  • thumbs up if this is your favrite clip.

  • You know you're a bizarre man when this is in your recommended videos.

  • I'm scared.

  • Monty python make me proud to be British.

  • Most trippy thing ever...

  • ORIGINAL LADY GAGA

  • what the fuck is that elephant thing!?

  • The Fish are the ones yelling out the answers..in the tank at the end...

  • weirded*

  • @MrCallum204 same here, the first time I watched this I was kind of weirdest out for a couple days

  • 0:12 it's lady gaga!

  • It's the lens. Its a fisheye lens what there filming with.

  • @AcousticJW It was a fisheye lens?! Then....then....we ARE the fish!

...it all makes sense now! So very little sense!

  • Oh hi, Lady Gaga.

  • this properly freaks me out!

  • 'And it went wherever I did go'. So Terry Jones had either carried it and has lost it/ put it somewhere or he has eaten it. The fact that he has whiskers painted on suggests that he is meant to be cat-like and a cat, of course, would eat a fish. So I think that Terry Jones ate it but I wonder why he wonders where it went. But the point of it surely is that you can never be sure of the where and the why.

  • @Picnicl Geez, I want whatever you're having ...

  • @Motorskallen Analytical skills and imagination. Some people might think I looked in to it too deeply but the Pythons were/are extraordinarily intelligent and fearless about displaying their intellect compared to most comedians so the potential depth of their references cannot be underestimated.

  • @Picnicl come on, it's Monthy Python. Not Sigmund Freud or a painting by Dalí. I admit that this particular scetch is a bit weird, but it's still suppose to be funny.

  • @Motorskallen There's no point in us arguing but comedy does sometimes try to achieve that kind of Dali-like artiness and I think that the Pythons did it on occasion. If you're familiar with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer you will see that devotion to surrealness in some of their work too. Just because it's comedy and is veyr funny doesn't mean that it doesn't deserve to be spoken of seriously. Comedy's a serious business for the very best comics.

  • @Motorskallen Analytical skills & imagination. Some people might think I looked in to it too deeply but the Pythons were/are extraordinarily intelligent and fearless about displaying their intellect so the potential depth of their references cannot be underestimated.I just want to add that none of the Pythons were frequent drug users. Some may never have taken drugs. Drugs would have been contrary to their logical frame of mind - they were like the modern day equivalent of Lewis Carroll.

  • locker. Is the locker supposed to be 'the cupboard'? Is it in there? All he says is 'wouldn't you like to know'. Then another waiter comes along and, at the same time, a man on the right back moves something around . 'It's gone under the sofa' says a voice. A voice says something about one of the drawers in the bureau. More smoke. The elephant waiter raises his trunk to the edge of the frame, some thing about vichysoise and 'it's hidden in ... trousers'. A fruitless treasure hunt of the absurd.

  • Terry Jones immediately puts his left arm down and points away with his right as if he has either just managed to pick up and move the fish himself or as if that happened earlier. The orange theme is continued in Chapman's gloves. And all kinds of things act as distractions - the perspective , the people on the right, the objects and a locker with a slight amount of steam coming from it. 'Yes it's in the cupboard' say the voices in the background and then a large amount of steam emits from the

  • It really does make you think and one of the mysteries of it is whether any of it was designed as a deliberate red herring. You see, it's bizarre and yet it wouldn't be quite as bizarre if it was completely bizarre. So it's set in a rather solid looking old English house. It's a bit Rocky Horror Picture Show actually. When you look at the fireplace, the burning embers look a bit like a goldfish. To complicate matters further, you see one of Terry Jones's shoes and it's orange like a goldfish.

  • I ate it.

  • this is mindfuck

  • i found the fish, it's in the waiter dragon moose anteater things cocktails

  • A bit psychedelic no ? I found this scene too strange.

  • My mascara is actually running down my face im laughing so much

"and it went wherever i did goooo"

  • Whenever I am feeling down, whenever I am feeling blue, I can always look this video up, and I know it will make the coulds go away.

  • Genius.

  • Couldnt hear what the fish were saying :[

  • why is that man dressed like lady gaga?!?!?!

  • @w1ck3dz0d1ac That man is Graham Chapman, you idiot. And it's not supposed to make sense.

  • @avalanchesuperstar I was making fun of GAGA not Graham. Get a sense of humor that extends beyond the 80s. I was watching this shit on MTV with the young ones before GAGA was even on the map. So BUGGER OFF!!!

  • @w1ck3dz0d1ac To be fair, this is the internet and all sarcasm is lost through such comments, especially with no knowledge as to the original poster's age or interests. To assume that it was a real question was fair, and to be offended by someone belittling a fantastic man like Graham like so .... seems reasonable to me. Graham looks way better in a corset and stockings!

  • Soooo awesome. My favorite Python movie

  • The fish sure like this one!

  • Huh... Advert for "Fish Pedicure" at top of page

    ...Damn..I had something for this...

  • Id pay good money to see this in 3D

  • Fun Fact: Graham Chapman was the inspiration for Marilyn Manson

  • @popecorkyI FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

  • @popecorkyI and lady gaga by the looks of it !

  • This is has always been one of my favourite Python moment. Potentially because Graham Chapman looks amazing in stockings.

  • Somehow I saw a version of this without the off-screen yelling. It made it so much better.

  • the original troll arms

  • Lady Gaga should credit Graham Chapman since it is so obvious where she got her fashion sense from lol.

  • that guy turning that steering wheel off to the right is a straight up G

  • fuck that fish

  • there is no scene in the entire cinematographic register that describes better what being high as fuk feels like than that scene!!!!

  • >Mfw Lady Gaga

  • Dear Eric Idle,

How can you act with boxing gloves on?

  • @PoisonRainVornado

    That's Graham Chapman.

  • @666brandon666 Really? Looks/sounds a LOT like Eric Idle. Eh, but he's in drag, so what do i know at first glance?

  • Python's most whacked scene ever...LMFAO

  • 0:10 Oh god it's lady gaga's out-take to one of her music videos!! ><

  • what just happened

  • wut ._.

  • god damnit. damn you anon

  • Acid is not cool, ok kids

  • After all these years, I STILL haven't found that freaking fish...

  • @sonicfilms123 your post got 42 likes, maybe that answers the question

  • my life is complete

  • Lady Gaga is nothing in comparison with MP, Graham especially - she ain't weird at all.

    I didn't find the fish :(

  • how the hell is the lady gaga comment the highest rated comment? wtf, that has nothing to do with monty python, and this movie was made about 3 decades before she was even around

  • @Boognish89 he does look little bit like a lady gaga

  • @Quex01 or does lady gaga look a bit like this guy?

  • @Boognish89 yes!

  • I first watched this sober, at home, after my parents had left for church. I had to sneak behind their backs if I wanted to watch anything like this. When I saw this scene I broke out laughing and rewatched it a good 20 times. Monty Python, you are the best thing to ever happen to me.

  • the fish is in one of the weapons of mass destruction in iraq. This is fact!

  • It's in the frying pan on the cooker!!!

  • And it went - Wherever IIII did gooo....

  • What the fuck did I just watch.....

  • This is best experienced when on LSD, as most things are. I believe that was the purpose of this scene as most people who went to see this film in the theaters in the early 70s were whacked out of their minds.

  • @stimpp no, not everyone in the seventies was high, nor does this make any more sense when you're high. Monty python is quite enjoyable without foreign substance..

  • @2pacsrevenge

    That's true...but a bit of weed doesn't hurt the experience :D

  • @stimpp The people who went to see this film in the early 70s? They truly MUST have been "whacked out of their minds", considering the fact it was made in 1983!

  • WTF!! IT'S LADY GAGA!!!

  • this is why men are cooler than women.

  • @TheBeatlesRoooock that's true. women are definietely hotter.

  • why the FUCK was this in my recommendations?????

  • @CheaterFilms were you watching monty python clips?

  • @TheBradyrulez Mabay?

  • @CheaterFilms well there you go

  • This officially one of the weirdest things I've ever seen in my life.

  • Only an American could come up with such a moronic comment. And its all well and good to say England lost its good men in the war, after all the US was sitting on their asses for the majority of it. British comedy is far to complex for the simple minded american, perhaps they should add in a toilet flushing. add to that fat slob drinking a beer and insulting his wife, as he farts.

  • @canadiannorton nationalism is as idiotic,a s if all americans, all brits, or all canadians were the same

  • Plutarcos

  • This is as bent as python gets - can anyone come up with a zannier python scene than this??

  • You must understand, the English lost most of there good men in wars,,This is what is left in the Gene pool on the other side of the pond.

Also must be why Jolly ol Englands most popular name for newborn baby boys is Muhammad / Mohammed.

  • @zaq4267 You must learn to understand the difference between their, there and they're. You must also understand that you only use one comma, and then put a space after it. That space can not be replaced by another comma. You must also, also understand that ol' is an abbreviation of old, and seeing as the 'd' is missing, you must put an apostrophe after the 'l' to show that.

I could go on about how stupid Americans are, but i have no proof that you're American. I'll just end by saying fuck you.

  • Waht Teh Fawk

  • LOL

  • now we know from where LadyGaga got her style...

  • @BullGuy87 Fuck yeh man, like shes original.... Love you Monty <3

  • RIP Real Quiet

  • Family Guy did a parody of this and it was awesome.

  • My head just exploded

  • wtf.productions

  • The most scary thing is that whoever created this was probably NOT on drugs at the time......

  • I also thought of Lady Gaga when I re-watched TMOL yesterday... I wonder if she saw this when she was a child and it stuck to her mind? :)

  • Little did we know, Graham Chapman never died, he went into hiding and came back as Lady Gaga

  • Who cares about the fish? I just lost my sanity!

  • the fact tha its in 3D is a little distracting

  • Comment removed

  • WTF? When did Meaning of Life morph into a David Lynch movie?

  • @aquagrl63 in the middle roughly

  • That elephant-man gave me nightmares when I first saw this movie.

    God damn it, itøs scary

  • Graham Chapman has more style than Lady Gaga ever XD

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I pee myself a bit everytime I watch it (LOL!) - but, can't for the life of me figure out why!!! This routine has stayed in my memory banks since I first saw it as a child. I've tried to reinact it to others but get nothing except blank stares, and "Gee, I guess you had to be there" responses. Surrealistic, "Theater of the Absurd" at its best. Maybe we just all share a common "whacked-out" gene. If so, we all need to connect in "whacky land".

  • Yell out so that all the cinema can hear you! Haha xD

  • Were they high or somethin?

  • monty python is the shit!!!!

  • What the hell is this?! This almost makes this Disney Channel look funny.

  • I can totally relate

  • The elephant is the most scariest thing EVAR!

  • It's the mature version of Peewee's Playhouse!

  • 0:43 ... priceless x'D

  • This bit always made me laugh without knowing what it's all about. It might just be pure brilliant nonsense. BTW, Chapman must have got that look from Daryl Hannah in Blade Runner.

  • lol, it looks like a dream. The first time I saw it, I was very late in the dark, and I didn´t know if it was real.

  • Gosh, I cannot for the life of me imagine who could've directed this little segment

  • hahahahahaha

    first time i saw this

    laughed for liek 30mins

    OOHH MY GODDDDD

    SOOOOO GOOOODD!!!!!!!!

  • this would probably be much clearer if I was tripping on acid.

  • @TheArneDude I don't think so, if the first time you saw this was on acid, you would be one hell of a confused fish... :-)

  • Holy fuckin' shit, this is scary.

  • what did i just see!?!

  • What made this so funny was the look on my straight laced friend I dragged to this movie back then... This scene as weird as it is, is priceless! The sex ed and the sperm is sacred, Eric Idle as a waiter bringing you out to a field and then saying "well.. fuck you!".... watching the reaction of disgust on my friends face made me crack up even more!

  • I love the double entendre' of the faucet nipples!!Water is life to fish as Mother's milk ,from the tit,is life to nursing mammals. The sub-mariner dutifully at his post,on the right cracks me up too.The cocktail wielding butler is the "elephant in the room " for me.Any clues on his significance? The comments hurled from the audience, eeeerrrr fishtank are AWESOME!!!Python FOREVER!!

  • Does anyone know how he does the armss?

  • @Stoxie15994

When I saw the fingers move I was a bit taken back, very cool illusion. I've seen toys for kids, like, Terminator looking robot gloves with independently movable fingers. Those toy things use mini pulleys and cables that have pull-rings for each of the fingers. It could be something like that used here.

  • I watched this film first on shrooms, and couldn't decide whether any of this was real or hallucination. Watched it again, stoned, and almost cried. WTF is that elephant????

  • OMG this is 10x funnier after watching a video for my art class of this weird interpretive movement stuff...its seriously more ridiculous than this and ppl make a living off of it

  • this is seriously THE funniest thing i ever saw

  • I'm a biggest fan of Graham's tap corset <3

  • I find it bit creepy like Salvador Dali abstract style...

  • A Regular Day In The Life Of the Common European, Seen Here.

  • what.

  • is it just me or does the guy in a blonde wig & corset thing look a bit like lady gaga?

  • @Chicklo11 ... Lady GaGa stole the look, damn her! lol

  • @Chicklo11 its just you

  • life doesn't get any fucking weirder or better than this

  • i think i need someone to talk me down

  • WHAT AM I SMOKIIIING?!

  • Find the fish? Oh I see where Pixar got the inspiration for their underwater movie.

  • EPIC WIN EPIC EPIC WIN

  • if i had glorious arms like that i would play wit everyones nips

  • I FOUND THE FISH!!!!!

  • WHERE?!?

  • "I picked a hell of a day to stop sniffing glue..."

  • About crystal meth?

  • Why did I watch a clockwork orange before this? I dont know, but I seem to enjoy this skit a lot more now!

  • LoL, this too surreal even fore Monty Python

  • holy shit i was buggin watching this video

  • And it went... wherever I...did GO.

  • Show me this clip when I'm high on a bad mescaline trip and I WILL DIE FROM FEAR, SCREAMING!

  • A FISH, A FISH, A FISHY OHHHHHH

  • Looks like a nightmare of mine..

  • ooooh fishy fishy fishy fish

  • reminds me of rocky horror :3

  • I love this bit.

  • It's been over 5 years since I first saw this movie, and now, I've finally found the fish. It's lying in the fireplace right at the beginning.

Those long arms will haunt me for life.

  • IT'S IN HIS TROUSERS

  • The she looks like lady Gaga... X)

  • everytime I see this part of The Meaning of Life I think about the naughty chemists sketch in MPFC where Michael Palin says to Eric Idle "...a fish requisit-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t"

I love Graham in this, and Terry... wow, they're at their craziest :))))

  • Freaky.

  • You cant just watch only this video to understand the humor of Monty Python. They healed the world with their material and this tiny little excerpt from Meaning of Life is just a fraction of the humour from the video. I highly recommend everyone watches it.

  • Flood -> here :(

  • Gay

  • teh fl00d wuz hear.

  • FLOOD WAS HERE!!!

  • FLUH WUZ HEAR

  • @Kotze07

Acturally... No, not really. The point of this skit was to not make even the slightest amount of sense. The Pythons have admitted that it is one of the most non-sensical things they ever wrote.

The joke is that there is not joke. The point is that there is no point. It is hilarious because it isn't the least bit funny.
