Mike, I just picked up a new Macbook pro. I installed studio one and purchased a presonus firestudio project but cant get that unit to sync to the mac...any ideas...i just keep getting the blinking red/blue light...this sucks man
@dcaudio1 Did you install the universal control application from the presonus site? That is the first thing you gotta do. Universal control installs the driver so your mac can talk to the interface. Make sure you get it off of the Presonus Site, that way you will get the most current UC / Drivers. Let me know if you still can't get it happening
Thanks for the Presonus Drum recording video. It helped me get started with my StudioLive 16.0.2 set up and Studio One Artist. I'll probably upgrade the software to what you're using once I learn this version.
@CogitoErgoDrum My pleasure! I should be getting a 16.0.2 in the mail any day now :)
The cam I used in this video was the Canon HG21 with a cokin wide angle adapter. Without the wide angle I can't get the whole kit in the frame.... :) Pro version is nice :)
I'm always looking for new ideas for tutorial videos...hit me up if you have any thoughts on things that would help out :)
Mike...love this video man. You tutorial on studio one is the best i have seen. Thanks for the posting and info..I am just getting started in the recording process. I picked up a firestudio project, superior drummer 2.0, and getting a mac pro. What advice can you give me to get me going. I still need to learn the software...
@dcaudio1 Sounds like you are on the right path. The main advice I would share is: Don't be afraid to try things. Get into the program and just start turning knobs, try all of the plug ins, so you are familiar with the tools you have at your disposal. Lastly don't waste time if you get stuck on something..... Someone else has probably already run into any obstacle you could come across.... Google is your friend :) and reading the manual is also good!
Very nice playing and great sounding recording! I have one question about using Presonus Audiobox 1818 vs Firestudio. Is there any difference in latency between the two, Usb2 vs Firewire? Thanks JH
@joihjoll The Audiobox doesn't currently support the same "zero latency monitoring" that the firestudio does. However they claim 3.5ms latency roundtrip through the VSL mixer. I have hopes that they will work out the zero latency into the cue mix portion of studio one, But have not had any latency issues using the VSL mixer and the compressor is great to have in the monitoring mix for bass too! Thanks for your kind words.
@MaunProductions yeah, I have been on the computer a bit the last few days :) I'll see about bringing the scale in and weighing them! Although, It's looking like I'll be having all new cymbals after the NAMM show if all goes well. I can't wait!!!!! i screwed up and posted this to myself LOL
I wanted to give you a big THANK YOU on here for everyone to see. You have taken time out to help fellow musicians, and I can't tell you how much we appreciate it. Four little boys will benefit from this, and who knows where it will take them. It's people like you who inspire others. If you decide to dedicate a video to this very subject (recording), I will be your first customer and will make sure to share with others. Thanx again Michael!!!!
I am in the market for recording equipment. If you have time to look at what we're dealing with, you can find him at scyther258. (mistletoe and moves like jagger are the new covers). I understand you are very busy, & I can't tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to respond so thoroughly. When artists take time to respond to their fans, it makes their fans want to support them. I look forward to seeing more from you. :)
into the video editing software such as Sony Vegas? I hate to hit you with this barrage of questions on your video comment page, but I wasn't sure where to go as I couldn't find you on FB. You are a wealth of info, and I'm hoping others will benefit from reading this comment thread. I do in fact have a little sony video cam which does the job for now. My oldest son, Josh(14) recently posted two covers. Like you, he has an unstoppable passion for music. The recordings are rough, which is why....
WOW! I have been searching for days and struggling, and this has been the greatest help thus far. I can't thank you enuf. All my sons are in bands, so being able to offer a means to record would be fantastic! I have 2 more questions.I've been seeing the word "preamp" everywhere, but i'm still confused as to what it is. Also, does software come with the Audiobox? if so, does that allow u to mix your tracks, getting the desired result?Would you be able to use this before plugging the final product
Hi Michael. I've been on a journey trying to find and purchase affordable recording equipment as my sons want to record drum covers for youtube. I'm a complete noob starting from scratch. I feel lost, but am leaning towards presonus after all my research. I just found ur Presonus Firestudio Project tutorial & can't tell u enuf how much that helped. Now I see u'v purchased the Pres. Audiobox1818. The big ? is, which one do u recommend? I love ur drumming & am subscribing :)
@Andreapianogirl Thank you very much! I'm happy to help! you can't really go wrong with any of the presonus interfaces. I picked up the Audiobox primarily b/c I wanted to be able to use the ADAT input. The Firestudio project does not have an ADAT input. Adat allows you connect a compatible 8 channel preamp allowing you to have a total of 16 microphones or instruments record at the same time. This is important if you plan on recording a full band and want everything recorded separately. cont...
@Andreapianogirl The firestudio project is a great interface that allows you enough channels to record the full drum set. You can also use less miss on the drums and use the remaining inputs for other instruments. Aside from the interface and computer you will need microphones. a pair ofCondensers for overhead mic and a good bass drum mic is the basic starting point. My advice for that is Buy once, good mics aren't cheap. Ebay is a good source if you are being budget minded.
@Andreapianogirl Lastly you will need a camera, and some video editing software. I use final cut, but there are many options. If you have a mac, iMovie will work and its free. If you are on pc you can find some cheaper versions of Sony Vegas ( easy to use). When you have everything together, You basically capture the video while you are recording the audio and then sync them together in the video editor. When they are sync'd you remove the camera audio track and you are left with your final cut!
