  • the vibes are really sticking out :/

  • Nice

  • :16 DIRECTOR NEEDS TO CONTROL HIS HORMONES...

  • nuts guys

  • Be careful on staying in tune on those high D's trumpets :D

  • holy barri

  • too bad this song is frikin hard, and only the big phat band can play it perfectly.

  • cool music

  • fantastic

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!! :D

  • i love the condutor lol

  • This is not too fast, I have no idea what you are all talking about...

  • HOLY BARI ITS THE MOST HOG OF A BARI I HAVE SEEN!!!!!! thats a complement btw, I love bari sax, and he is a beast thats awesome

  • How do you do this w/ a marching band? At one of our competitions someone did the Gordon Goodwin show and iono if it had this particular song in it but i just remember that it sounded kinda bad. We talked about it on our way home w/ our band director and other jazz band memebers and we all agreed jazz and marching don't fit to well together. buy yeah nice vid i wanna see if i can get my band director to do it for this year or our last concert itd be hella fun.

  • we only did one gordon goodwin song... and 2 other totally different songs...

we did it cause we fell in love with the song, not to show off or anything, the band director did it as a present to the whole band since he was leaving so yea...

but idk people do jazz for marching band, marching band is an art and there isn't a "marching band" genre... so yea, sorry to disagree with you, maybe that band sucked :\

  • wouldn't marches be the " marching band" genre

  • That's probably because Gordon Goodwin has a habit a writing above a basic high school level.

  • that bari is a monster

  • played this for marching band, it was AWESOME... got us the highest score there :)

  • how did you guys play it?

    was it your field show?

  • we tweaked it a bit... so it was able to be marched. I mean we cut out bits and pieces but it was still 4-5 min long

yea, it was a hard piece to do while marching haha

  • i played this song in high school, it got us a gold medal in the province, its very difficult but by far my favorite song.

  • great lick at 2:57

  • really good, but prefer xylo to vibes on this track.

also, in need of some more aux percussion. more congas!

  • very good.

  • I agree that it was a little too fast, and also about the soprano sax. I heard this performed at CMU earlier this year, and at the end, the drummer hit the bass drum, and it was a nice twist. Nice rendition of your own though. Sax section was very nice.

  • great!

  • its a little too fast

  • Their trombone section doesn't have that great of a sound. Not clear at all, and their bass bone needs to play clear and rip the shit out of those low notes.

  • There is contradiction in "play clear and rip the shit out of those low notes" also... their rhythm and notes were correct, it is possible that the poor recording conditions (outdoors with what looks like 1 mic) could be the cause of the bad sound... since you also hear it in the trumpets. (also located farther from the mic than the sax section.)

Being a trombone player, i just had to say something like this. No offense intended, just pointing out possibilities.

  • It is very possible to play clear and rip the crap out of those low notes. I guess it would be more appropriate for me to say that he should put more "meat" on the low notes. That would make more sense.

I play the Bass Trombone myself. And I don't take offense to it, I understand they were playing in bad conditions.

  • definitely hunting the wabbit to fast and bari sax squeak come on...

  • tooooooooooooooooooooo fast

  • That sax part was so friggin awesome, although the soprano sounded a bit squeaky

  • Amazing job, props on for you

  • the soprano might want to consider a rovner ligature, and then setting it on a darker settingm because of the fact that sopranoes already have an extremely bright tone.

  • omg, bones are completely beastly, very in character, some slight problems but for the most part, nailed the parts

  • trombones =GREAT! although, the soprano saxophone solo didnt really fit for me. perhaps its because im so used to the trombone solo opening up the solo section. and, being a tenor player, i really enjoyed the tenor solo. overall very good performance.

  • woah way fast

  • i love this song. good job guys sounded great

  • WOW!! i thought that was really good. only i dont relly like the vibes at times but it was really good!

  • Vibes need to be balanced more with the ensemble. Really great job on the tune guys.

  • (supposed to be a xylophone though, right?)

  • No vibes or xylophone in this ensemble. Perhaps you are hearing the keyboard?

  • well he is using a vibe patch on his keyboard

  • soprano solo doesnt sound right..

  • rushing like crazy. specially during the trombone soli

  • my jazz band played this song a few years ago at the oregon jazz festival and got in finals :D great song, nicely played

  • great job guys!

  • Dude....This is probably the best outside recording ever....The sound is RIGHT IN YOUR FACE =D That is one hell of a mic setup you guys had out there.

  • the trombone section did well, except on the soli in the beginning they rushed a tad... and the first trombone sounded like a french horn... or somewhat a mute

  • What a great idea to play outside.

  • goddamn this so is so badass

we're playing it in my high school jazz band right now

    buahaha

i'm going to play the marimba/synth part =P

    be jealous.

  • not a fan of the soprano solo instead of a trombone to start of the solo section. also don't know if it's just the recording or what but the lead trombone sounded good, just a little too mello for my taste for this piece.

  • That sounds just like the recording......Did you really play that?

  • It's absolutely real. This is a great group. I'm not a member, just a parent.

    Brian Casserly

  • @disneyFREAK242 Of course they played it. Did you see the trombone solo? I wish his microphone was on, I would have liked to hear him.

  • Soprano's tuning was kinda bad while he was soloing. Tenor player did really well, except for the band drowned him out. The band also drowned the slide player.
