People busting on this video have no freaking clue what was transpiring in the 1990s. I'm blown away that a decade that so fundamentally reshaped music and laid the true foundation for video even today is so wildly, WILDLY misunderstood today.
This is an ALL FEMALE band that wrote, played and performed music that even today would be considered unusual. And they were MAINSTREAM POPULAR. Not a singing and dancing trio, but a female BAND, and they were f*cking amazing.
OH MY GOD: that's Cibo Matto (Yuka Honda and Miho Hatori) who got on the bus with them! It's like an indie dance pop alternative electronica rock dream come true!!!
this song always brings back great memories for some reason. I was young with great friends and dreams. I can't believe this video has to be framed with Beyonce. who even knows one Beyonce song?
I was a teenager in the 90s, grad in 97 and I loved it, loved 90s. I was into a lot of flannel and airwalks, bringing my skateboard to school and listening to alice in chains, pearl jam, soundgarden, etc. Miss those times as yea most people were real and natural. It was a lot of fun back then.
I was watching best of alternative hits on VH1. They picked "Naked Eyes" as their big song. I had never heard that one. This was the song that rocked it!
@fizetr I was wondering why the sky seemed bluer, remembering back. Now I know why.
And I'm 20 now so I totally relate to your comment. Girls seem so drab and, and when they don't they seem so over-sensualised. Just look to the girl nex to you and see if she's not wearing short-short-shorts and listening to Rhianna.
@TubeheadSkinnymike You should go to the "Mazzy Star -Fade Into you Video" immediately!
She was so cool not many girls like her anymore they all are loud and have shitty attitudes or are so focused on pointless shit that you can't even hold a conversation with them....I miss the 90's!
Watching this video is so bittersweet. It makes me wish I could relive the late 90's as the adult I am today instead of the struggling and blossoming teen I was then. Everything felt so fresh, fun and promising back then. I wish I had reveled in it more. But I am still grateful I got to smell those flowers before they were gone.
The message of this video to me is to not miss out on the ephemeral beauty of life. And the benefits of carpooling.
yeah this brings back alot good memerories things were so much better in the 90s, especially my neighborhood, well plus i was a teen in the 90s i was just starting to learn about the real realities of life everything wasnt like it is now, you know shit seemed easier then
this was seriously one of my jams back in the day, i was probley the only person in camden listening to luscious jackson, i seen them open up for the beastie boys when i was a teen, is rosario dawson one of the people on the bus?
@MalvadoX Well, that's true, but the shift wasn't as drastic as one might think. I mean, I don't think the change of sound on ELECTRIC HONEY was as drastic from FEVER IN FEVER OUT as that album was from NATURAL INGREDIENTS. But, even NATURAL INGREDIENTS had "Here" - which would become a semi-hit after being remixed and re-released on the CLUELESS soundtrack.
@Redsoxman199 Kate Schellenbach was also the drummer for the Beastie Boys in the early 80s. Luscious Jackson also released music through the Beastie Boys' Grand Royal record label.
Their first live performance was opening for Beastie Boys and Cypress Hill at the now-defunct Building in lower New York City. The Beastie Boys asked Luscious Jackson to be the first band on their Grand Royal label.
What great music ! Raw talent. In retrospect, the' '90s were America's halycon days, days of peace, prosperity and tranquility. The biggest worry was a blowjob in the White House.
The chorus in that song is amazing. The melody highlighted by the saloon piano single notes is my favorite part, along with the groove of the lyrics. The kind of tune that stays in your head. That's what I love most about that song.
Summer 1999. I was a delivery driver, and listened to this song nonstop. Life seemed hard at the time, but it was simpler. Now i am 33, and at times I long for those days gone by.
This is so weird...when I take public transportation, there is usually some very attractive people dancing around. That must be where they got the inspiration for this video.
great song about respecting others, we all need to handle things with kid gloves. Lovers of the world unite and out shine the sun. I was crazy mad durring the 90's if you like this song listen to Cannon ball by the breaders, another awsome slacker anthem
it's my imagination or everybody looks so natural in the 90's, the haircut styles of the 90's was so natural, as the clothes, no emos, not only the typical thin hair in the girls of today, and the girls looks more alive than the girls of today. I was a kid in the 90's and a teenager in the 2000's, now im 21, but i remember specialy the 90's as magic
@fizetr I was a teenager in the mid to late 90's, and I agree. Things just seemed better then than they are now, be it music, style, gas prices...:x ;)
Ah , ah ! I didn't see your comments and i was saying to myself : " It's so weird : girls looks sane , no tatoos , not this horribles piercings , no bad attitude ... Did we change of time ...May i change of planet ??"
@fizetr I'm 43, and the 90's were very like the 70's...some mixed cultures, rock stars with soul and blood in their veins...90's were the best!!! And everybody can live this good 70/90 's vibes right now...no matter wich decade is.
The 90's made some great music! These girls blended some interesting genres with cool pop attitude without being too girly. Sweet to see EMI have some sense to leave this for for all of us to remember how good they were!!!
