I'm an atheist, I don't really care if someone wants to build a muslim school in camden or anywhwere, if a Muslim man or woman own the land and they wanna build a school then thats there perogative. However I think having a Muslim or Catholic or even private school is just stupid. If you want your children to learn about your religion then take them to church or whatever your place of worship is, you don't need a school to do that. If such schools were not allowed, then that should equally apply to Islamic colleges also. But since they are allowed, then that allowance should be granted more fairly to non Chhristians as well.

I'm an atheist, I don't really care if someone wants to build a muslim school in camden or anywhwere, if a Muslim man or woman own the land and they wanna build a school then thats there perogative. However I think having a Muslim or Catholic or even private school is just stupid. If you want your children to learn about your religion then take them to church or whatever your place of worship is, you don't need a school to do that. Either way that's my opinion on that matter, like it or not.

Faith based schools are a good thing.
But I understand your point. At issue with me is the fact that there ARE many faith based schools for Christians. So it clearly is acceptable to mix school and religion in Australia. If such schools were not allowed, then that should equally apply to Islamic colleges also. But since they are allowed, then that allowance should be granted more fairly to non Chhristians as well.

Yes its true there are many Christian based schools here, and recently a lot of schools have abolished teaching Christianity at their schools because of the different cultures they have at there schools. Also I think the reason there are so many christian based schools here is because when Australia was populated it was by Christians and not muslims, i'm sure you would agree that it would be different if people of a muslim faith founded here first before christians the numbers would be reversed.

Yes. There is no denying that Australia is in general terms a Christian nation. And there is no problem with that and no dispute.
But if you claim that you stand for freedom of choice and equality for all, and your country does, then you must honor that claim.
There will NEVER be any danger from Muslims gaining majority over your Christian society. So there will be no significant change in the complexion of Australia if you approve such schools. So why not?

But I guess when I see news of Xavier College (Christian school?) behaving so badly and as a repeat offender, then it makes me wonder about the merit of their teachings in those Christian schools, and that they flourish in numbers while quality Islamic Colleges are routinely denied there.

I would have to say that be it Australia was originally founded as an English penal colony, it is still has a lesser crime rate than Egypt, now that's saying something. Over 4000 years old and you still can't get it right.
I would go so far as to say that even while it was a penal colony, it had a lower crime rate than that of Egypt. I suppose even the aboriginals had a lower crime rate, partially due to their 'stone age' way of life.
