hmmm sorry but the drummer should just stick to drumming. His voice is not right for this and he is flat. And true, the intro was rushed and had mistakes. Don't like the drumming in the instrumental either. Too stiff, and no fire.
Well, I'll assume that the guitar solo was as beautiful and haunting as ever (I didn't make it that far)
As for everything else up to the instrumental section, it was a shambles for me, sorry. The drummer isn't good enough to take the lead vocals, the keyboard sound was horrible, the intro was rushed.
What is the point of playing a classic like this and making such a bad fist of it?
Steve, you are a legend, but what I heard of this was truly awful I'm afraid.
Yes and thanks for you comments millsy, and to be perfectly honest I do agree with you, my perception is that Steve at least makes quite an effort with his band in order to recreate the original sounds, and yes there has been a lot of tinkering trhoughout the years specially with this song but nevertheless this performance is quite accurate compared to those made by Collins, Banks and Rutherford who many times tend to butcher it in a commercial way, I believe ...
There are different opinions on this song all round : should it include the intro, does Daryl murder the solo etc - all subjective viewpoints of course. My own personal favourite version of the song is on Seconds Out and my preference is always for Mr Hackett's playing on it. You can't 'bluster-up' a song like this as the impact is lost - in Steve's case, it's more about what he *doesn't* play, as well as the sound, everything.. BUT, this is a poor, poor version imho (what I saw of it)
Grazie, Patrick
Grazie mile ! Good posting, Steve will always sound immaculate ! He has always been truly faithful to the original Genesis songs, which I believe, earns respect from everybody, though he already has it ...
trevizons, in terms of playing the solos yes he has, but just to clarify, there has been A LOT of tinkering with arrangements over the years, which I know hasn't always been to everyone's taste, myself included. Nice to see Steve sticking to the original arrangement in this performance, but as for the performance itself, please see my comment above.
The singer sounds like John Wetton, but Wetton is better.

Only thing good about this is Steve's solo.

Bass Player was Dik Cadbury. He was called in to replace Nick Beggs who was out with Kim Wilde. No rehearsal, so he was up against it.
