Good job. It is about being invisible to people as they pass by. I posted it on FB with a an amazing pic of our local flower lady of the 1960's.It was such a soulful pic and this song seemed a nice tribute. Keep it up.
Wow - you really do the song proud! Nice job! How did you discover Phil's music ? Thanks for keeping his music ongoing! Have you gotten the chance to see the documentary on him? I think it should be on DVD soon!
Nice rendition of a great tune. See if you can do another take of it with a couple of violins to do the counterpoint that was in Phil's studio version :-) Great job and thanks for posting. Also, it amazes me how few people any more have even heard of Phil Ochs. He wrote great, timeless music. I have a hunch that Phil wasn't even around by the time you were born. I would certainly think that is ok, Bach wasn't around when John Williams was born either! :-)
Naughty boy, you should do your history homework! or are you in "war" with your teacher? This was my moral preach. Apart from that, I kind of like your rendition. Good guitar picking. Take care of yourself.
Actually, I commented on this right after it was posted, and the system said "comment posted" but, obviously, something went wrong. I think it was 3 months last time between postings. I love this song, probably above all other Phil Ochs songs. In fact, I was thinking of posting it myself, but I still haven't learned all of the verses. Now that would be superflous. I really love the Jim & Jean version, better than Phil's. (By the way, there's finally a Jim & Jean video posted on YouTube).
But about your reading, I like it. I thought at first that you just sang through the verses, one after another, allowing the words to carry all of the interpretation. But, listening more carefully, I hear that you actually do adjust your delivery for the sense of the words. I can hear Phil's influence in some of the phrasings, but I think you depart pretty far in some places. Of course I haven't seen this Phil instruction video--where did you find it? What is the song about, the war, partly?
It was on YouTube for a short time, but the guy who posted it was also the guy who posted the 'Chords of Fame' movie, and so it got taken down. It's on Google Video as a 4-song set with "The War is Over," "Marching," and "There But For Fortune."
The song was about apathy, basically. People go about their lives thinking that their problems are the most important, ignoring others.

I'm surprised at your apparent young age (college?) and your choice of songs. I had been trying to learn 'Changes', and found you here. Nice job.
