NBC News gave the news better than anyother broadcast outlet at that time, because the year before I defected from CBS when Rather replaced Cronkite, but the team of Brokaw and Mudd, just did not jell, yet Roger and Tom got along well, and their friendship goes back to when Mudd worked the Senate beat for CBS and Brokaw was Whte House correspondent during Nixon's second term and Watergate and Ford's presidency.
That's the NBC Radio News sounder... Used to hear that on the radio at the top of the hour when I was a kid. NBC Radio News doesn't exist anymore.. I liked that sounder.
@josefmrouse No, it's how they used to do it....it was dramatic....like he's reading up on all the news until the last second. Then WHAM! He's ready to jump into action to tell you all about it!
If this was 1982, then it must've been when the then-regular "Voice of NBC News," Bill Hanrahan, was on vacation, given future "Voice..." Howard Reig's doing the intro here.

I agree, NBC was underrated in the 70's and 80's, ABC was also good. CBS was overrated in my opinion, even though I like Cronkite

Nice, but strange without the mission. Sorry about the accidental one star rating...i meant to click play, but the mouse was over 1 star...

Michael Douglas' voice is not worthy, but what the hell, they may as well being doing the whole damn newscast from DNC headquarters anyway.

Strange hearing an NBC Nightly News intro without "The Mission".

It is 1982. Going off of Roger Mudd's top story, of Iran entering Iraq, this was from 13 July 1982.

Ah. So I was right, Bill Hanrahan WAS off that night . . .
