :/ Ada wasn't really that desperate to have Inman back, only some but towards the end of the book. And they added MANY things that weren't originally; guess it is just based off the book then. :) Just my opinion though. Looks like a pretty good movie other wise :D

This was an okay movie. Some of the scenes were difficult to watch. I read that the Home Guard was nothing like they were portrayed in this movie. They weren't the heartless bastards that would shoot kids and torture women. I was glad that blonde-haired jackass got killed at the end though.
