saturday morning n just drifting through Youtube and then came across this ........absolutely blown away !! the power and the passion and the voice !! Thats the rest of the day gone ...too busy checking out Joans other stuff !! Thanks for posting video!
They are friends since a long, long time. Baez referred to Ian as "my baby" when she presented her a grammy in the 70s. Ian writes in her autobiography how much Baez means to her.
wonderful, thanks for sharing! I found out couple of hours ago that she`s coming to Croatia in July...I felt like I was going to puke, then I felt dizzy...and now I feel HAPPY..I just can`t wait to see this goddess with my own eyes!
Don't think you should speak for Dyaln. In a Rolling Stone interview at the time of the Rolling Thunder Review he said "No singer today has the Power of Joan Baez". I was taught years ago don't argue with a fool, they will beat you with experiece!
why lie? He and everybody else knelt in awe when the mighty Baez raised her voice in song. Click on their Blowin in the Wind Video where he introduces har and adds "she sure is great" Bob's use of power referred to the effect her singing created , not the quality os her pipes which speaks for itself. Read Chronicles, BD thought she was the a relgious ICON, Mr. Bird-d00-d00-cloggin-your-chimney.
A bird should be in a tree, not stuck in a chimney! Maybe that explains it. Of course power does not mean good or great. But a great voice can sing very soft and still be heard. She also has the most sensitive voice but I'm sure this is something you are not aware of.
Your bird comment is about as unique as Joans voice. I can't remember how many times people have used it. Your last comment about me noit being aware of her "most sensitive voice" is very true. I wonder why that is?
Well it is one on the most "unique voices there is" so thanks for that. You probably don't know that because your experience limited. Try listening to a song called "The Love Inside" from her "Children of the 80's" album / CD...French release. 50 years in the business and over 60 albums, maybe you should do your home work. You might learn something!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I listened to it, it's just as screechy as all the other stuff. Longevity and lots of recordings doesn't mean someone is "good" just well promoted, look at Babara Steisand for example. Oh and in terms of unique, you're right it is unique not many voices out there that sound like squeeking on the blackboard.
LOL....I came here once of my own choice as I was interested in hearing different arrangements of this song. Since then I have only come back cos I keep getting messages in my email saying that I have had a reply so I click the link to see what that reply might be. If you don't want me to look here anymore, stop replying. Thanks for the "tone deaf moron" remark. I will, as always, take your abusive comments as a sign that you have run out of any logical arguments.
There is nothing logical about you or your statements. You must be a wanna-be. Jealous of real talent. Now go back into the nothingness from which you came!
Gosh you're an aggressive soul huh? What is it with some people that they can't cope different opinions to their own? If you lie her that's entirely your perogative, but abusing others that don't only makes you look shallow.
I guess your mother never taught you "if you can't say something good about a person DON'T say anything at all." No one here has asked for your uninformed opinion. There are many singers I don't care for but I do not go to a place like youtube where 99% of the people like someone and make negative comments. Talk about shallow look at yourself. Any further mails from you will not be read just deleted!
delete, delete, delete! Also your English grammar is very poor.
Hello sorry about this but I am going to have to say something regarding this discussion. I'm very much like the bird-in-the-chimney in as much as it always surprises me that people on youtube get so abusive about other people not liking the artists they like. I love Joan Baez but it doesn't upset me one bit that the bird doesn't. I disagree that she is screechy but bird is perfectly entitled to think she is and say so if he/she wants to. That's the nature of a free society and public forum no?
To all those who see fit to abuse people who don't like the musicians they like; GET OVER YOURSELF!!! This isn't Afganistan and you aren't the Taliban so quit acting like them. Shhheeessh!
Of course you are talking about bird and yourself. Your negative comments are abusive and passive agressive. People come here to hear beautiful music, shared by like minded others. Not tired old critiques by a couple of ninnys. Gee, I guess I miss the point of life. We are suppose to go through life telling everyone everthing we don't like about everything. You must be fun to hang around with. SOME THINGS ARE BEST LEFT UNSAID,IF YOU HAVE ANY CLASS AT ALL.
What "negative" comments do you refer to? I certainly have said nothing negative about Joan because as I said I love her. All I have tried to do is point out that this is a public forum and the Birdman has every right to express his opinion in it, if you disagree then that's up to you. I'm genuinely not saying this to be "passive aggressive", I just think the best thing to do if someone says negative stuff about an artist you like is to ignore them. They go away much faster when you do that.
I've been told taht she's going to retire soon, because her voice is quitting her, is that true? I hope not! Because even if she has lost in the highs and in power, she gained in depth and strongness.(Forgive me for my bad English, I'm french...)
No! Her still impressive upper range is more wobbly and weaker but her interpretive powers are undiminished and many prefer her aged voice. She's as active as ever concert wise and according to her myspace blog is working on another album.
Joan Baez has the most glorious voice I've ever heard. Powerful, tender, expressive and beautiful. I don't recall where I saw this performance but I've longed to see it again. Thank you for posting it!!!

Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York.
Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania.

Tut tut a bit sensitive there "rd". I'm in good company though, Dylan didn't like her voice either. It's an old peeps voice.

1)"Power" doesn't mean "good". There are plenty of people with "powerful" voices that sound powerfully horrible.
Dylan was quoted in a 1975 interview as saying that her voice could "strip varnish ar grate cheese".
birdstuckinchimney 4 years ago
