Wasn't Wally Cox great? I remember my grandmother always had this on in the early 70's. I like watching Wally now on old Twilight Zones on Netflix. Barbara Bain was a hottie. I too miss Paul Lynde. He was the best on there.
This was back in the days when the show was still subdued and tame. It didn't really get rowdy and racy until the mid 70's when Paul Lynde occupied the center square.
And another pair in private life, if you consider that both Cox and Landau studied with Stella Adler along with Marlon Brando and were his friends and peers.

Where's Paul Lynde? The man who made this game show famous.

@Jiltedin2007 He came later (see Simon5005) in the mid 70's. People forget that Marty Allen was one of the first center squares.

@linuscomet The first thing that comes to mind when I think of the Hollywood Squares is Paul Lynde.

Ironic that there was a question about Bobby Kennedy and the number of children he had (10). This show was taped the year of his shooting death.

Not all that ironic for a game show to ask a question about a very well-known public figure and presidential candidate.

The revival shows never worked because they didn't have the stars they had then.

trinitymike you never heard of Rossi? If you ever followed the Howard Stern Show in the past, he always made appearances on the show.

Three pairs on this show: Rose Marie & Morey Amsterdam, Steve Rossi & Marty Allen, and Martin Landau & Barbara Bain.
By the way, Morey was wrong about the "Music has charms" quote. That was not from Shakespeare, it was from William Congreve.

Didn't Martin and Barbara attend the University of Illinois?
ebf1957 3 years ago
Yes, I believe that Barbara Bain did attend U. of Illinois. I think her degree was sociology. Martin Landau did not go there.
