I am on my first solar heater and it is very similar to yours. I was skeptical about it until it put out 178 degrees with it being 46 degrees outside. I'm in the process of fixing a few material errors, but I expect to be using it to supplement the heat in my house very soon.
Do you think you are losing effenciencyby having both entrance and exit on the same side? How about opposite corners or even a maze to run the fan through all the cans.
@TheOnetimeatbandcamp I think that is a great idea and well worth the time to try it out. That would be a great video for the future. Thanks for the idea and comment, Lonny
@TheOnetimeatbandcamp that is the awesomest idea ever!!! I thought of welding together a miriad things and getting them underground and never thought of a radiator!!! so simple!
do you have a thermostat hooked up i am lost i want to hook up a thermostat on my box but i dont now how to i just want to have the thermostat turn on the fan at a certain temp
@jjohn984able I just wanted to let you know that I did put up the thermostat video. I hope it helps you with your project. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks again, Lonny
@jjohn984able Most thermostats will support a light duty DC fan and they are pretty cheap around $10-$15. For a huge fan, a relay would be needed, but not necessary in this case.
Can you test your heater with CO2 gas inside the box and post the results, but CO2 should not leak with room air. Because Co2 increase the temperature.
Hey great job. Very cool, but would it not make sense to have it verticly mounted so that the air intake is at the bottom and the output is at the top, that way you might not even need a fan right? because the hot air blowing out the top would create a circulation. you can even flip the toobs so that the warm air is pumped to the floor of your house and the risen air is warmed up again. I am thinking about creating one.
I have seen a solution that resembles what you're thinking of. It should work just fine as long as you always want it to heat the area. -If not you should remove it during summer, or have some sort of temperature-regulated valve.
You guys are lucky to live in the USA cause people trow away so much stuff that is still in perfect shape. I notised that here in Belgium people don't trow away there stuff so easely so you have to pay more for your stuff. Aslo notised this with treadmill motors and these ametek motors. Pity for the european. hehe.
I have to say you build this nicely again like the rest of your stuff. Great job man.

@supergokue1 ok, so do you think you could bury a radiator kinda deep in the ground for free air conditioning?
just wondering ; your thoughts?

@jjohn984able Yes, I do have a simple thermostat hook up that works real well and is easy to do. I will be making a video on it real soon. Thanks

Maybe in the future, but for now we need all of our free heat we can get. It is a very cold winter.
supergokue1 2 years ago
@supergokue1 you could get much higher temps using reflectors like whats used on solar ovens.
