Aah, this song brings me back. I was a mere child in the '70s, but I picked up a treasured copy of this album when I went out used record shopping as a teenager in the early '80s. An incredible band that really set my expectations for what GREAT music sounds like.
Orchestra Luna may be the best band too few people have heard of--ever. I was a recent transplant to Rhode Island, weekending in Boston, when I heard them in a club in back of Fenway Stadium I fell in love with them immediately, and I so wish that everything they recorded was available on YouTube. Who was the soprano towards the end? Spectacular. Thanks for make the world a better place.
Greetings from Oregon Rick. I used to play the New England club scene back during late 70's early 80's. The other day I was trying to remember the guitar player's name who played with you back then. I used to occasionally catch you guys when I had a night off around Boston - Cambridge.
This is a amazing song, with one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard!! It deserved to be much more known... I'm 22 years old and from Brazil, hardly anyone knows OL. So I feel very lucky...
OMG! OMG! I cannot believe I found OL here! I started crying when I listened to Doris Dreams. Not only because of the song, but the wonderful times I had in Boston. I was going out with this guy Kenny. He roomated with you (Rick). I so enjoyed seeing you guys (for free) all the time! I have such fond & Wondeful memories of Boston in those days. Thanks for posting! now, off to listen to Dancing on Paper' how exciting!!!! :)
@rickberl Hi Rick, I wanted to ask you which song from OL talked about the typhoid epidemic and the vitamin Q's. I thought that it was Doris Dreams, but I guess not. Thank You.
hi rick - you blew my mind back in fall of 73 at the oxford ale house in cambridge - i remember you strung up christmas tree lights around the stage -- and then put on one hell of a show - part rock and roll, part broadway musical, part carnival - i became a fan - saw Orchestra luna many times, and many of the other incarnations of bands you've had. Hope the years have treated you well. peace - grubby bean
Wow a pleasant surprise to see this here! It was great to get a copy of this CD from Amazon a few months ago... I first saw you guys at your 'last show' at the Rat in Ken Sq. many moons ago. Bought a copy of the promo disc @ Nuggets for $3 right after. Followed Airlift around and Luna, and also Randy's gigs around town (Pooh's, and opening for Metheny @ Berkeley) all that made being young and insane in Boston all the more magic.
My elder brother introduced me to Orchastra Luna at his Muswell hill flat , summer 1979 and it become required listening on every visit to London as a perfect counter point to all the punk / new wave music i was listening to and buying. If I was a drug pusher I would be pushing 100% pure doses of Orchastra Luna.
Orchestra Luna served to wean me; way up in the woods of Maine!
While listening to your female onterage - like a young Winslow from Cider House Rules, I knew right then the meaning of falling under the spell of muses....
Fantastic to hear this great Orchestra Luna song again! I LOVED this band when they came to play on Nantucket Island a couple of times each summer in the mid-70s! I never missed a show. Awesome! And all these years later, I have sung a couple of their tunes in my head from memory of those live performances. That is 35 years ago! What an impact this band made on me!
Is chet and Billy Best as well as Steve Perry still here on earth?? Thanks for up loading the great Rick Berlin and the airlift! I played so many shows with them "WOW" The Channel, The RAT, Grover House, is Rick still playing someone emil me if they have answers to any of my questions I would appreciate it! Thanks kelleighjaye from the old band CINNABAR...God Bless
I am enthralled. It gives me chills. I watched/listened 3 times in a row and remembered to select HQ the last time. Got the record album shortly after I first heard Doris Dreams played on the radio and I still have it. I think I'll get the CD if it is still available.
Randy's solo (starts at about 5:07, though his guitar starts segueing at about 4:20) is one of the best guitar solos I have ever heard. No wonder even Zappa was in awe!!!
I have this on Vinyl - GOD I always have loved this Album - thank you for posting this - I am as happy as a tiny little fat boy eating his chocolate cake on the Luna Lake
Does anyone have, and if so can they post, Fay Wray? I haven't heard that song since my little sister melted my OL album leaving it on a radiator (!?) in 1976. Thanks!
Rick, it is so cool to hear your voice again ... and Lisa's too, right? And, of course, Peter, and Liz. Still love all the OL music, still so glad I was there in '76 and '77 ... was always just nuts/crazy/happy to watch and listen to the creativity, the music, just feel the whole thing. And, I was so glad to have your friendship and nurtuting words .... love you forever ... Di
Wow...this just sends chills through me.Saw them so many times at Prestons on Nantucket. Have enjoyed what little I could find from Randy Roos on Narada label...Liquid Smoke
THanks for the Flash Back! I remember you in the mid 70's, Tanglewood, the "Zoo" aka Northwestern CT State, and Storrs, I think. Hope your doing well, and thanks again for the great memories, I had goosebumps for hours after seeing this.
Great video Rick! :) I'm just surfing around, thought I'd look you up! I also saw the video of The Berlin Airlift on Boston:Live- very cool man! Hope all is well! Take care!

Hi Rick,
I saw Luna a number of times, was at J Swifts the night Carla left for Meat Loaf. I remember asking her...who the fuck is Meat Loaf.

Although I did not like the reference to drug use, "Fay Wray" remains one of my favorite songs from this group.
It's been a long time however.
