LOL @ fucking bosu ball push ups, one leg balance and reach, and tube walks. Not a single squat, deadlift, or real press to be found. Good thing that skill and talent is the vast majority of being a good player, not fitness.
Idiot, all squats, deadlifts, and single bar bench presses, all have one thing in common...they all favor the dominant side of your body, as well as taking away from a little thing athletes like to call RANGE OF MOTION. The reason Steve Nash was able to have one of his best seasons ever at the age of 35 (old for NBA players) was because of all the core and stability work that he does with the phoenix trainers. Real fitness has very little to do with how much you can press.
But I guess you know more than say, the guy who makes six figures a year to keep athletes in tip top shape. Just go finish your HGH Omelette, and leave fitness conversation to the people who don't have numerous shirtless pics up on their myspace profiles. But don't worry, I'm sure you'll make a Porsche dealership real happy when you're 40.
@azrae20 Dominant side of your body? Limiting ROM? What? The simple fact is that these players are excellent at basketball in spite of this training, not because of it. I don't care how much they make or what cereal box they got their "certification" out of, plenty of top level fitness coaches are retarded as shit. Plenty are excellent. But hey, if you think single arm bosu ball push ups followed up with some wicked sick swiss ball stability work is the best way to get fit, be my guest.
As a Basketball Coach, and former player, I can assure you that being talented at basketball is not the only reason these guys are in the NBA. These guys do high intensity versions of these workouts, and spend countless hours in the gym refining even the smallest aspects of their game. It is not even an argument to say that single bar bench press' favor the dominant arm and limit range of motion, it is a proven fact. The workouts they're assigned have more to do with explosivness
and overall muscle endurance, so that they can withstand an 82 game, 150+days season. You're type of fitness thinking is the same as every person who thinks that mass has anything to do with true strength or explosiveness. It is very telling that Grant Hill and Shaq both came to the Suns and had some of the healthiest seasons of their careers. And I can assure you, the Suns trainer did not get his certificate in a cereal box, he is one of the most respected in sports!
@azrae20 I've seen plenty of huge chest, huge biceps guys who can't even deadlift 315 or pull a sled, so believe me, I know that mass doesn't always tell the whole story. If they're focused mainly on strength, explosiveness, and endurance, why not incorporate Olympic lifts in addition to this? Some heavy snatches and C&Js would be far better than some stupid standing cable row and would not interfere with ROM at all.
I've heard nothing but great things Im a baller and Im trying to get in the best shape I can I've heard nothing but great things specifically about the Suns training staff. They are one of the best or the best in the league ask Grant Hill and Shack they even got him in shape..and I'm a laker fan! Thanks for posting and sharing
To the idiot below who is moaning about him not showing specific excercises, get a grip you can't expect him to do all that in 6 freaking minutes. He cleary said that normally the workout is done in body parts per day fuckface!
yeh. lucky the sun's fitness adviser listen to people's comments on youtube.
i guess listening to youtube comments is how they got nash's back working again, or grant hill's number of injuries to fade, or shaq's fitness better, or amar'es knee to hold out.
whole lotta love
