  • "Things that ought to be can be"

  • Edward is awesome not just because he's caring, but he has foreseen that the best way to start changing the world is beginning with your own neighborhood.

That's what I noticed here in my country: to change a continental country like Brazil you gotta start with your community.

  • The park is nice, but a roller coaster would have been way cooler! Could you imagine?

  • Good job of making this happen. My wife and I came came to see the opening today. I am very impress.

    Clap, clap, clap.

  • What's with the narrator and the fake Northeast accent? I've lived and worked in MA, NY and Maine, and nobody says AAAFTAMAAATH for aftermath. NY is "Aftamath,".. Boston is "Aftimath", and Maine is "Aaaftamath? Shoudn't we find out what's bofower math ferst?

  • By the way, this is an excellent project and it's won the battle.

  • What's the song called that can be heard at 3:00?

  • Why "wrest control of the structure from private interests"? It's not moral to steal. Did those private interests steal from you? Maybe, but maybe not. The less theft the better. As if a group of community 'activists' really knows what's best! Wow. What an "opportunity" to create "greenspace" (steal someone's property and let it go "back to nature"). This is coercive socialism. Far better if they just purchased the property, then who could care what they did with it?

  • The track belonged to CSX, who donated the property to the City of New York in 2005. CSX seemed to think it worthwhile to save this land for public use, else why sign it over?

New York is all buildings, few parks. Creating a new, large park above the streets *is* an interesting and innovative project. The city, not CSX, pays for the project.

No one wants it to go 'back to nature' - it's been doing that for years. Rather, this is a Rails-to-Trails project in a rather unusual location.

  • Are you getting rid of the tracks>?

  • I read your magazines all the time. Keep doing what you're doing!

  • this is truly inspirational...and hopefully it really could help the 'go green' program in any kind of way

  • what happend whit this project at this time?

  • FYI it's on the WEST side, not the east. ;)

  • Edward Norton IS incredibly inspiring!

  • They should turn it into a drag strip and let the homies race and stunt on it.

    Seriously though, great project.

Although, it's too bad they just don't put the original train service back to ease congestion and pollution.

  • I think it's supposed to open by the end of the summer 2008 (August, maybe?). This sounds super exciting, and I totally want to go. I've lived in NY for almost 4 years and I never knew that was there.

  • i met david samlpiner, cool guy

  • This is excellent!

The ida of green space and a park all above street level is amazing!

When is the date of this opening?

(I'm going to be in New York later in July)

  • Project by: Field Operations (USA)

  • I wish the best in this project for the new york community, and Edward Norton always doing good things for others, that's him. I love his caring and he's humanity. "He have the gift". later....

  • rad idea

  • I'm wishing you the best and can't imagine where the money to develop this is going to come from. 'course I don't live there. Maybe New Yorkers really care enough to fork the funds over.

    Got any updates on this?

  • I love it how Ed Norton always gets involved in this sort of thing.
