It does not matter at all what anyone writes here. DADT has been repealed, and it is done and over with for good. Gays now serve openly in the US military, and they will continue to do so. Therefore, for all of those who opposed the repeal of DADT, you lost and you have lost permanently.

I had never even heard the word transsexual until I was 12 or 13. @postaltraining Thanks for the concern. There have been 3 medically documented cases of breast cancer in transsexual women. There is no evidence that the rate for transwomen is any higher than for other women. Still, doctors always make mention of it, because any amount of estrogen can fuel breast cancer. That's just the perils of being female, 1 in 4 will get breast cancer. I've always taken estradiol, the safest form, BTW. No women in my family have it either.
@horrormonger the difference is that physiologically you are not a woman, no matter what you were and are. so the fact you are dumping loads of estrogen into yourself puts you at much higher risk for many kinds of cancer & problems than any woman, whose body is built to have estrogen as a daily condition.

Really, there isn't a whole lot of difference between men and women, on a cellular level. Oh, and women only have high estrogen levels once a month, most times its progesterone in abundance.

And if you want to go the menstruating or pregnancy route, then I will say there are many women who are infertile and many others who have issues with their periods and ovaries. Most are hormonally related or simply developmental issues, like my own.

The fact that the hormones provoke the exact same responses as in any other woman should be proof enough of that. We all have the ability to go either way when we are forming in the womb, and it is simply determined by a combination of chromosomes and a washing of hormones. When the two don't coincide, it creates issues like transsexualism.

DNA is the same, how it differentiates is totally up to chemical processes, mostly controlled by hormones. DNA is not a deifnitive! Scientists have made *homosexual* lab rats consistantly by changing the hormones of the second wash.

They separate male and female baracks to keep soldiers from fooling around and to minimize sexual harassment as much as possible. How are you supposed to do that with homosexuals? You can't. @rgorrell47 i've interpreted everything he's said as being neutral. he doesn't see them as "gays", but as individuals. On the issue of marriage, he believes that it should be up to the church and that you shouldn't need a license or an "OK" by the government to get married.
While he does sort of agree with the "don't ask don't tell", he mainly believes that if you're behavior is disruptive, whether you're gay OR straight, it should be dealt with.

Booting someone out the military for saying they are gay helps our military how? A straight person can say he/she is straight without fear of being kicked out. I'm sure there are times when a gay man or woman has someone figure out he or she is gay, and then it gets around, and the next thing you know, that person gets kicked out. I can't think of any real examples but how does that help us during a war? It doesn't, and to act like this isn't an issue that should be dealt with is wrong.

I had never even heard the word transsexual until I was 12 or 13. @postaltraining Thanks for the concern. There have been 3 medically documented cases of breast cancer in transsexual women. There is no evidence that the rate for transwomen is any higher than for other women. Still, doctors always make mention of it, because any amount of estrogen can fuel breast cancer. That's just the perils of being female, 1 in 4 will get breast cancer. I've always taken estradiol, the safest form, BTW. No women in my family have it either.

@postaltraining Hey, that's your take on it. Every cell in the body is equipped to process estrogen and testosterone, man or woman. I simply switched one off in favor of the other. Really, there isn't a whole lot of difference between men and women, on a cellular level. There is no real increased cancer risk, but no matter what happens to me, at least I can die w/ a smile on my face, now. Oh, and women only have high estrogen levels once a month, most times its progesterone in abundance.

nothing is a "change" from one thing to another unless the result is a fully functional example of it. anything short of fully functional is simply altering yourself from what you were to something else, a new category, but definitely not a woman.

@postaltraining My genitalia functions just fine, with over 6 inches of depth to it. And if you want to go the menstruating or pregnancy route, then I will say there are many women who are infertile and many others who have issues with their periods and ovaries. Most are hormonally related or simply developmental issues, like my own.

@postaltraining Yes, I have given up on the idea of God because there is simply no proof of one. Yet, it's not an issue because I still have my own moral code and ideals that keep me a very grounded person. Gone are the days of depression and hateful feelings, life has never felt more fulfilling. I almost always have a smile on my face (especially since getting rid of that nasty testosterone). Truthfully, if you met me, you wouldn't be able to help but like me. :)

@postaltraining Oh, and aren't the SRS images amazing? Did you see any of Dr. Brassard or Dr. Suporn's work? Thank the Gods for these people and their amazing talents! I really don't care WHAT their motivations are, they ultimately help people, which is all that matters. Aside, I'm Native American (blood member Monacan Indian) and we have a long history of transsexual ancestors, who were valued and revered in our culture. Many cultures have actually looked up to transsexuals throughout history!

@postaltraining Well, you keep insisting I'm not female and I keep interjecting how I am. Thing is, regardless of what I may be, I am treated as a woman in every aspect of my life, which is just fine by me. :) If I ran into you out, you would most definitely refer to me as one, as well. I normally don't go around even talking trans issues, because they rarely come up in the course of my daily events. I like like any other girl. BUT there are always some people out there who need enlightening!

@postaltraining If one couldn't "flip switches" then I wouldn't have responded to the hormones so well. I wouldn't have C cup breasts. The fact that the hormones provoke the exact same responses as in any other woman should be proof enough of that. We all have the ability to go either way when we are forming in the womb, and it is simply determined by a combination of chromosomes and a washing of hormones. When the two don't coincide, it creates issues like transsexualism.

@horrormonger you are partially correct- everyone starts out as an "either" but there is a large difference from the change that happens inside of the womb to determine gender and deciding to do your darndest to "change" gender after 15, 20 30 years of physical maturity of the opposite sex.
no matter what doctors say, infer or guess, they have no idea the trouble they are starting introducing massive amounts of opposite sex hormones into a body on an intended-to-be-permanent basis.

@postaltraining Please, you wouldn't say that to someone who was intersex, XX/XY hermaphroditic, or born with incomplete genitals who had surgery. Apparently, you just like to try to get to people and try to hurt their feelings. I know, sometimes I feel the same when it is an apparent bigot, but I have found that it is best to kill people with kindness. It really gets under their skin!

@postaltraining There are now transsexual women well into their 60's and 70's, I recently saw a few on a documentary about a surgeon who was doing operations under the table many decades ago. They seemed healthy and happy and were married with families. NOW, I implore you to please study into fetal development and you will see that the genitals all start out the same. BTW, I am in the medical field and nationally certified at what I do, so all this has always fascinated me, anyways!

@horrormonger To be scholarly and accurate, you must site the name of that documentary . A study on fetal development cannot say what you claim. "Start out the same," you say? This is only try of embiromic cells that begin as clusters. But the DNA is already there,and includies gender . As long as an embryo is viable, it continues to grow into a male or female human being with that same DNA. We are all born with certain propensities: We choose how or whether we act on them.

@AllieVienna Not a problem. Here's a presentation, given to the American Medical Association which details this. DNA is the same, how it differentiates is totally up to chemical processes, mostly controlled by hormones. DNA is not a deifnitive! I believe that is why some types of twins do not look exactly the same. The fetus goes through two hormonal washes, which can definitely affect gender. Scientists have made *homosexual* lab rats consistantly by changing the hormones of the second wash.
