Unfortunately, they don't look quite like this in-game...on the latest SiSi build (and it goes live tomorrow), the "depth" of the nebulae shown in this video is not there...they are mostly see-through and do not appear to be 3D in-game, it looks an awful lot like its just painted on, like the current ones on live, albeit higher resolution.
Hurry the damn up and add these! I'm tired of the same old ugly nebulae since 2003 or however long it's been. I want something pretty to look at besides ships.

@Mandrak789 So an indie game programmed by 1 person can do full 3d nebulas you can fly through, but CCP just makes flat skyboxes, still after all these years? Somewhat disappointing.
@Baleur Agreed; I've been pushing for that idea since the game's inception; I used to post on the forums suggesting that they implement it. But I'd like to think that their reason for not doing so has something to do with the sheer massiveness of the game.
@Baleur Although, one rumor I HAVE heard, is that while you can't fly through nebula itself, they technically are situated as actual "3d objects" in different areas, meaning, as you jump into a new system, you'll move to a new part of the nebula, & see the background vary slightly. See for instance 1:40 of this trailer - Gw0gOjOWDuI. This is a RUMOR I've heard; but if true, at least it would mean systems would have unique backgrounds, & each region of space would take on its own look and feel.
@Baleur Infinity has been in development since 2006 and there is still no hope of that being released within years to come. It has also hardly any ship models or gameplay developed as of yet. It is true that one programmer started the infinity project however there are now I believe 12 people on the project.
@chevezez Oh yeah, totally, those are nice too, but i think the new ones feel more realistic and have more depth. It's been a while since i ventured into wormhole space mind, but the new "I Was There" EVE trailer gives an idea how it will look in a fleet combat situation. It's just another step to making EVE feel more real.
@Helge129 i love how some people complain about lag in massive fights but what other games can boast that they can handle hundreds of players in a fight... all while looking amazing.. love eve
@MrDerSozialist It's flawless until around 300 people. Lag starts to get bad around 500 people in system. Also the suggestion about turning brackets off etc, its server lag ie. modules don't cycle etc etc.

I don't think people realise, are these Nubula are litterly hundreds if not thousands of Light years in size, one can easly span an entire empire state, and If your in one of these nebula, you can't really grasp the scope of it, as one small tenddril, like the Nebula at 0:40, can hold thousands of stars, and those stars have hundreds of planets, hell you want to make it real, just have one nebula, just taken from angles.
Would be SWEET if you guys implemented nebulae harvesting for gas based mining. Would be like asteroids and "re spawn" with server maintenance. you would mine "Hydrogen Gas cluster" or "Dispersed Hydrogen Field." Also "tritanium dust" that you could compress into tritanium rock...something to think about.

I am soo looking forward to these new updates. As an old vet of Eve, it is this kind of constant updating that has kept me and my multiple accounds substribed for over 5 years to a single game.
I'd love for more of the background music to be like this, a combination of electro-synth but with a lot more of the orchestral stuff…and to have it be of a higher bit-rate of course, because the current files are so heavily compressed. Oh, and fixing the jukebox for the Mac client. It's been a year and a half since it broke with Dominion.
@WarrantedFaith Well yes and no. Depending on what star system you are in it'll have a different angle of view of the nebula. For instance: Star System 1 would be "above" the nebula. Star System 2 would view it from the middle of it. And Star System 3 would have Below the nebula, thus looking up at it.

@Helge129 Doesn't appear to be simple skyboxes from the video. Watch it again and you can see that different parts of the nebulae move at different speeds. This may very well be just from compositing multiple skyboxes but what you seem to be suggesting, that it is 'just a skybox', is incorrect.
@Helge129 You are mistaken. As far as I'm aware UT3 does not use skyboxes in the traditional sense. Instead it uses a large sky-dome mesh rendered in world space along with multiple layers of actual geometry. Think about this; if a skybox texture is to cover the screen with appropriate texel density, say a minimum of 1024px, that would make 18 megabytes for each frame of a skybox animation. It is simply not feasible to have an animated skybox texture at a compelling resolution.
Excellent. I have always adored the quality of the in game scenery. This addition to the game should bring about an entirely new level of ambiance to New Eden.
Wow, such a dramatic increase in quality, awesome work! All that needs to happen for total immersion is for each region to be assigned with a specific nebulae, and as you travel from system to system within a region, your view of the nebulae changes. also, the closer you travel to the region's center, the closer to the nebula's center to go. Kinda like homeworld where the distant nebula (garden of kadesh) grew bigger and bigger each mission until you ended up inside it. One can dream
@soapy05 I like your thinking. Most nebulae actually span distances well beyond the size of our own solar system, even hitting sizes of 10 times the width including the kuiper belt. Freelancer actually incorporated this into their views as well. I would love where some systems are actually in nebulae, presenting additional challenges of wear and tear on your ship from natural circumstances as well as the chance to get lost because of sensor degradation. A small chance to be sure.
@samsonguy10k well that is highly unlikely as there would be no planets in a system in a nebula as its basically the birth of a star...planets only start to form around that star maybe millions or billions of years later
@soapy05 Done, this is indeed what CCP is doing. However when you are actually inside the nebula it doesn't mean the system will be filled with a cloud, just that the nebula will stretch all around the skybox. I think the best way to think of the nebulae are like a cloud of fog. when you're standing in the fog all around you your view is obstructed but the area very close around you is not. This is the same way that you would see a nebula if you were inside it.
@Meeeanie In that case, CCP just went up a couple of levels in my book. Now I just need a computer to run future eve in all its glory. Hell, I haven't even updated my characters yet since both my computer and laptop cant run the character editor...
My eyes watered slightly while watching this. The Universe is a fascinating, beautiful, incomprehensible place. And this is just a game representation of that beauty.
All these nebulaes are beautiful but shown in false colors. Just saying for the guys who believe that universe looks like this. It doesn't.

@left4trance This is indeed what it will look like ingame, the nebulae are simply skyboxes, nothing fancy about that..
The fancy part is how epic this skybox looks :P

@Helge129 Doesn't appear to be simple skyboxes from the video. Watch it again and you can see that different parts of the nebulae move at different speeds. This may very well be just from compositing multiple skyboxes but what you seem to be suggesting, that it is 'just a skybox', is incorrect.

@qartarsauce It's still just a skybox - a skybox can be animated, as can be seen in UT3.

@Helge129 You are mistaken. As far as I'm aware UT3 does not use skyboxes in the traditional sense. Instead it uses a large sky-dome mesh rendered in world space along with multiple layers of actual geometry. Think about this; if a skybox texture is to cover the screen with appropriate texel density, say a minimum of 1024px, that would make 18 megabytes for each frame of a skybox animation. It is simply not feasible to have an animated skybox texture at a compelling resolution.

Wow, such a dramatic increase in quality, awesome work! All that needs to happen for total immersion is for each region to be assigned with a specific nebulae, and as you travel from system to system within a region, your view of the nebulae changes. also, the closer you travel to the region's center, the closer to the nebula's center to go. Kinda like homeworld where the distant nebula (garden of kadesh) grew bigger and bigger each mission until you ended up inside it. One can dream

@soapy05 I like your thinking. Most nebulae actually span distances well beyond the size of our own solar system, even hitting sizes of 10 times the width including the kuiper belt. Freelancer actually incorporated this into their views as well. I would love where some systems are actually in nebulae, presenting additional challenges of wear and tear on your ship from natural circumstances as well as the chance to get lost because of sensor degradation. A small chance to be sure.

@samsonguy10k well that is highly unlikely as there would be no planets in a system in a nebula as its basically the birth of a star...planets only start to form around that star maybe millions or billions of years later

@soapy05 Done, this is indeed what CCP is doing. However when you are actually inside the nebula it doesn't mean the system will be filled with a cloud, just that the nebula will stretch all around the skybox. I think the best way to think of the nebulae are like a cloud of fog. when you're standing in the fog all around you your view is obstructed but the area very close around you is not. This is the same way that you would see a nebula if you were inside it.
