Marilyn is somewhat unique among women vocalists in that she displays excellent use of her lower vocal register to convey the melancholy spirit found in the lyrics of this song. It's pleasant to listen to her natural vibrato. She also doesn't drop final consonants such as d and t as is so common with singers today. Her facial expression and body language perfectly mirror the message of the song. All in all an outstanding performance!
Yeh I read that sometimes....i.e. that Marilyn couldn't sing. I think in this movie her vocals are great, strong and perfectly acceptable for what was required.
If you listen to all her songs over the years her vocals do change quite dramatically though...Later years she becomes the breathy Marilyn that everyone impersonates but here in this movie the vocals are straight. I like it a lot.
Listen to I'm Gonna File My Claim, also from this movie.
You don't have to be a technically proficient vocalist with a four octave vocal range to be great. Marilyn Monroe was a god singer - despite her limitations as a vocalist.
I remember the first time I saw this movie. It was on TV when I was a kid (i am 55 now). I don't quite know why....but I really like this movie. There is something about the whole feel to it. I can usually articulate well why I like a movie....but on this one I am at a loss. "I just like it"
she's so beautiful !

What a heartfelt rendition! I know I'm a sentimental old fool but this brings tears to one's eyes. We lost Marilyn much too soon.

A much underrated human being who was taken advantage of by those fuck-merchants around her.

If she had children her life probably would have turned out different. That was the type of bond she needed.
Beautiful voice and song. Great film aswell.

I do too. I am a bit younger but my foster parents are probably the age of your parents.
It is a very emotional movie and song.
One would wish that someone would have loved her the way she needed to be loved.
