  • Dr. Z on my hvac schematic the dual cap shows current flow from C to HERM and from C to FAN. The start cap w/resistor shows current flow in one direction but the physical start cap does not. Does it matter which wire goes where? Also how do you test a start cap w/resistor? Thanks.

  • @1original11 It doesn't matter which wire connects to herm and which connects to C.

  • I think the stuff thats leaked out the old potential relay is in fact sealing glue thats put on in the factory, like some have the screw that holds the two parts of the relay together sealed over with silicon style stuff, but i'm only looking at a vid and not the actual relay. Great vid as usual :-)

  • @heavydiesel Thanks.

  • very good video alot of info.would like to see videos on how to find the problem. thank you

  • lol @ ratcheting wrenches

  • the videos are great!!!

l have a question, l have a older keeprite ac unit about 15 years old, it recently started blowing fuses in the panel, not all the time but every 2 or three days of runnig it will pop one, it has a small start capacitor sigle pole and daul pole bigger one, l havent tested them yet:), l was wondering if u have a weak capacitor will it cause the compressor to draw more amps on start up and cause a blowin fuse?,

  • @niper99 i think so

  • The difference between journeyman and apprentice is: a journeyman knows how to cover his tracks.

  • hey doc very good videos keep up the good work!!!!!!!

  • how to check to know bad capacitor,? you had v.d run capacitr.thank you for sharing exp.and have nice day....!

  • Dr. Z I have a question about the Run and Start capacitors. As a student in the HVACR Industry at a local Tech School, I'm being told to use a 1M Ohm resistor to bleed out the voltage instead of a screwdriver becuase of the internal protection on newer caps. What is your opinion and secondly, could you show a video of correctly bleeding them out to where we can service them?

Thanks Dr. Z, I love the videos, keep them coming.

  • Thanks for the comment. Using bleed resisters is a great way to discharge the capacitors.

  • You added the sound of a jet throttling up lol!!

  • What was that condensing unit used for, walk in freezer, walk in cooler,or split refrigerator, really I want to know??

  • It's to a walk-in cooler.

  • Did I see a TXV in that condensing unit? I always thought the TXV was placed at the evaporator to provide good cooling but if I did see one,why was it in the condensing unit?

  • Actually that was a hot gas bypass valve.

  • It would be great if you made a vid about solenoid valves. A lot of us viewers would appreciate that.

  • cool the school district im sure uses these hvac systems year round and the refrigeration.

  • Yeah, these systems are used all year round.

  • A 1/4" ratchet and socket set is definitely a nice addition to any HVAC/R repairmans tool kit. Along with a roll plumbers strap for those capacitors that wont fit into the origonal strap...

Great video, keep up the hard work...

  • Thanks. I keep a roll of plumbers strap in my truck for just that.

  • Cool video, how about a video on potential relays?

  • Thanks. It sounds like a good subject.

  • Great video DR.Z , what is your technique for determining BAD potential relay ?

I am digging your special effects!!!

    FRITZ...

    Man must be nice there,

    we are FREEZZING!!!

  • If the compressor doesn't start or has a difficult time starting I replace the relay and I replace the capacitors if they don't check out good on my multimeter.

  • "Capacitors Bandit"...That was funny.

  • Thanks.

  • Good video Dr Z. I am glad to see some refrigeration aspects of the HVAC/R trade. Keep them coming! You two were funny in the video. Remind me of me and my boss.

  • David is a great guy to work with.

  • very good vid. funny to but painful to watch that bolt being loosened and tightened .lmao

  • Thanks. I know what you mean. I feel your pain.

  • ;) I was here lol.

  • who is the young tech in the passenger seat

  • David rode with me.

  • and might i add...that sure is a fine, " strapping " young capacitor you got there.

  • Thanks. lol

  • you know, i've always wondered ( well, atleast when i did hvac i wondered)....they have a "start" capacitor, a " run " capacitor....so why in the hell dont they have a " walk " capacitor, or a " finish " capacitor...just doesnt seem fair to the whole cycle of movement does it??

  • Nice One!

  • Thanks.

  • good vid does it ever slow down working for the school district

  • It's always go go go. Thanks.

  • good work.

  • Thanks.

  • Dr Z is the man, if he cant fix it no one can!! LOL

  • lol

  • Tomato stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Becky asked me to stop at the vegetable market for tomatoes. lol

  • Good job, I like the way you made that clamp work.

  • Thanks. I kind of figured that it would fit without any real problem.

  • cool

  • Thanks.
