  • I have a 05 WRX i just bought with 57k on it and it started that sound yesterday. Did you figure out what it was? I stopped driving mine till i can find out what it is any info would be great.

  • haha it sounds like a diesel engine!...probably it's missing some oil...!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Check out my Subaru video engine Noise...Beast

  • change your oil much

  • Typical POS Subaru Rod Knock

  • is your turbo still spooling!? i had this very same sound, it was an exhaust leak :p

  • thanks for the comments and help you guys. Just to keep it simple, I'm not entirely sure what it was that broke. I do know what the sound was from though. The piston had been thrown outta wack and was moving around freely in the cylinder and the heads were cracked all at spark plug whole. Improper A/F is the culprit. Currently having my engine rebuilt and tuned with new goodies added. Hoping for around 300whp on premium and then around 350-75whp on E-85.

  • any followup?

  • its A WRIST PIN,.. new pistion head but got to drop the crankshaft and all pistions to find the bad pin

  • Bottom line is the top end has to come apart to see whats up. if your lucky it will be and it wont be a complete rebuild. if i were you ide find another car thats been in a wreck and salvage the engine for cheap. that would be your best bet. good luck and i hope all works out well. its never fun when something like this happens.

  • i had tyhe same noise and it was my crankshaft. i had to replace my engine on my civic....

  • adjust the valves

  • definately rod bearings. get'm replaced or youve got a fucked engine.

  • spun rod baring needs rebuild or total failure will occur

  • that is why subaru recommends 5w-30 oil

  • @yelzhan123 this is why you should use good oil thats 5w40 and check your oil once a week or even less..

  • this is oil pump that can not pump cold oil properly to the 4 th cylinder wall that goes bad over time and when oil warms up pump manages to deliver oil the cylinder walls

  • Bearings, definitely. My short block is currently being replaced for the same reason.

  • write me if you need some more info

  • man sounds like you just need a complete rebuild could rods sound abused buy some stroked rods and drop the compression down a lil you can hammer it all day and reprogram the ecu not you will lose some power buy get it back if you pick up the boost over all your motor will be on the par

  • hey that sounds a lot like when our van started doing it the rods were knocking so we had to park it its still at our shop

  • Sounds Like Bearings. When you rev the knock gets louder. My guess would be your bearings are messed up on the crank shaft!
