  • Which episode has the Rockapella parody of My Girl singing about Papua New Guinea?

  • @felixthecatboy No, you wanna know who the 1 dislike was? Edgar Bronfman Jr. the most delusional businessman in the world. He acts like he owns the rights to the shows' theme song, but in fact, he doesn't.

  • inseriati(insert hocus pocus mix) this is your crime endings of (The Fog 2007) all of the Above!

  • lol, is it just me or is the audio off? lol

  • Why they don't this show on tv no more ?

  • 2:12

Does she have a shirt on?

    O_O

  • the one show on PBS that was worth watching

  • Whos the idiot that disliked this?

  • where in the hell can i find these episodes?

  • I Loved this show so much. Does anyone know whatever happened to Greg Lee, the guy who hosted it? He was da bomb

  • why they don't have show on tv no more

  • this must of been shot early 1989

  • Dude, this scoring system sucks. I remember this episode as a kid and you would think for a game show you just simply keep adding to a score not subtracting to get a higher score.

  • Why dont just continue these shows DAMN THEY WAS THE BOMB.

  • My WIFE'S name is PATTY

  • How many crimebucks at the starting of the pilot episode of the game show?

  • This episode premiered in prime time on Monday September 30, 1991.

  • I loved this show. I'm in my 50's now but still missed some of the questions.

  • pennsylvania isnt in new england FAIL!

  • Does anyone have the complete episode? (I wouldn't be asking if it weren't for WMGgate.)

  • Wooow I'm 25 in feb. This show back in the day was the bomb!!!! lol. (Pp Pp patty) that use to be my part.... Omg lol....

  • i remember this show, but i was too little to understand it.

  • I never noticed this as a kid, but Patty was STACKED!

  • anyone know where I could get .wav clips or short mp3s of the sounds the rockapella group makes during the show?

  • the girl with the fish looks and sounds like the girl that played gaby on the show ghostwriter

  • That's happens to be "Gaby" (real name: "Mayteanna Morales").

  • The only part of this scoring system that I didn't understand was taking the extra five points away, I think I understood why they took 10 points away.

  • 6:08-6:17

    Tubbie is SO lying.

    ;)

  • I grew up watching this. I was OBSESSED with it. I bought the board game and the whole bit.

  • Why do they use multiple choice?! Let the kids guess, actually test their knowledge!

  • "Im a gifted child...can I have my herring back?"

  • i miss this show

  • This game would be even better if they weren't given 'options.'

  • it would be cool if I could go back in time when this show was popular and on TV

  • I loved this show when I was little!!! I miss things like this!!!

  • I FUCKING LOVE THIS SHOW <3 BLACK FEMALE CHIEF FTW! She was hella funny.

  • @electronicoffee Ah the late Lynn Thigpin. Great actress. I know she died a couple of years ago.

  • She passed away in March 2003 of some sort of cerebral hemorrage at the age of 54.

  • Love this show. I remember this! :D

  • Everyday at 4:00 I'd come home from school, and watch this, then at 4:30, Ghostwriter. Greg played the teacher in the Max Mouse case in Ghostwriter.

  • @ajd1211 When i came home from school here in Indiana it was end of Reading Rainbow, Carmen Sandiego (my fav), Ghostwriter, Square One, and then Mark Kistler's Imagination Station! Great shows! Miss them all!

  • I remember this and Mathman and Bill Nye... back in the day when kids cared a little more about geography and science and less about Miley Cyrus. I used to watch this all the time, man!

  • GREAT show ! ! ! I loved this show as a kid.

    MANY THANKS.

  • geez, this brings back so many memories... i remember my brother and I watching this, bill nye the science guy, and the magic school bus after we got home from school.. man those were some good times

  • this was one of my favorite shows as a kid. Brings back a lot of memories.

  • I loved this show as a kid. This brings back fond memories thanks for posting :)

  • holy nostalgia! Yeah - quality kid's programming ended at the turn of the century. Has anyone seen the Boohbahs? It's ridiculous how useless that show is for children. Plus they're terrifying. Granted - the show isn't aimed at the viewers of Carmen Sandiego .. but still! Geography for the win.

  • OH my word! It's Gabby from Ghostwriter!

  • I know! OH MY GOSH!!!! My favorite in Ghostwriter!

  • I cannot believe I've been deprived of this show! How did I miss this during my childhood??? Ah well, here's to Halloween.

  • We need good kid shows like this today.

  • No kidding. Remember when tv used to teach you stuff and still be fun?

  • @samfisher874 I know right

  • Did the deed? Uh oh, lol

  • Holy crap! I used to watch and play this game.. haha...

  • lol I love how serious the chief is about catching Carmen Sandiego. She really stressed that point. lol

  • The opening clip, reminded me of LMAD Door 4 when the siren went off.

  • Oh do I LOVE nostalgia!

  • i will have followed with Rockapella while i was wating on the chief to introduce me as a gumshoe

  • It can be cuz Look at the first case of GW and this chick, they look exactly the same!

Where are the credits to this episode?!?

  • WAIT! isn't the girl with the fishing hat Gaby from Ghostwriter???

  • Yeah, thats what I was thinking too...lol

  • Yeah, isn't that Mayteana Morales?

  • Yep!

  • Yeah, and I think I heard Alex's voice doing the Toyota sponsorship in the beginning

  • yeah i think that was his voice

  • Alex who?!

  • Alex from Ghostwriter

  • funny, thats the first thing that came to my mind also....i guess certain sounds just stay with ya

  • The only one I want to see is Auld Lang Gone.

  • (*in the tune of Rockapella*): THE PILOT!

  • I wish this game show would be remade today...

  • Did anyone know how to be a contestant on the show?

  • You had to live in New York

  • Yeah I really don't like this scoring system. Though Rockapella looks hott in street clothes mmm :-)

  • I agree!)

  • Ditto. And I thought I was the only one who thought so =)

  • yeah I mean I have nothing against their usual attire though

  • That fly sounds like Morocco Mole's voice actor :o

  • I loved this show. They need to put this on the game show nextwork.

  • WARNING: Heavy editing likely if it were to hit GSN

  • I'm guessing due to need for commercials?

  • And bad commercial edits, like they do on millionaire.

  • Si, senor.

  • This ep originally aired on December 18, 1991.

  • omg.......

  • GOD, I REMEMBER THIS SHOW! Whoever uploaded these clips, Thanks and KEEP 'EM COMIN'!!!!!!!

  • You mean... He found a job outside of Barney? That's great!

Perhaps being friends with a purple dinosaur has it's advantages.

  • He's not the only one. Selena Gomez now the star of "The Wizards of Waverly Place"

  • It was different because you lost points (even if you got the question right)! You lost 10 points for getting the right answer, and 15 if you gave the wrong answer.

  • Despite having watched this video before, this is the first time I noticed the disclaimer at the beginning (about the different scoring system).

  • That dude that played Michael on Barney

  • You mean, he was a contestant on the pilot? Did you hear that, folks? We've got a teenage Jack Campion on our hands!

  • what?

  • Comment removed

  • Wow interesting I wonder what happend to that kid

  • 1 thing, how the hell would the viewers have known that the scoring system is different since this was the pilot?

  • It aired two-thirds through the first season. In fact, most of the earliest taped shows were pushed back towards the end of the first season. I remember being pretty surprised when I first saw this never thinking they'd air a pilot.

  • @Wheeloffortunefan999

    They wouldn't.

  • Boy this was a totally awesome show when i was a kid. I'm 19 now and i still remember the theme song. i wish PBS or KQED or KTEH here in california would re show all the episodes.

  • Aren't we all glad they changed the rules?

  • Interesting sidenote: 100 million lira = $84.359.70 at the time this ep first aired.

  • meaning the viewers.

  • LOL! they put a disclaimer at the beginning. (how the heck would they know that the scoring system was different?)

  • The pilot o this very popular kids show looks similar but different. I'm little bit torn between the scoring systems used on the show; on one hand the pilots scoring system makes the shows tone more real & on another hand it goes against the traditional game show rules by having points subtracted no matter what kind of an answer you give. The setup seems a bit awkward in terms of the placement of the monitor & chiefs office but it was the pilot however. So the main game was uusual but fine.

  • Couple things here that're interesting to point out. First, in the pilots and some of the early episodes, the gumshoes don't wear hats when they're first introduced. Also, although they were colored in during post-production a few months into the run, the locales the we saw on the screen that the gumshoes had to chose from for the clues were originally in shades of green (We notice that they leave on of these in during the final clue in this episode).

  • What happen to great show like this on TV??? If more kids and teens get interested in this type of education show, there wouldn't be a "Miss South Carolina" case. There would be less clueless kids on geographical knowledge!

Sadly, kids these days are into game shows about sex, greed, and violence (i.e. Tila Tequlia show, Moment of Truth, etc).

  • P-P-P Patty! Ba-Ba-Da-Ba-Do-Ba-Da-Ba Patty Larceny!

  • My favorite line is: "This is Patty Larceny! P-P-P Patty!".

  • Hey do you also have the purloined pole?

  • No offence but Rockepella looks kinda good when their not in their suspenders

  • They should not have put this episode in rotation, I remember tuning into this episode halfway in and not understanding why things seemed odd to me. At least the concept of the crimebucks did make sense in that it does cost money to travel, but people (especially kids) are more accustomed to scoring points for right answers which is why they flipped that for the series.

BTW, was there another pilot with this format featuring Double Trouble?

  • Yes, "The Disoriented Express". In it, they stole the TGV Train from France.

  • Lynn looks better in red than green.

  • In my opinion, she looks equally well in either color.

  • I wonder if The Case of the Purloined Pole is the earliest recorded episode with RoboCrook.

  • Maybe, although if I remember correctly, Robocrook had has traditional green background when he was revealed on the Jailtime Challenge board, whereas in The Time Bandit, he was missing it. So I'll guess we'll know for sure when more of Season 1 becomes available.

  • Patty still had a colored background in an episode recorded BEFORE the Time Bandit.

  • Well it probably should be the first episode (because Rockapella is in their street clothes for the entire episode)

  • Wow...I only remember seeing this once when I was much younger...and not understanding why the points were so screwed up (and the cheif was in a different office and in a different outfit...and Greg stands on the "wrong" side of the monitor!)

The kid-actually a girl, btw-that played Newton (and had the fish) during one clue is none other than Mayteana Morales, who went on to play Gaby in another popular PBS kid's show of the era..."Ghostwriter"!

  • does anybody know or have the episode when rockapella sings "the brute's the creeps tonight" (lion sleeps tonight) its an episode where rockapella sings in their street clothes...thank you so much for posting this, and any responses to my queery.

  • What date is this pilot?

  • Aired December 18, 1991. They don't give the recording dates for Season 1.

  • I really hate that fly

  • I started wathing this when I was in pre-school. I had a tape full of this, Newton's Apple clips, and Bill Nye. Thanks to vgcf, GameShowNetwork (nice AFHV stuff) and chrisvision07. Keep up the good work, and (As Lynn Thigpin) I salute you! (raise eyebrow)

  • "hmm nothing like a polite threat."

  • Is this the first ever episode?

  • Probably the first taped episode but it was the 58th aired episode.

  • Was the host a warn up person before a taping of Double Dare.

  • Yes, but before that he was co-host of Nick's Total Panic. I used to have a tape full of that show but I ended up recording over that with Carmen Sandiego. I saw him later on a sports network similar to FSN interviewing surfers but he's pretty much disappeared from the public eye.

  • Yep, Greg Lee was also the host of a show called "Nitro!" on ESPN as well.

  • He still has a very extensive career in TV but he works behind camera. He works and has worked on many Nickelodeon shows as a cameraman and producer.

  • Thanks for the info! Glad to hear he's still making a career in the field and not selling real estate. It should be noted he was also the voice of the principal on Doug for many years, not that us game show fans care much about that.

  • Wow talk about a weird case of Irony

  • This is why I love the first Season of World more than I do other seasons. They experimented with the show's format a lot, and it's quite evident not only in the Pilots but several of the earlier episodes as well.

  • Well, well, instead of the usual Phone Tap, a ransom note is used! Cool!

  • What does it say?

  • "If it isn't too much trouble, please bring 100,000,000 lire to the Via Del La Scrofa. I'll be enjoying fettucine at Alfredo's. If I don't get the money by the time they serve the cappuccino, Apso will become a little dog gone. Molto grazia. I mean, thank you so very much. Ciao!" That's what it said!

  • Hmmmm!

  • Nothing like a polite threat!

  • Nothing like a white thread!

  • That's "nothin' like a polite threat."! Not "Nothing like a polite thread!"!

  • I see!

  • Hmmmm... What?!

  • I don't believe it either!

  • Oh, GameShowNetwork has it. Type in the name, and I think that's it look for him (and Carmen lol) in the United States.

  • At last, the earliest recorded episode of WITWICS! Wonderful!

  • Yeah! The one with what has to be the first bonus game win.

  • And one of only 2 wins at the Map of the USA w/the flags and clues. (other is unknown, but is not Roamin' Roman Ruin, AFAIK)
