in '81or '82 she came out with an album. my next door neighbor was playing it one sunny morning. i sat on her door step and listened. my neighbor had to go do some errands. she told me when u get done listening just turn off the tape player and lock the door. she came home about 4hrs later and i was still listening!!! she just shook her head.
Pity she won't get back to her roots but I guess one can say that about many other artists too. These tunes come from her prime and I'll scratch my head "why" every time I hear her new stuff.
This wasn't my favourite one of her albums but yeah she really, really is such an extremley extraordinary & rare singer, writer, musician & componist.... some of her songs will stay a lifelong with me... so thanks a thousand times for posting this !!!!
Me neither at 45.. Still, I haven't seen most of my heroes and I think disappointment has been avoided by that fact.. Fair call that RLJ would be fanfuckintastic though..
It's "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying", a cover of an old 60's song by Gerry and the Pacemakers - not to be confused by an even older song of the same name by Ray Charles.
hi,u saved me some time,thx.. could u tell me more about the vocals by RLJ, wereon an Orbital song about "little fluffy clouds" i loved it back in the late 80s/early 90s,and was she part of it or not?? i know its definatley her.....pls id love to know xx
iremon, if you find the second part of the interview, would you PLEASE email me and let me know where to find it. I'm like you, I have part 1 and 3 but can't find the part 2. I've been a Rickie Lee fan since her Chuck E days, and I'm dying to get the complete set of such a great interview special.
Thanks for this! Fantastic! I first saw her on the Flying Cowboys tour and it's still my favorite RLJ record. I'm also a documentary freak, so this is teh best!
thanks very much for uploading this - I'd never realised it existed. Rickie Lee Jones is so underrated, she's really one of the best songwriters of the modern rock era
God bless beautiful people like you (postingoldtapes) who put these long lost gems on Youtube which enables many souls to bask in the bliss of Rickie's music; plus the added bonus of her talking about the background to these creations of such wondrous music and lyrics.

People tell me she's a bit ugly.. I don't see it.. Maybe I'm in love, with her, just like Tom. I'd say she could take me home the silly girl..

The difference between her lack of confidence talking and her singing power is fascinating. I love it.
