Viking metal doesn't exists. Tyr, Turisas, Equlibrium are all folk metal with viking themes. Equilbrium, Ensiferum and Amon Amarth are Meldoic Death with Viking theme. The purpose of a music genre is to group bands that sound like each together. Turisas and Amon Amarth don't actually sound like each other. E.g. Arch Enemy and AA could be compared, Turisas and Alestrom could be compared. If you believe that Viking metal is a music genre then so is 'Love metal' and 'Battle Metal'.
